“Wedding - 21 September 2013”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

We had our wedding at Prested Hall. The service was outstanding. Nothing was too much. The food was amazing and many of our guests commented on how nice the food was. A special thanks goes to Jill McGrath who was our wedding coordinator who was amazing and exceeds your expectations. The day ran extremely smoothly and I cannot recommend Prested Hall highly enough. Our day was perfect with the help of all the team at Prested Hall. We could not have asked for a better venue and service. Top quality all round.

my God-Daughter/Niece got married at Prested Hall Sunday 29th September and what a day it was. from start, 12 noon, to finish, 12 mid-night, the service and attention to detail by the staff was second to none. well run well staffed (not too many nor too few) fabulous location (for the outside ceremony), slept like a log for obvious reasons, then a well presented and nicely cooked breakfast. highly recommended for both an organised event or just to escape to for a day or two.

Main hotel is excellent although let down by the lack of on site restaurant during the week. However good choices in Messing or Kelvedon if you're prepared to drive out. The bistro, within the adjacent leisure complex, offers good food but with a limited choice. Staff very friendly and helpful. However the main let down was that the swimming pool is not available between 3 and 5 during the week when it's let to a swimming club. If you try to use the steam room you run the gauntlet of an extremely unpleasant instructress who will "dress you down" in front of her class. The hotel don't seem too bothered by this

Well it's quite true we are not spa hotel, and we hope we ve never claimed to be.
As a hotel we can offer free swimming and special rates to guests at the separately owned health club next door with double discounts on any beauty treatments.
Hotel Guests get the same opening times as club members, and these times are clearly posted on our website and in guests' bedrooms.
The club rents out the pool to a separate swimming school 3-5pm Monday-Friday and this is clearly indicated to hotel guests. It is hard to imagine a hotel guest being able to only swim in that time-window and we all think this interlude is reasonable. The steam and snua remain available through these times.
It was unfortunate that the lady who rents the pool for her classes misinterpreted this guests' actions, as she later accepted, but that is a sympton of today's paranoic madness, I'm afraid. She has been told to be more polite or she will lose her tenancy and we apologise for the incident. The hotel staff certainly do care guests have a good time, but could not control this lady's attitudes. Most reviews consistently talk of the caring, helpful staff.
As far as a restaurant is concerned, we do so many weddings that it is impossible to run a restaurant on the days in-between. We've rtied, over the yeas, and it just doesn't work.
However, the club is now trying, with a new head chef, to raise the bar to make their bistro better and with more choice - in fact we'd say the changes are already noticeable.

Stayed in Room 16 at Prested Hall which is an Attic Room.

I booked the room through booking.com and got a good price which included breakfast.

Room- Very modern, clean and comfortable with tea making facilities. Bed very comfortable, satellite tv reception very poor in the room, the times it was on it kept freezing!! The wi if was very poor as well in the room..

Grounds- very we'll kept, there was several rooms in the reception area open to the guests that you could sit in and enjoy your drink, we sat outside in the evening with our drinks overlooking the duck pond..

Gym- Free to use whilst at hotel, good choice of free weights, swimming pool, steam room and sauna. The menu in the spa was very good and reasonably priced.

Bistro- This was a lot to be desired, this let the hotel down, it appeared to be in the gym area and was not appealing at all. We had a car so we drove out to Colchester to eat.

Breakfast- Really good choice of cereals, fruit and cooked breakfast.

The staff were very friendly and overall I would stay at this hotel again.

My son got married there 6th September. There were some 150 guests. The staff were fantastic the venue was amazing both inside and out and the event organiser girl was first class and on the ball. The whole thing flowed easily with her help. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff including getting a couple of the more over refreshed members of our party to their room. The food was fine and the buffet later in the evening very tasty. The bar stayed open as long as it was required. I would recommend it to anyone.

We have recently held our wedding at this wonderful venue. When we were looking for wedding venues, Prested Hall was the first venue we looked at and fell in love with the place, we just knew it had to there! All the staff at Prested were really helpful thoughout all of the planning up to the big day! Any questions we had were answered, and nothing was too much! Our special day was just perfect in every way! I had my mind set on our ceremony being held outside, unfortunately all the rain from the day before had made the ground and just too wet for this to happen, I was a little disappointed but once Jill had shown me the room set up for the ceremony, it didn't bother me! Jill was such a BIG help throughout the whole day, anything we wanted, she helped in any way for it to happen, went beyond just being our events manager, everything went to time - thank you Jill! All of our guests that we had spoken to had said how lovely the venue was, and how well Jill did everything for everyone! The food was very scrumptious! Our day was more than what we had imagined it to be, thank you very much to everyone at Prested Hall, from Mr&Mrs Crowe

We recently attended a wedding at Prested hall which we had a wonderful day, the venue was pleasant but for the excessive amount of money spent on the day the accommodation was basic, dusty and the shower drainage was pretty poor to say the least. This put to one side our main complaint was the staff especially the rude bar staff (where there was only 2 people serving 90 guests). Our strongest comment is make sure you check your money when you hand it over and the amount of change you get back !!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bar prices where to say the least excessively high. There was no meet and greet by the staff to the wedding as originally told there would be. Ladies beware of the front entrance for your heels as it is lethal and note the ladies toilets are only on the 1st floor !!!
There is no disabled WC or Baby changing facilities except for the library floor !
Canapés where nice, main course was good but buffet was dry and overlooked.
Overall the wedding was a wonderful experience, shame about the venue.

This wedding was a bit of a nightmare with more than double the usual bar take and a small rather nasty element. The staff suffered undue rudeness from a drunken few and did their very best to remain cool and polite.
One man had to be carried back to his room, or one just like it!!
We have not had complaints of bar short changing in past 10 years and we know this allegation is scurrilous as staff are long term and utterly trusted. The bar was up only £2 in thousands, as keep the change tips.
The grooms father has tried to counter this and another negative review and the happy couple have promised to disown the comments when back from honeymoon..... Or so I'm told by the rather upset staff who have been in touch with them.
