“Food was brilliant... service was excellent”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

Whilst staying at a near by cottage my family and I visited for Sunday lunch .... I wish we lived closer so we could visit more often!!! 12 of us, mixture of adults and children, and every single person enjoyed their food immensely! Tasty , quality home cooked food presented beautifully! The pub itself was so charming and the staff very attentive. The manager. Chris, was lovely and made sure we were all happy. We will definitely be back one day ... Even if just for those home made chips!!! The (large) Gillian family

“Brilliant Fish & Chips”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

We have just spent almost a week at the caravan site at the rear of the Duke of York which in itself is well worth a visit, very new with fantastic views. Whilst there we called in for a meal at the pub and had some of the best fish & chips we have had in a long time. Ample portions, all served piping hot and delicious. Add in the very friendly staff and you have yourself a very pleasurable experience. We are already booked in again at the caravan site and look forward to another meal in the Duke of a York. Definitely recommended.

“Longest wait for food ever”
Reviewed 22 June 2014 via mobile

I have never waited so long for food in my life!

When we arrived at the pub, we were told that the restaurant had just become extremely busy so we ordered 2 drinks and then soon after ordered 2 main courses. At the time we were not told that there would be a long wait, but the family who ordered after us were told at least 20 minutes....which we thought was an acceptable waiting time.

After 1 hour and three rounds of drinks later there was still no food to be seen for us or anyone in our bar. When it got to an hour and a half we asked the bar man (who appeared to be the manager) how long our food would be. He told us that the restaurant was very busy and we were told on ordering that there would be a wait. I informed him that although we expected there to be a wait (I didn't tell him that the bar man hadn't said there'd be a wait), we were not told that it would be an hour and a half. His response was 'either I can find out how much longer it will be or I can cancel the order'. Unfortunately, as it was now after 8.30 going somewhere else was not an option. We found his response very rude. It was as though it was our fault for thinking an hour and a half was unreasonable!

When the man came back, he told us that the food was being plated up. It finally arrived at 8.45pm after ordering at 7.05.....

The food was tasty (although by that point we would have eaten anything they put infront of us), however the vegetable lasange consisted of cheese, lasange sheets and courgettes.

A lovely bar man (who I think may have been another manager or owner) came over after our meal and apologised for our food wait, but we still paid full price and spent twice as much on drink than we would have done.

Just stayed this weekend and had a great time. Campsite is excellent with some of the best facilities I have seen. ( they were new ). Owners could not be more accomodating and attentive. Food was very good and everything was piping hot.
Will definately stay again and will look forward to it.

“Dry unattractive food”
Reviewed 2 June 2014 via mobile

We went for dinner with a group of friends and children, unfortunately the pub does not have a children's menu. When asked if we could have a half portion for the children we were told by the waitress "he doesn't do children's portions".
One of the group ordered the tuna and chilli noodles from the specials board, the last one as it was then crossed out. However it was served with the sides meant for the salmon dish (new potatoes and cream sauce), it caused some difficulties and delays when the noodles were requested....eventually served with the now very dry piece of tuna.
Our meals were dry and of poor quality.

Despite advertising 3 local bitters, only 1 was available at the time and the pub ran out of the one of the two white wines.

On the flip side the campsite area was very pleasant, lovely modern, clean facilities and a nicely organised site.
