“Backpacking in Uganda”

I stayed at the Campsite for about a month and I found the owner, John Bosco, extremely accommodating. All the proceeds from the campsite help support orphaned children in the nearby Nkuruba orphanage. The campsite could not be more perfectly located; on a forested rim of a volcanic crater overlooking the dense forest of Kibale National Park and the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountain range.

The staff are archetypal Ugandans; friendly, polite and enthusiastic to meet you. John Bosco also was kind enough to drive us to Queen Elisabeth National Park for a beautiful river safari. It was an 8 hour round trip and all he asked in return was the price of petrol and a very cheap admission ticket.

While we were there, the campsite organised guided tours and activities that included swimming in the nearby lake, chimpanzee tracking in the Kibale Forest National Park, hiking to the Muhoma Waterfalls, visits to villages and tours of the tea estates. We also met some bird-watching enthusiasts who were travelling to the nearby Semliki National Park,
