On arriving at the property it seemed very lovely and set out nicely. We had dinner in the Bistro which was really nice and very pleasant. We were staying in the spa suite and the room was magnificent, beautiful large bathroom and lovely bedroom in a Victorian theme. Breakfast the following morning was a little light on, not much to choose from, and the cooked options where very slow. You would have thought there would have been a bigger fruit platter (it was only large enough for 3 people and it was there for the entire restaurant) A few home baked muffins and some muesli cereal and toast. Would have expected pastries, cheeses, cold cut meats, croissants etc. The service was pleasant but not very refined. (Waiter had buttons undone and his stomach protruding through his shirt) First breakfast we tried the Estate Special (Spanish Eggs) We love this dish at cafes and make it ourselves at home. It wasn't made from slow cooked capsicum and tomatoes like you would expect but the raw ingredients where placed in the bowl and baked. This left a very watery tomato capsicum and egg dish which we didn't finish. Dinner on the Saturday night was in their Fine Dining restaurant. The degustation meal was fabulous enjoyed every part of it, but the wine was a huge let down. We paid for the "matched wines" with every course, but no one will ever know how they were matched. The waitress came up with each glass announcing the variety and walking away! No bottle showing, no region, no wine maker, no climate it was grown in. After the 3rd glass we asked for the bottle. It was a clean skin labelled with Woodman Estate, and nothing about the wine at all. Not even tasting notes. She told us they get to taste them but don't know anything about them or where they come from. When you pay $100 a couple for matched wines, that's definitely not good. You don't pay for a glass of wine, you pay for the experience and would like to be "romanced" in the history of where your glass has come from. Back to the room, in the spa house the music was playing loudly and we phoned reception to have it turned down. The lady was quite rude to my husband and followed it up by slamming the doors on her way out. The bed had lovely linen but our backs in the morning were really sore. That's surprising being we never normally have that issue. I checked the date of the property and the beds were probably nearing 8 years so it may be due for a mattress change. They were very creaky.

In the morning on the way back to breakfast we meandered through some lovely gardens and lawns. The pathway that led to the house unfortunately took you to the rubbish bins and rubble, again could be such a better experience with some thought about their guests. We tried to get into the house via the lake door (where the spa house path finished) and saw staff walking past ignoring us. So we walked around the entire property to the front door. Again, not a huge deal, but it just didn't have that "you are our guest" feeling.

Breakfast the following morning we tried the traditional E&B breakfast which was much better. But the music started to really grate on me. It had been the same CD from Friday night dinner, Sat breakfast, Sat Dinner and now Sunday Breakfast! And it was a Tina Arena style so big voices over and over and over again….. Definitely needed an update or shuffle player!

On checking out we weren't asked about our stay and the payment was made. This place is structurally beautiful, which a little refinement, replacement, and cleanup it could make a beautiful stay. If I had been paying $500 for the weekend, I would have not complained, but to layout $1500 it wasn't really worth the money.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

We are sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. We understand the importance of value and hear your comments. It is not often that we receive negative feedback, but when we do we take it seriously. If you would like to provide contact details directly to me, I am happy to discuss.

More broadly, we have organised a front of house staff training session to refresh our team about some of the important operational aspects regarding our estate. This is in addition to the regular coaching and discussion that takes place in our work place amongst our team.

Thanks again for taking the time to write to us. We are delighted you enjoyed your degustation meal and hope that you will consider staying with us again at some future.

Best regards,

Rick

What a lovely place to stay. Beautiful surrounding countryside and nothing more relaxing than sitting next to the lake with a glass of wine or if you feel more energetic take the boat out and have a row on the lake. What can you say about the food? I don't think have a eaten food this good for a long time. The standards set are high and this is reflected on the service you receive.

The Manor House looks like a very old and long established country manor but is a relatively new converted very large family home on a grand scale and set in beautiful grounds. The even newer Spa House contains accommodation and the on-site spa. All facilities are of a very high standard, well maintained and very comfortable. Our dinner was a multi course set meal with wines. The food was exceptionally good - varied and interesting and the wines pleasant but not outstanding. Small serves were appreciated with the number of courses and each was a treat.
Breakfast service was extremely slow, but it was supposed to be a relaxing time, so perhaps this should have been expected. Breakfast was good quality if a little pedestrian and not quite living up to the beat-up ("it will set you up for the whole day...").
For the price, there were a couple of rough edges, a few slips in meal service and a couple of neglected services (parts of the package that were not delivered) but overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable (but expensive) weekend.
Our Garmin GPS could not find the road number but Google Maps found the property and the nearest cross roads worked in the GPS, eventually.

Room Tip: Spa House and lakeside chalets are away from the main house if there is a group of party goers in residence or a noisy function but all rooms are beautifully furnished and very comfortable.

We stayed in the lovely Hotel for our 27th Anniversary. My wife enjoyed a welcoming massage treatment in the nice spa. We had a great meal with special treatment for dessert. Fantastic breakfast and the nicest room overlooking the lake. All the staff were courteous and attentive. We will be back again and stay longer.

Room Tip: The room with the spa overlooking the lake is fantastic.

We arrived and were greeted by a very gracious host who showed us the entire Estate. we were placed in the massage section. Two rooms and the massage rooms! Our room was about 75 metres from the main, [gorgeous] home. The room was rather warm, due to the fact that their was only a control for the floor, not the room. Fairly steep staircase as well! Decided to open the windows to balance the atmosphere and found their were no fly/mosquito screens. With the semi filled dam adjacent we were not prepared to take the risk with mossies!! Therefore remained a little uncomfortable.

Settling down for a relax we were disturbed with a staff member dropping off 2 bottles of water! Why was the water not in the fridge?

Had a nice meal in the brasserie, with an over priced and limited wine list. Nice but nothing special.

Over all for our stay I was disappointed. This was mentioned to the delightful person at reception. We mentioned that we felt away from the facilities of the main house by being in the spa area. She suggested that as the rooms were larger there, the felt we would like them better.

Great staff, nice food but undoubtedly better value is available abundantly.

Quick note about the bed, not comfortable at all.

Room Tip: Stay in the main house
