I arrived at the Parkside Motel on the evening of January 7, 2013 having sailed from Wellington to Picton that afternoon. The Parkside was perfectly located for my travel plans. It was easy to find and got me past Nelson and prepared to move through the northernmost mountains on my way to Greymouth the next day.

The people at reception were very friendly and told me how to get back to the main street to find a supermarket. The room was equipped with microwave so I was able to save a bit on my evening meal (accompanied with a Renaissance ale made by a Blenheim micro brewery). They had a nice pool in the back which was very refreshing on what had proved to be one of the hottest days of the year. Unfortunately I cold only use it for a few minutes because a major thunderstorm came off the Tasman and down the Cook Strait so I had to head back in to the room.

My only problem was the heat in the room (it was on the top floor - up a significant flight of stairs) and the room held the heat from the day. The air conditioner wasn't really able to cope with how hot the room was and the windows faced the main highway so opening them wasn't really an option. As a senior I wish that I'd made arrangements for a room on the ground floor.

That considered, I would certainly recommend it as a place to stop for the night (or a few if your focus was the Marlborough Region).

We are pleased Terry enjoyed the room. We strive to ensure our accommodation and service we provide is consistantly high. The airconditioning unit is appropriately sized for the room and if operated correctly will ensure the room is maintained at a constant comfortable temperature. Unfortunately, occasionally, we find that previous guests change the sytems settings and this can affect how efficiently the system operates.

We stayed for 1 night just after Christmas and had a great time. The room was great, very clean with all the amenities and the service was outstanding from the friendly owners. It is a great location. The pool is lovely and heated and backs on to a nice park. We took a bike ride to nearby Brightwater which was great. Wish we'd stayed longer.

Great to read these guests enjoyed their stay. We are 150m accross a park to the newly developed cycle trail that runs from Nelson City south to Brightwater and west to Rabbit Island, Mapua and ultimately towards Kaiteriteri. Our guests are increasingly taking advantage of the opportunity to explore the Tasman District by bike while staying at our motel.

I stayed with my 2 teenage children in a 2 bedroom apartment for 6 nights in December 2012. We absolutely loved this motel! Our apartment (No 10) was at the back of the complex looking out over the beautiful swimming pool and large sports field/park at the back (where my son played cricket in the evenings). The accommodation was very spacious and with a lot of windows and sliding doors it is very light and bright. There is a lovely private patio with an outdoor setting which looks out over the pool. Our apartment was away from the road so we did not hear any traffic noise. The weather while we were in Nelson was hot and my children lived in the pool. There was a TV in the lounge as well as a small one in the main bedroom with Sky which my son was very happy about as he was able to watch the cricket. There was also a single bed as well as a king bed in the main bedroom which would be great if you had 3 children. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Parkside Motel and will not hesitate to come and stay again when we are in Nelson.

Room Tip: If looking for accommodation for your family (for 2 adults and up to 3 children), definitely book room number 10 - it is a 2 bedroom apartment and is at the back of the complex next to the pool.

It was a pleasure to host this family and we are extremely pleased they enjoyed thier time. The unit they stayed in is our largest and ideally suited to families.

On the main road so best to get one of the rooms near the back if you are a light sleeper, but even near the road the noise is not too bad. The units are large and the owners go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. The pool looked very inviting but we didn't have time to try it.

Room Tip: Rooms beside the pool will be quieter.

Our units furtherest away from the road are undoubtedly the quietest however all of the units at the front of the site have been treated to minimise the impact of traffic noise. The treatment includes hush glass which provides an acoustic barrier proven to exceed that provided by double glazing and acoustic linings to the curtains. The pool is inviting and we have the heating system on. We are pleased our guests enjoyed their stay.

We had a 1 bed room suite.
This place was basically brand new.
All the facilities were excellent. The setting near the park is lovely, the pool is beautiful and the location is very convenient to local attractions.
This is the sort of place where you could stop and relax for a couple of days rather than just a one night stop-over.
Could not fault it.
Great for families and couples on self-drive holidays.
