“worth visiting if in area”

Gumbaz Burial Chamber
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 3 April 2014

We enjoyed our visit and the history of Tipu Sultan more than we expected. It does not take long but one of the better historical buildings to see.

Tipu sultan, the tiger of mysore built Gumbaz in the midst of lal bagh, a beautiful garden. He built tombs for his father Hyder ali and mother fathima Begaum in Gumbaz. The structure is very beautiful standing on a high and wide platform with an open verandah of polished pillars all around
Nice place do visit

Anyone who loves Indian history should visit this place. This is where Tipu & his family lie 6 feet beneath. They were all buried here & the Gumbaz is a burial ground now. It is a well maintained peaceful place. Huge lawn & we are free to sit there & rest. As we go inside the Tomb, some Islamic youth were chanting their prayers & some elders sitting by the side.
Not too much history written about how they died though.
May his soul REST IN PEACE...

Tipu sultan built this tomb as a tribute to his illustrious father Hyder Ali.This place is near by sangam, and tipu sultan summer palace, so if you have some time then you can visit this place, One can easily avoid this place if is running out of time(not a must seen item). I would rate this place 4 out of 10.
