We spent a night at Prested Hall to attend a friend's wedding nearby. The staff were friendly and efficient. Afternoon tea was to die for and breakfast excellent. Our room had fantastic views over the grounds and was probably the most comfortable and relaxing we have visited in the UK. What we appreciated most was that it wasn't a chain, had lots of character and felt like at home.

Stayed here for my best friends wedding, from the moment we arrived the staff were polite and very efficient. The Main banqueting room was clean, spacious and nicely decoatated for a old building. The food was very tasty and hot which is sometimes hard with large tables or people. The bar I thought was very reasonable for a JD & coke £3.10 and vodka & coke £3.15 but a large wine was £6 which is quiet expensive. The evening buffet had a great selection of food and was tasty too.

As quiet a few were staying we were allowed to stay drinking in the Lounge area which was great especially during the week.

We had the attic room which had two rooms in and was very cosy and clean. There was water, plenty of coffee, tea, hot chocolate and biscuits and the breakfast was very good too.

The blonde wedding co-ordinator was lovely and made the planning for my friend a lot easier. She is a credit to Prested Hall.

The only downfall that the venue needs to address would be the flooding at the front of the building, with one night of heavy rainfall the carpark flooded. But there was an announcement by a member of staff warning about what might happen. In the morning a gentlemen offered to retrieve the cars in water to save the guests getting wet, which was a nice gesture and made the problem no where near as bad.

We stayed as a couple for a night at Prested on Good Friday this year, after I had found it during research a couple of years ago and always wanted to stay there.

Our double was upgraded on arrival, therefore not only did we benefit from a very reasonable Good Friday overnight rate of DBB at £120 per room/couple, but also from upgraded facilities.

I cannot fault the accommodation - a suite with some nice original features, an extremely comfortable Kingsize bed and a large grand bathroom with an extra long bath. There was a good view of the grounds and river, ducks and geese, giving it an overall relaxed feel of the countryside.

Dinner was excellent, with three course choices in each category, and service of which involved excellent timing and a friendly approachable feel. The food was extremely well cooked and presented, delicious and of excellent quality. We had tea in the library, of which guests had use, and which was extremely relaxing, and the following morning's breakfast was superb, with an excellent range of both hot and cold food. I particularly appreciated the very fresh nuts which were part of the muesli on offer, and the poached egg accompanying the undyed smoked haddock was soft, and the coffee of a good quality.

Prested Hall's receptionist was one of the friendliest and most approachable I have ever encountered, and should be commended. The environment inside the hotel is beautiful, and extremely luxurious and comfortable, with masses of atmosphere and a really aged feel to it. It's a pretty impressive property, with a very comprehensive history which is covered in the guests' information book in each room. The bar and serving staff were all lovely, and the service impeccable without being too formal.

If I were to recommend any advances to this extremely high standard, I would add that perhaps lighting in the dining room during the evening be toned down to a more 'romantic' level, and the choice of television channels be upgraded to include Sky channels. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay, at a very affordable price, and I would highly recommend Prested Hall.

I was looking for a romantic venue for a night away and came across this hotel and, more specifically, 'The Dingle' which is a cottage for two set apart from the main hotel. The cottage is perfect for those that don't want to be disturbed. It is furnished to a high standard as you would expect.

The night we stayed, there wasn't a wedding being hosted so the restaurant and bar were nice a quiet with excellent service - not sure how a large wedding would affect this. The food was cooked perfectly. I can't comment on breakfast as we opted out.

I think we will definitely be returning at least once a year!

Room Tip: Pick 'The Dingle' if it is just you and your partner!

Delighted you had a good time here. Just to clarify, when we have a wedding, and we did over 100 last year, we don't have a restaurant because the Hall is always booked on an exclusive hire basis for day and night (all bedrooms included). Hence our restaurant is really more of a guests' dining room, though when we are open a few knowing locals do manage to find their way here.

Deputy Manager was extremely helpful in helping us locate our apartment in the separate building (health club) to the main house. Apartment (No. 24) located above the Gym was well appointed other than some minor refinements needed to update the old TV and digi box and the sunken seatee being past its best. Apartment had a unique vibration between the hours of 7.30 and 9.30 pm which was strange when you consider the infrequent foot massage you experience from the lounge floor (gym users using a specific piece of equipment). We were aware of this risk after viewing previous comments on this very helpful site - pre-armed. This was not a major issue for our family and it caused more amusement than anything else.

WiFi was great in the main lounge however I was not able to get a connection in the apartment or the smaller lounge down the metal stairs. Phone reception in the building was poor and we had to resort to calling people outside/in the car.

On the first day we were surprised by a closed response to our request about when we could use the indoor pool - only at weekends with children...? There was no effort made to accommodate us being a family of four staying the five days Mon-Fri when our children were off for the Easter Break ... maybe a more accommodating response might have left a better first impression of the facilities on Day 1. This was then compounded by no menu being available until about 1 hour prior to the evening meals being served so we couldn't make a decision to eat in and we therefore choose to make alternative arrangements were we could decide on the menu available.

On our last full day we decided to use the outside tennis courts - excellent facility and staff were very accommodating in providing rackets and balls. Again we decided to try to view the lunchtime menu and again it was not available until the chef arrived - can the Hotel afford to miss out on promoting the lunch and evening meals on such a regular basis? Anyway after a two hour tennis session in the morning we manage to see a glipse of the menu - excellent choice for all the family. I was bemuse by the inability of the chef to provide 2 x wedges/chips as a side order for our family although he does provide potatoes with one of the courses ... I was told it was a health club ... ? Surely, meeting the needs of clients and generating more income through food sales is important to the chef?

The last night (we stayed for a total of five nights) seemed to be slightly surprising when you consider £160/night ... room 21 below was playing loud music and partying until about 11pm (clearly heard in our lounge!). We could only assume from the comments mentioned before that this was from the staff letting their hair down a little.

Overall we had a nice stay - keep in mind the gym and party noises were not heard in the bedrooms otherwise we would have complained and requested for our family to be moved.

Set in gloriously beautiful grounds with a very long sweeping drive, Prested Hall has a calming atmosphere from the word go. "Old English" would best describe the decor and very comfortable it is with soft welcoming couches and plenty of small coffee type table to help you settle down - just like home. The food is very tasty and the staff very friendly and helpful.

We have just come back from an awat day at Prested Hall and we can't thank them enough. The staff were very helpful and attentive.

The room we booked was bright, airy and overlooked the grounds to the rear of the property. The food was excellent and plentiful.

We would definately use Prested Hall again. Thank you very much.
