“Artsy little village”
Reviewed 16 February 2008

The Seaview in Mapua, mid-way between Nelson and Abel Tasman National Park, is a great way to relax between hiking and kayaking. Diana & Murray Brown have a lovely home within walking distance of restaurants, shops and galleries. The rooms are adequate with a private outdoor sitting area overlooking the garden. The Browns are knowledgeable and more than happy to advise you of local sites. You can select a hot or continental breakfast.

  • Liked — proximity to Abel Tasman Park and proximity to village
  • Disliked — smallish room

My husband and I stoped off in the Seaview in Mapua, Nelson last August on our way to the Abel Tasman park and didn't want to leave!

Murray and Diana's beautiful home overlooks the everchanging estuary. The view was absolutely breathtaking.

Rooms were spotless and modernly decorated with TV and ensuite in each. No tea-making facilities in the rooms was my only gripe but we were welcome to help ourselves to tea and coffee from the kitchen.

For breakfast we could chose between a continental or cooked breakfast. I chose continental and my husband had the works.

We spent our two days taking walks around the village and estuary. Mapua is popular with artists so there were lots of little shops and galleries to poke around in. At night, the sky was so clear we could see the milky-way!

The owners are perfect hosts and couldn't do enough for us. Their recommendations for dinner (The Smokehouse and The Flax) were also spot on.

I would sincerely recommend that anyone visiting the national parks or South Island stops off here for a day or two to unwind. Their website is also good (------).

5 Thank BurkieBrownie
