“Hubby's birthday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 December 2013 via mobile

We ate here last night with our son and husbands aunt and uncle. As our son is only 10 I asked if there was a children's menu , I was told no but they could do smaller portions of the menu items which I think is a lovely change from nuggets and chips etc. myself and my husband had the 8 oz sirloin which was cooked to perfection, my husbands aunt uncle and our son had the gammon (this was unable to be cut smaller but they gave him les chips etc so as not to overwhelm him. All the meals were wonderful as was the service friendliness of the staff and the atmosphere. We all had puds too ( even my son ! ) and again they were wonderful. Will definitely be returning. Great day topped off with a fantastic meal in this little gem !!

“Fabulous food- excellent value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 November 2013

What a gem! Wonderful food, cooked fresh, superb quality and quantity, excellent value for money. The atmosphere is relaxed and congenial, the staff are attentive yet discrete- and the host and his wife are genuinely welcoming. The dining experience is wonderful whilst the bar has a home from home feel. Well worth a second visit :)

“Great Place for family Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

11 of us got together for celebration of 2 birthdays! Ages ranged from 15 to 89 with most decades in between. The carvery was terrific and for me was wonderful offering very rare and tasty roast beef. Also on offer roast ham and turkey and large range of veggies. Specially liked the leeks in cream...yum. Very friendly staff and really look forward to visiting again. Super range of real ale and fairly good wine selection at reasonable price. Great value.

“Great food and staff very friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

We dined here twice during our stay in a nearby holiday, staff could not make you more welcome,. The food was very well priced and huge portions. The menus states that the food was cooked fresh and to expect a short delay while it was cooked to order,,, but it was well worth the wait ,,,on the second visit there was a problem with one of our meals being too spicy m but the staff was very happy to change the meal.... very happy with whole experience. .

“Friendly Attentive Staff, OK Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

A first visit to this pub as we were staying in the area and it was handy just after we had arrived. Food is typical pub fayre, lots of pies and steaks on offer. The steak and kidney pie had a lovely pastry top, but the meat and gravy was either heavily salted or something quite hot was in the sauce, as there was a hot after taste. The chips were delicious. Overall It was ok, but disappointing. My husband enjoyed his curry. Lovely banoffie pie for pudding.

The staff were very attentive and pleasant and clearly wanted you to enjoy your meal.

The lounge itself is desperately in need of an overhaul; it was like being in a pub back in the 80s. We did wonder why there was a large empty gilt picture frame standing next to a table, by the fireplace, which seemed rather odd and black tape along a seat edge. All rather tired. I appreciate that heavy investment is required these days and that times are hard and that might not be possible.

So all in all, an ok meal, but unfortunately, we wouldn't return.
