We booked a last minute trip to Chiang Mai after our planned trip to Bali was foiled by the eruption of Mt. Agung. Our trip to Thailand exceeded any expectations we had and this is due in great part to Ian and Pop, our fantastic hosts of Mae Nai Gardens.

Our two bedroom/two bathroom villa had a beautiful view of neighboring farm land from the back porch as well as the salt water pool and sala tucked among the palm trees and other blooming bushes visible from the front porch. The kitchen was equipped with basic necessities that more than met our needs during our week long stay. The villa was clean and inviting and had ample room for a family of four on vacation.

Daily breakfasts of toast, jam, eggs, fruit, juice and tea/coffee prepared by Gailta were delicious and such a great way to start the day.

Pop and Ian were phenomenal hosts and went out of their way to recommend local attractions and arrange transportation with a gentleman named Mr. Cat, whom also picked us up from the airport. He was an incredibly safe driver and always seemed to be smiling. During our stay Ian and Pop helped arrange on-site massages and facials and introduced us to several nearby restaurants offering a delicious array of local cuisine.

Ian and Pop offer five star service and genuinely care about experiences their guests have while staying at Mae Nai Gardens. I would go back in a heart beat!

Huge thanks to Ian and Pop, and their Thai helpers, for an amazing few days in this tranquil garden setting with a refreshing saline pool and a piece of art at every turn. The villas are simply and thoughtfully designed and very comfortable, with a decent shower and welcome touches such as good bedside lamps for avid readers. We loved the generous breakfasts and the laid-back, hospitable approach, providing recommendations and help wherever needed. You are within easy reach of Chiang Mai, but the countryside itself in this area is beautiful, and there are plenty of places to enjoy eating, one or two within walking distance, though own transport is needed ideally, or a driver can be arranged. We'll definitely be back!

What an incredible place to stay! The photos don't do it justice. Mae Nai Gardens is stunning. Beautiful landscapes. Warm hosts. Peaceful retreat. Chic surroundings. True hospitality. I recently returned for my second visit after 7 years away. It was special the first time and the second visit was pure magic. Their location outside of the big city makes for an incredible stay. The landscape grounds are immaculate and display beautiful pieces of art. Each cottage is clean and serene with its own unique design. I loved sleeping with the windows open so the fresh air could drift in. What a treat to wake up surrounded my nature. You can tell that a lot of thought and care has gone into the design. The pool is fantastic. It is like an oasis. Once again, a lot of care has gone into creating this. I arrived solo for the first night. It was very handy having their driver pick me up at the airport so I could run errands, enjoy lunch at the nearby Four Seasons, then head to Mae Nai Gardens. My boyfriend arrived the next evening with a car otherwise I would have availed of their driver for the entire trip. That is an excellent option to have. Just ask Ian & Pop to arrange this ahead of time. There were lots of ways to fill my days... in fact, I wish we could've stayed longer. Guests can enjoy the rural landscape with a walk in the nearby rice fields, visit a beautiful temple, enjoy the Four Seasons rice terraced gardens for lunch/happy hour/dinner, lounge by the pool, or take the mountain bikes for a spin. There are some excellent restaurants in their vicinity too. I didn't expect such highly designed garden restaurants! One even had a proper river and waterfall. Just ask Pop for recommendations. Since Mae Nai only serves breakfast, be prepared to grab your own meals, but that is easy to do with your own car or the resort driver. Just plan ahead. You are in for a treat. Another great idea was booking a trekking day trip. We booked a private tour which picked us up and dropped us off after an exciting day of hiking to waterfalls, exploring gorgeous scenery, and bamboo rafting down a river. In the future, I believe Mae Nai Gardens will also offer hiking trips for their guests. That would be great as we would've gladly done more hiking especially around the Mae Rim area. Ian and Pop can also book a cooking class for you. That is next on my list as I have heard they are fantastic. Thank you again for a great stay! See you again soon.

My fiancé and I had an outstanding experience at Mae Nai Gardens! The service was tremendous as the owners Pop and Ian treated us like family. They couldn’t have been nicer or more welcoming. They provided us with a private mountain biking adventure, assisted with transportation which included delivery of a motor bike, and provided timely turnaround of our laundry. From an economical standpoint, Mae Nai Gardens was a great value.

Beyond the incredible service and beauty of the property we very much enjoyed the Mae Rim area. It is a very peaceful area and yet close enough to get to the center of Chiang Mai via a relatively short taxi ride. Many of the adventure type of excursions are actually closer to Mae Rim than Chiang Mai city. The Chiang Mai region is very well known for temples and while we enjoyed the famous temples of Chiang Mai we preferred stumbling into a local ancient temple in Mae Rim which we were able to explore with zero tourists.

If you’re looking for a peaceful, private place to relax and rejuvenate with relatively close proximity to Chiang Mai, then Mae Nai Gardens is the place for you. The private villas, lush manicured gardens and salt water pool made the hotel very unique. The property is walking distance from world class views of mountains and rice patties.

Thank you for your wonderful review! We were very happy to know that you enjoyed staying with us at Mae Nai Gardens, and glad to hear that we are getting things right. We also enjoyed your visit - one of the great things about being a small resort is that we can offer a much more personal service for our guests.
We have had our annual closure from April to June, but will be back in business at the end of June, so looking forward to an exciting new season.

Stayed here for a couple of nights and had the absolute pleasure to meet the owners, Ian and Pop. Made to feel so welcome, great experience and sad to move on at the end of our short stay.

This place is set in a really quiet neighborhood. If you like to be a little off the beaten track but have transport it's a great option. Having said that, our hosts helped us find the most amazing restaurant just a 15 minute walk from our room. 100% authentic northern Thai cuisine, absolutely superb! So although the place is a little secluded you can find a few shops and food on foot if you don't fancy driving at night. Just ask for guidance.

The room we had was simple but very spacious, clean and with a good shower. Breakfasts up at the main house were excellent and a great opportunity to chat with Ian, who was full of helpful information on local attractions and genuinely interested in his guests. You can tell when someone takes pride in something and conversation was always easy. I would also add that for somewhere fairly secluded, the free wifi was excellent!

The pool at Mae Nai Gardens is a real highlight and so refreshing after a day spent in nearby Chiang Mai shopping. Especially if you have a slightly bored 3 year old who needs entertaining.

Can't recommend this place highly enough if you want to be somewhere a little quieter and authentic. If I were to run a guest house/small resort this is how I would do it!

Thank you so much for your great review, Sean. It is so pleasing to know that you all enjoyed your visit so much.
I particularly like that you capture the reality of our place so well - we aim to make our guests happy, but we try to make clear that we are not a regular city hotel.
We hope to see you again in the future, and wish you well with your change of island!
