Spent a night here earlier this month and so glad we did. The Black Swan is just 10 minutes drive from the M6 at Penrith and well worth the small detour. Our room was spacious, spotless and beautifully furnished. Don't panic if you are in the one next to the kitchen flu. The extractor is switched off when cooking is finished and well before bedtime.

Our evening meal, enjoyed in the bar, could not be faulted and the portions were generous. Breakfast the following morning ws served by a lovely lady who also did the cooking. Again, we loved it and her warmth gave you a great start to the day. In fact all the staff were friendly and helpful in this busy rural inn.

Room Tip: Worth the few pounds extra getting a king room,.

Lovely hotel 4 ml from the m6 so easy to get to. Rooms are small but very clean and tidy, you do get some noise from the road but its only the odd car as its a B road, i would stop here again on our travels.

stayed for 2 nights. When we arrived we where much earlier than the check in time but was more than welcomed to go to our room (big bonus)
On check out all rooms where filled but was able to stay in reception and use laptop on sofas whilst my partner was out on a MB course.
Very friendly, help full staff. Rooms very clean and décor to a high standard. Great tea tray selection and in bathroom good toiletries.. We where in room 6 which is small but cosy. Food good. Would stay again if in the area and recommend to others looking for a clean, quirky, well decorated friendly, warm B&B :)

Room Tip: Room 6 is small but very quiet and quite cosy with little bunk bed room and bathroom down 3 steps (q...

We booked this hotel/inn for a short stay. The standard of the accommodation was good , the quality of the food was excellent and the staff were very attentive and proficient . I would certainly recommend it for a good base to explore the Lakes.

Stayed one night, Saturday September 14th 2013 in a twin bedded room. Overall a pleasant stay.
Very friendly greeting by all staff. Booked mainly on the strength of the "home cooked, locally sourced" ingredients.
Room pleasantly decorated but evidence of damp on one wall. Rather cramped. Narrow space between end of beds and furniture. Couldn't fully open the shower room door.
Suggest booking a room at the back of the pub. We were at the front overlooking the car park. Windows are single glazed so noise from late night revellers and car engines resulted in a very disturbed night. Need to book time for evening meal on booking accommodation owing to very limited time slots, as we discovered.
Food was beautifully presented. Recommend the baked Camembert to share as a starter. Would be enough for three or four. Main courses - steak was O.K but 20% fat and sinew/gristle, not worth £16.95. Chips were very overcooked and had a sour flavour suggesting they had been re-fried. Also, texture indicated these were not "home made".
Excellent selection of vegetables. Potatoes Dauphinoise were superb. Chicken with tarragon mousse was disappointing. Very dry, hardly any sauce. Texture and flavour of the tarragon mousse suggested a commercial product. Breakfast was good. Unfortunately, we were last down owing to lack of sleep. Fruit juices and milk were removed shortly after we sat down at 9 a.m. so no "top ups" for tea or additional juice. Only one small mushroom each with the cooked breakfast. After such a warm welcome, it has to be said that we were a little disappointed overall and hope that the owners will take our comments into consideration.

Room Tip: Request a room at the back to reduce sleep disturbance from late night noise.

I found this place when searching for something different from a main city place it looked very appealing and so we booked and were not disapointed when we arrived it is a beautiful country inn and though it has only 7 bedrooms the public areas are spacious.
We had a king room and it was well appointed with all the usual needs the bed and bedding was like sleeping on a cloud.
We dined on the premises and the selection was very good with lots of local produce on the menu
if you wanted continental breakfast you told them when you booked in, but the regular breakfast was average, the staff were friendly and made us welcome

Room Tip: I am sure all the rooms would be as good as the one we had, we were over the front door a bit noisy...

We were recommended this place by our B&B and we weren't disappointed. Described to us as a "Gastro Pub" it was certainly a place for exceptional food at affordable prices. Will certainly return if we are in the area.
