“Dissapointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

We love the setting, the wines and the ambiance. But the current menu was a let down. We ordered "small plates" to share followed by mains. The "small plates" were very small plates. We hoped to share them round all four of us, however two forkfuls of the salmon and it was gone. The beef Carpaccio was 4 meager slices for $7.50. The mains lacked a depth of flavour, Asian salad was 90% noodles/tagiatelle, 5% greens and at best 5% chicken. "Add fries" for $3, I guess 6 fries is a plural so "add fries" is technically correct, but that's about all.

All in all, "meh" food and not the best value. Shame really, because we used to enjoy dining here.

Hi Nick H
Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate all feedback we receive.
Our small plate platters at $20 for 3 options are a chance for our guests to sample a bite size taste of something special & are designed to be eaten as a lunch by one or to share as a starter by 2 people, so we can understand that you may have felt like you did not have enough to feed the the four of you.
The add fries are designed to give you the choice of whether or not you want to have a portion of fries with your meal and should be filled to the brim, we will be keeping a close eye on this as it sounds like you didn't receive the appropriate amount. We also offer the larger side of fries for those who would like a bigger feed.
We pride ourselves on consistently good service & food at reasonable prices with our lunches under $20 & our dinners under $30.
We are sorry that our food style was not to your tastes, perhaps if you return you would enjoy our venison burger it definitely fills the gap.
Thankyou for taking the time to write a review we appreciate the feedback as both good & bad help us to improve our service

“Excellent food & service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2014

My husband & I recently went for lunch at this lovely restaurant winery, and loved the whitebait special. Our waiter, Olivier, provided us with top notch service and also gave us great NZ info. We highly recommend this restaurant for lunch which is set in a lovely garden, in the beautiful Nelson region.

“Great cafe amongst the vineyards”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 January 2014

This cafe is on the Waimea Wines property but separately owned and operated. We enjoyed a beautiful lunch here on our way to Nelson. We loved the whitebait fritters, eggs benedict, caesar salad and Vietnamese salad all wshed down with a tasty Pinot gris. We finished off with Cheesecake and ice cream trio...all of it was delicious. We will definitely return next time we are in the region!!

Thank you very much Jacquie P for taking the time out to review us. Each one goes a long way!
I am very pleased you enjoyed everything. The pinot gris is one of my favourites as well, and the icecream is a New Zealand based company that we think is one of the best!
Thanks again for your positive feedback, we take it all in!

Katrina

The setting in Waimea Estates really complements this style of food.

Would recommend ordering from the small plates. These go brilliantly with the matches Waimea varieties.

“Can't keep it a secret.......”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 December 2013

Went here on a balmy evening - What a superb place! Doors and windows open out to a leafy vineyard. Welcome was warm and great hospitality continued throughout the evening. Menu was varied and reasonably priced, and presentation tops. Go for the selection of three dishes for starters - Whatever three you choose - you wont be disappointed. Main of fish & fettuccine - who would have thought?? Yummo. Devine cheesecake to follow - chased with Waimea Estate wine. Top evening.
p.s. Just one thing staff who bring out meals - please know to whom you are to serve which meal (no asking your guests).
