“Glorified caravan”
Reviewed 11 January 2014 via mobile

Friends and I have just got back from a Monday to Friday break at this place. Having booked through Hoseason's on a number of occasions we expected a bit of a standard. We arrived at the reception which is unmanned and was greeted by Amy who was very pleasant, she advised of the basics of the stay and pointed to our log cabin ash. Once we walked in our immediate thought was this is a caravan with wood on the side and a laminate floor to make it look something more. The ceiling was most definite a caravans. Never the less we got on with unpacking as the setting of the park was ideal for the dogs. The bedrooms were very small and the corridor between the bedrooms and bathroom were not big enough for more than one at once. Our first night we couldn't work the cooker out as the markings had faded and once we had finally eaten we couldn't empty the dirty water in the sink as it was blocked. We had to take the u Bend off and it was full of grease and fat! The cabin was of a very low standard and not the cleanest, we expected a dip in standard from our previous holidays as this one allowed the dogs but still expected better than this. The next day we went in the hot tub and that's when the lodge was confirmed as a caravan as we noticed a wheel underneath. I called hoseasons and complained about being Mis-sold this accommodation, they contacted the site owners who offered to move us to a superior cabin. We did move to a elite cabin and it was a lot nicer! This cabin are the pictures hoseason show on their website and what we were expecting. We moved over to the new cabin that night and started our break again. Although we did have issues with this cooker being extremely noisy whilst in use. I would advise anyone reading this before booking here to think long and hard their is nicer sites in the same area for £10-15 more.

Good Morning James,
Thank you for your comments, I am very sorry to hear that the cabin did not match up to your expectations. Firstly I would like you to know that we have a new cooker here waiting to be installed into the Ash lodge, we have replaced a couple of the cookers in the other 'Athelington Lodges' and this is definitely the next one to go in. With regards to the u-bend, as I am sure you can understand that these do not get pulled off and cleaned every week but on a monthly schedule. I am very sorry that it was blocked on your stay but am now aware that these need to be checked on a more regular basis.
With regards to the wheel, most lodges will have a wheel underneath to transport them between the factory and trailer to which they are then delivered to onsite and which helps to then put them into place.
I am glad that you were able to move over to our Elite collection of lodges and start over your holiday again.
Kind Regards,

we stopped at the lodge with our 2 dogs between christmas for a few nights away , we booked this for the walking and the jacuzzi, on arrival we found out the jacuzzi was broken, the owner tried to fix it but coud not get a part, we was given keys to another one of the lodges across the site but this lodge was not allowed dogs so we had to leave them in the log cabin while we went in the jacuzzi for a short time and as it was a way in the cold we only actually bothered once.as it wasnt too pleasant walking across a field in the middle of winter in wet clothes ( other alternative was to take all of our clothes ) seems abit of a chore.

we was told we would be re-compensated for the broken hot tub, but i guess the owner felt that giving us keys to another lodge was suffice ( not in our eyes )

apart from that the actual place was really nice if you fancy a get away in the middle of no where. make sure to go shopping before you go

was a real shame as sort of ruined our trip a little

Room Tip: if you have no pets then upgrade to the luxury cabins, they are very nice

We had two original cabins over the Christmas period and I would recommend anyone to do this. The place is in the middle of nowhere but if you want a relaxing break then this is your place to go. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hot tubs are fab. Kids really enjoyed the trampoline and games room too.

Thinking of going back in the elite cabins next year. Thanks for a great time away.

just got back from a weekend break Athelingtonin Hall we had Beech cabin with a hot tub, the cabin was spotlessly clean flat screen tv fully equipped kitchen, white crisp bed linen and fresh towels all supplied too, beautiful country side views all round. We took our dog to and he was also made to feel very welcome a very dog friendly site with good walks in open fields. The farm shop offers fresh sausage bacon and eggs and the owners are very friendly as are their dogs too. I would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone who is looking for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of a busy home life , Suffolk is a beautiful county, Great pubs to and the coast is not to far away.

Visited in March and recommended this to our parents who has an equally relaxing time. If you are looking for a quiet break this place is perfect. The lodge is very clean and has all the equipment needed to make some meals and stay in. The hot tub is wonderful and very private. The farm have their own produce - I recommend the eggs. We have re booked and can't wait to go again.

I booked Athelington Hall after reading all the great reviews already written!!! As a couple looking for a break from the every day norm its perfect.
Having already had a stay in Norfolk a few months back we fancied Suffolk and to use this as a base for exploring.
Was greeted bt Amy , very friendly and knew her stuff :)
Booked in to Cedar lodge 6, It has a outside hot tub with garden furniture, this is great with the sun rise just in the right place for sun all afternoon.
Lodge was lovely and clean, came with all you need.
A sauna , shower & corner bath all lovely.
Bedroom with a four poster bed, plenty of storage.
Hair dryer,iron, ironing board too.
We took trips out, Ipswich is nice, parking pricy.
Great Yarmouth was lovely , plenty to do.
Definately needed the sat nav for getting about.
Overall a perfect break. Thank you!!!

Room Tip: Always worth having a hot tub!!!

To celebrate my wife's birthday we chose Athelington Hall as we've got a bit blasé about faceless hotels with almost identical rooms and décor. We liked the idea of the lodges and away from the bustle of city centres.
Athelington is certainly that, we only found it as our sat nav guided us to the entrance and we were met by the very friendly farm owners daughter, who has taken over the running of the lodges. We were shown the facilities, which truthfully are rather basic, and weren't used during our stay. We had one of the original Lodges on the edge of the main field. The photos of the site seem to indicate that the lodges are fairly close to each other but, unlike some other caravan parks we've stayed in there is plenty of space around them and a huge football field sized open space in front.
Our lodge interior was very reminiscent of caravans but it is certainly larger with a lounge with 2 settees (one of which can open to sleep 2 people) Nice modern widescreen TV and gas fire for the chillier evenings. The lodge has full central heating if required. There is ample seating round the table and the kitchen has all the basic amenities one needs, apart from food, of course.
2 bedrooms and a full sized bathroom complement the rest of the facilities. In our lodge , one bedroom was a double with on-suite shower and the other was smaller with 2 single beds.

Later on we had a look at one of the Elite lodges and they are certainly much more current and luxurious. Well worth the extra for them.
All of the lodges had a hot tub outside on the patio area and they are kept on at all times so no having to wait for ages for them to warm up.

In the reception is a book of menus from local pubs and restaurants. We booked at one from my wife's birthday evening meal and found that it was a typical country pub with a small but select menu and the food was delicious. I couldn't finish mine as it was so big. There were only a couple of diners in there as it was midweek but we had a good chat with the staff.

Time to leave and we came to the first problem. Because you are so far out of any towns, my sat nav couldn't get a fix on the maps so we had to drive back, trying to remember which way we'd come. needless to say we got lost but eventually found our way back.

All of the lodges have good wi-fi signals so leaving the site to find somewhere was easy but the return could be problematical so we learnt to drive to a town near where we were to get a signal that would allow the maps to be downloaded. We did defer to using a local map of Suffolk for much of the navigation.

The lodge was a good stepping off point to visit such places as Aldeburgh, Sutton Hoo, Ipswich, Norwich , etc. and we were reluctant to leave at the end of our stay.

Room Tip: The larger Elite cabins are ideal for that extra bit of luxury
