I stayed 3 nights with my 2 children and everything was perfect.
The rooms are big, very clean and charmy.
The garden is maybe the best part of all, also with games for children.
The personal was really kind and they made for us a special offer, very appreciated.
Thank you.

We were invited to a wedding do at De Sfeerstal and had a great time. For starters the staff were very friendly and helpful. The evening meal was buffet style and very tasty indeed: lovely salads, salmon, shrimps, traditional (raw) herring, Indonesian style chicken sate, Duchess potatoes and a large succulent ham on the bone, among others. The large garden was excellent for taking photographs of the wedding party and the big trampoline, swings and see-saw were great amusement for children (and adults alike!). We didn't stay overnight, but I wouldn't hesitate doing so on a next occasion, based on this experience.

This place isn't for everyone, but for people who like quiet countryside inns it would be great. It really is in the countryside, surrounded by a golf course. The town of Nieuwveen is about 1 km away. A good map or a good GPS system is very helpful in finding it. The driver has to be alert, since the sign at the turnoff in the town of Nieuwveen isn't very obvious.

Gardeners will really love this place, because their perennial gardens are amazing. They also have qute extensive vegetable gardens. The two very friendly resident white ducks were an interesting bonus.

The rooms themselves are quite large and comfortable. This isn't a luxury hotel (the prices reflect that), but the rooms are clean and well-furnished with what appear to be antiques. They seem to be soundproof as well, since everything was very quiet.

This probably would be a good hotel for families with kids, since there is a playground and a lot of room to run around. Very young children would have to be watched to make sure they don't get too close to the canal next to the property, however.

The breakfast, as usual in Holland, was extensive and very good. Many of their breakfast items appear to be locally made (jams, buns, breads, etc).

The only negative for me was the bathroom, which had a musty smell. This wasn't a problem in my travel companion's room, so it probably is unique to my room. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, there aren't many options for supper in the area. There is a snack bar in Nieuwveen that was to open soon when we were there, so that may now be one option. Other than that, plan on driving somewhere or on having a picnic supper. There is a fairly large grocery store and an excellent bakery in Nieuwveen, if you want to buy supplies there.

The hotel was in a good location for day trips to the Aalsmeer flower market and Den Haag.

All in all, I would return.

We only stayed two nights at de Sfeerstal, but all agreed it was our favorite place during our 11 day trip. It is run by a family and great staff. Although it had been several months since they had any english speaking guests, there was no language barrier for everything we needed. The room had plenty of space for the three of us. It was quiet with comfy beds and clean ensuite bathroom. The grounds are very relaxing and beautiful. There is a charming restaurant with a tasty and filling breakfast and very reasonable prices for lunch. There is a bar for after hours access to coffee, tea, and an "honor system" for the local beer on tap and a refrigerator full of soda, juice, and wine. The location is great for walking or biking through beautiful countryside. It was a quick 15 minutes to the train station and easy ride into Amsterdam and only 25 minutes to the windmills at Kinderdijk. The only downside to this B&B is that you do need a car (or bike) to reach the location. It is not on a bus/train route.

Room Tip: I booked through the Groene Hart website .nl
