“Wonderful anniversary Treat”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

I booked this hotel for my husband and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We stayed for two nights and had a great time. The hotel is very impressive and the grounds are well kept. We had a superior room which was nicely decorated and had everything you'd expected from a good hotel (only one problem, no clock in the room). From breakfast, cream tea to evening meal, everything was great. ALL the staff were extremely friendly and could not do enough for you. We spend a whole day in stratford-upon-avon and found it easy to get to from the hotel. We drove and it takes about 20minutes and there is ample car parking in town. The weather was hot so we walked around town and there was a band playing in the square. We also did the avon boat trip which was ok. All in all our trip to Ettington was excellent and we hope to return one day.

Well, where to start ! !
This was a 50th birthday treat for my wife, and we could not have wished for a more beautiful place to stay. From getting there a young chap on reception rushed out to carry our luggage upto our room No1, this is up 2 small flights of stairs straight ahead from reception. It has a large flat screen tv, air con, mini fridge, very large bed, coffee, tea making facilities, hairdryer, large wardrobes, area to sit and relax or read, and a very beautiful bathroom.
My advice is to ask for the older part of the hotel, the original building, as it's better.

The grounds are amazing to walk around OR they have cycles you can borrow, We walked down to the area at the side of the hotel which has several table & chairs with large parasol's if required, and one could not ask for a more relaxing place to have a glass of wine or a G & T.
Opposite this area is an 11th century remains of the church, and inside is the family chapel, to enter you need to ask someone to open it for you but these people who work in this hotel are amazing, I've NEVER. . . . EVER . . stayed anywhere, were every single member of staff could not do enough to make your stay a pleasant event.

People to look out for, Aaron in the bar, what a pleasant young man and what ever cocktail you desire he's made it. A chap called Pawol (hope the spelling is correct) looked after us in the dining area, and nothing was to much for him.
But most of all ask for a tour of the place by a young man called Damon ( again hope spelling is correct) This chap know's everything about this place, the history of the rooms, the ghost which walk in which area's (yes it is the most haunted place in the UK) honestly this young man is amazing to be with, his knowledge of the house and sheer emotion of the house is something to behold.

The breakfasts are really good, either full English or continental, or kippers m m m m
drinks are a little on the high side but only 2 weeks ago we stayed at the Hilton in B/Ham and they were FAR more expensive there, and I can assure you for sheer beauty they can't be compared.

The evening meals ! ! !
Well, my wife say's the food was amazing and I have to agree, a minor hick-up with the meal on the evening of my wife's birthday, was sorted amicably.

Now, since I started leaving feedback on here I've always been truthful, either good or bad so if I was to give some feedback to the hotel it would be this.
1 . . . .On the afternoon when we went for a glass of wine outdoors, the gravel was littered (really badly) with cigerette ends and was not a prety sight, however I did mention this and that evening we seen staff out with rakes cleaning the area.
2 . . . The door on room 1, please sand and paint the large area in the middle where the paints been chipped off, you can't miss it, its BIG.
3 . . . The shower, why not get one of those steam cleaners and clean the grout ? It really would make a difference.

yes I know it sounds like nit-picking but those little things make a difference.

But if I was to mark the whole experience out of 100 we'de give it 99.7%

Room Tip: Well we staeyed in room 1 and as you can see from the pic's it has the largest bathroom I've...

What a fabulous place! The location and the building of the hotel immediately set the scene for a memorable stay. This was a night's stay to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary, (a double celebration along with our Best Man and his wife). We were given a friendly welcome and settled into our rooms.
We were only able to make this an overnighter, so the four of us were keen to make the most of the facilities and quickly went down to the pool. This is very nicely laid out with a shower, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna at poolside, and is clean, light and airy. Plenty of clean fluffy towels are conveniently available at poolside and in the changing rooms, so you don't need to worry about using the room ones.

We then enjoyed pre-dinner drinks on the terrace, and a 3 course meal in the restaurant followed by coffee and petit-fours in the lounge - all the settings were impressive, as was the food and drink.

Our double bed was absolutely huge and incredibly comfortable, so we were well rested and able to fit in another swim and sauna before an excellent breakfast and a final walk around the grounds before we left.

It's difficult to fault anything - service was excellent - and there seemed to be a confidence in roles and knowledge. We also appreciated the request that tips be saved to the end of the stay and that they were to be shared equally amongst the staff.

Only tiny quibble is that the decor in the room was essentially grey, which is probably very fashionable but seemed a bit austere, however the room was well appointed and very comfortable and spotless, as was the bathroom.

This hotel is definitely well above our usual price bracket, but we heartily recommend this if you are in the mood for a special celebration.

Room Tip: If you can, have a suite, especially if its a special occasion. Having said this, all of the rooms a...

For a birthday present last October I was given a voucher for Afternoon Tea for two at the hotel and I have only just got around to using it.

This hotel is a haven of serenity to begin with and the staff made us feel very welcome. As it was probably the hottest day of the year we were offered iced drinks before our set tea arrived. Nicely displayed on oblong slates, there were eight small, oblong sandwiches and a large amount of cakes and scones with jam and cream, which we exchanged for butter. English Breakfast tea completed our order.

It was all delicious, but you do not have a choice and our preference would have been for more savouries than cakes: perhaps small savoury scones, cheese straws or similar. The sweet scones were huge and a little dry, other wise it was all beautifully presented and we could have sat there all afternoon and not asked to move.
We could not eat everything and were provided with a doggy bag to take the remainder home. An original birthday gift and I shall look forward to going again.

My husband and I stayed on Saturday night to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and well kept. From start to finish the service is spot on, everyone is so friendly and polite.

We stayed in the newer part of the hotel and I would say the walls are a bit thin so a bit noisy but that was the only downside to our stay.

The restaurant is lovely, we had a great meal and want to make special mention of Adam who took time to talk to us about the history of the building and its ghosts!

Also want to mention Aaron on the bar, we ended up staying up later than planned as was having such a great conversation with him!

Will definately be returning as we didn't get chance to check out the spa, so a good reason to go back!!

Fine example of a hand picked hotel.
