Having eaten at The Cat in the past, and subsequently read a review in the Telegraph saying it had changed hands, we decided on an overnight stay one Saturday night. Travelling with my OAP mum we stayed in rooms 3 and 4 which I think are the smallest two rooms, but both perfectly nice and not expensive.

The food at supper was fantastic - very superior pub food. Beautifully presented by very pleasant and efficient staff. Breakfast excellent too.

We would certainly return as it was one of those overnight stays that felt more like a weekend away.

Decided to lunch at The Cat en route to a nearby garden. Very glad we did! We have eaten here many times over the years but not recently. We had a light lunch - I had a delicious pork and apricot terrine and my husband had the charcuterie platter. We shared both, with some excellent chips, and really enjoyed our meal. The local cider was really good, too. Friendly, helpful staff as always - nothing too much trouble. We were brought a bottle of chilled water and plenty of ice. Coffee afterwards was very good too.
Toilets scrupulously clean; there are disabled facilities and a patio seating area outside surrounded by plants.
This is a place to linger - it feels very relaxed and the food is always great. Can't wait to return!

After searching the internet and checking on trip advisor we booked The Cat Inn for a one night stay on Friday 1st August 2014. We booked room 4 which was the only room available for our stay. It is a little on the small size however very comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was lovely with an excellent shower. The little extras in the room were very welcome especially the bath robes which we thought was a lovely touch. We eat in the restaurant, the choice on the menu was very good and so was the food. Breakfast was excellent and well laid out. The Cat Inn is classed as a pub with rooms, but it is much more, the rooms, food and service from the staff were excellent, what more could you want from a short break we will definitely be going back.

Stopped off here for dinner after attending a race meeting in sussex. Even at 7pm the restaurant was reasonably full. We received over a warm welcome and were seated at a lovely table with dappled sunlight flooding in through the window. Prefer this side to the garden area. There was something on the menu for everyone, and the food was excellent. Service courteous and quick. If I had to pick a negative I would say the garden is nothing special. But perhaps with more stylish furnishings, candles and music, that too could be as appealing as the indoor restaurant. All in all a safe bet for a good meal.

The Cat is a fantastic village pub with a few excellent rooms. We stayed there again recently went to went to Glyndebourne. Although we did not have dinner on this occasion, we did enjoy a fantastic breakfast cooked by the owner Andrew Russell. This food is in keeping with the rest available. Overall a great experience and tremendous value for money.

My wife and I stayed at The Cat on a Saturday on a B&B basis and ate dinner there too. The Cat is a quintessential village pub, with an excellent atmosphere. Our room was faultless and we enjoyed a great nights' sleep. The staff are very friendly and provide just the right amount of attention and service. And breakfast was a great way to round up a lovely stay.

Room Tip: We had Room 1 which was spacious.
