“Very disappointing Christmas meal”
Reviewed 23 December 2012

We chose the Folly for our office Christmas party after enjoying many excellent meals there over the years. We paid a deposit and selected our meals in advance of the day. When the food arrived it was just luke warm and the vegetables were already on the plate instead of in serving dishes. The roast potatoes had been reheated and were leathery and the sprouts were soggy. Not an enjoyable experience!

“good value”
Reviewed 14 December 2012

Once again when catching up with family on the IOW, we met up at "The Folly" for lunch.
Having used this riverside pub restaurant on and off for years, we expected not to be let down, and we were not. We do however perhaps avoid really busy times.
The welcome was warm, with intelligent and friendly staff. It appeared to be running just about half full capacity on a mid week lunchtime, service was very quick, although this might not have been quite the case if the large xmas party table had not already reached the sweet course.
The lunch special is excellent value for money and not at all disappointing for "pub food".
The beers are good too.
Nice location, old world rustic pub charm, but it can get busy.
Well worth finding as it is off the beaten track, and well worth coming again.

“Unfortunately disappointing”
Reviewed 9 December 2012

A large group of 34 booked here for our christmas meal, we selected our food in advance from their christmas menu. We arrived by boat for our 12.30pm booking and left 2 hours later having not received our desserts, as we could not wait any longer (we wanted to get back to our marinas before it went dark). The service was very poor and when we asked how much longer our desserts would be, we kept being told that there was only 1 man preparing them and that they were coming in a minute (for 25 minutes). We told management before we left that we had not received them and when they checked they said they were coming and if we could not wait they would put them in takeaway boxes (in a boat for 75 minutes and windy), they could not seem to grasp that 2 hours was too long to serve 2 courses and the excuse given was "once they get behind its hard to catch up"!! We have used the Folly many, many times and don't understand why this was way below their normal standard and not seeming to care! All the other customers who had not pre-booked got served well ahead of us, were we "captive" dinners?

“WHAT A VIEW”
Reviewed 5 December 2012

Great place to visit particularly at sunset or for a walk by the river. Enjoy the sights of the river Medina from the comfort of the pub. Good selection of food and very promptly served. Book at busy times to make sure you get a seat!
