“Lovely setting, good service and food”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

I stayed at this hotel on business which was good value on their 24h delegate package, it's got great character and architecture and many original features. I didn't get much time to see the grounds but they look lovely and you are treated to the sight of deer on the lawns each morning. The staff were very efficient & couteous and the food good quality. Watch the cost of drinks in the bar - a large JW whisky cost £28! so just check the price list first. I was lucky to have an upgrade to the Garden Suite and this was suitably impressive. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: The grounds are lovely so ask for a room with a nice view of them.

I recently had the pleasure of attending a wedding hosted at Ettington Park Hotel. As guests of the wedding, approximately 20 of us flew from Australia to share this very special day with two friends. This venue was something magical - the grounds were breathtaking, the building incredible and the service provided by staff impeccable. Of particular note was David - one of the staff who was so very helpful with any request / enquiry we had and did so with such enthusiasm and professionalism! He was always there in the foyer with a smile to welcome us ! He really knows how to provide good customer service! Overall, a great holiday experience!

Room Tip: We travelled in a group of three - we stayed in a family room and we readily accommodated !

I would have loved to have given a 5 star review, but that would not be fair on the hotels that I have given 5 stars to. First of all, this hotel is in a fantastic setting in the English Countryside and is a beautiful building. I attended a meeting with some colleagues which we held in the library - fantastic room. After the meeting I checked in and that is where the star was lost. I wad made to feel very welcome, but when I asked about wifi I was told that the service was down as was most of the midlands - er.... I don't think so! I'm not sure what the internet issue was, but it was still not working the next morning either and in this day and age that is very frustrating. However, we had dinner that evening and I must congratulate the chef and the waitresses for superb food and excellent service. The wine was excellent too! Room was very comfortable and very nice bathroom. I'll be back when I get the chance.

Room Tip: It's a very old building with creaky floors and lord of character, my room was great and none of...

Thank you for completing your review and the comments you have made, I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. With regard to the internet, this in fact is the truth as the provider called the hotel to inform us of the situation. The iinternet was up and running the following day as you may be aware. I do hope that this will not deter you from staying with us again in the future and we very much look forward to welcoming you back. Kind regards

The hotel looks awesome when you arrive, in a beautiful historic building and gorgeous grounds. Bedrooms are beautifully decorated and are a good balance between contemporary and traditional, and there is a lovely pool and spa area. It is the perfect environment if you feel like a real treat.

Whether or not you enjoy a trip to Ettington will very much depend on how you plan to use the experience. The actual place is amazing, the only 'spoiler' is that in some areas the hotel it is unashamedly a large corporate on the up-sell once you arrive.

The service, for the most part, is good but a couple of areas let it down. We were offered afternoon tea, drinks, papers which is all well and good, however all of these things had to be paid for. As as we didn't want to buy any of them we ended up feeling a little embarrassed, which shouldn't be part of a treat weekend. In the restaurant the service wasn't quite what we had expected either, it was a bit of a let down when the wine we ordered with dinner arrived about 20 minutes after the food.

Thank you for completing your review and the comments you have made, we are pleased to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay with us. Please be assured that whilst we offer afternoon tea, drinks and papers we would not like any of guests to feel pressured into purchasing these items, and I would like to extend my apologies that you felt embarrassed. I have investigated the delay in receiving your wine, the wine you had ordered required more chilling I apologise that this was not mentioned to you at time. I would be more than happy to discuss this with you further should you wish to contact me. However, I do hope that this will not deter you from staying with us again in the future. Kind regards

Was bought an afternoon Tea gift and booked the experience on my husbands birthday so we could all enjoy. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds are amazing. The staff where helpful and afternoon tea arrived quickly. We had a good selection of goodies for tea and the gift was for two but we took our son with us and asked the waiter if we needed to order more food but he said there would be enough for us all to enjoy. He was right and like the fact that he was honest and didn't try to get another order which we would of had to pay for!

Room Tip: recommend afternoon tea, lovely!

Just returned from a 1 night stay at this lovely hotel which is set in beautiful Shakespeare country.

The room was nicely furnished with a very large and comfortable bed and the bathroom was spacious and clean with a good shower and plenty of quality toiletries and towelling bathrobes provided.

Top marks for the 'proper' (quick boiling) kettle and good range of quality teas, coffee, drinking choc and country biscuits - AND a small bottle of fresh semi skimmed milk in the fridge and complimentary bottles of mineral water too!

The only small critisism is the unnecessarily complicated room lighting controls which were very frustrating and hidden away on the wall.

The indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were all very well maintained and there were plenty of soft towels available.

Dinner was good although the portions were small on both the starters and main courses (3 only) scallops were served on a soggy vegetable base which we couldn't identify and was left uneaten although the rest of the dish was tasty. The service was very good and the staff were engaging and friendly. There was a good choice of wines and the Graham Beck sparkling white was crisp and very dry, just how we like it.

Breakfast - again good quality ingredients (except perhaps for the tinned button mushrooms) but not very generous portions. They had no brown sauce as they'd 'missed the delivery' (well, send someone to buy some). Real tea (leaves) in a nice pot was a good point.

In summary: the location, hotel, grounds and out-buildings are fabulous. The room was very comfortable and the staff courteous and friendly. The pool and facilities are excellent. The food is good (but could be improved) but the portions are on the small side. Overall though, good value and recommended for a short break.

Room Tip: Go for an upstairs side room, overlooking the grounds and old chapel for a great view.

We stayed for the one night at Ettington Park Hotel a couple of weeks back. The sense of having ‘arrived’ as we drove up the drive-way to the hotel was rather special.

The building is impressive and imposing on the outside; the grounds around the hotel is beautifully kept and there are bicycles which you can use to explore the grounds, though the child bike for my 8 year old was a bit big. The inside was disappointing; it looks a bit dated, with 70s/80s dark carpeting and wood. The main sitting room looks okay but again…looks dated in some part and confusing seating arrangements.

We ordered some sandwiches, which were average…but pricy. With that in mind and a peek at the dark décor of the dining room we cancelled the dinner of our stay package and went to the Bell down the road (2mins drive) for dinner…best pub grub I have had in a very, very long time.

Our room were okay, the bathroom was nicely done, clean…as was the rest of the suite but again, that dated look and feel to it.

The staffs were very pleasant, friendly and accommodating…just that I was expecting a lot more from the appearance on the outside which was fabulous. Ettington Park could be very special if some investment was put into the interior…as they had with the swimming pool in the basement, which was a little gem; we really enjoyed our 1hr swim in the very, very warm swimming pool and use of the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

Given its current condition…pricy and average, hoping to visit it when it is pricy but outstanding…which it could easily be.
