I chanced upon Firefly Villa while searching for accommodation near Sekinchan. I was initially apprehensive (can a B&B in a Malaysian kampung (village) be that good?) but decided to give it a try nonetheless.
The Villa is located way off the main road, and is very difficult to find without a GPS. Do not be fooled by the rustic, unpretentious surrounding which gives the Villa a very kampung or even run-down feel. Upon entering the building, it is a different world. The main and dining halls are spacious and tastefully decorated. The quad room is huge with comfortable bedding and equipped with 2 split a/c units to keep the temperature cool despite the scorching heat.
The breakfast is sumptuous and delicious, and beats many of the rather standardized buffet breakfasts in hotels hands down. It is amazing that the hosts bothered to prepare so much food for no more than 4 rooms of guests.
The host, Mr Afandi, is friendly, helpful, and is a good source of travel tips in the vicinity.
By the time I checked out, I have answered my own question. Yes, a B&B in a Malaysian kampung can be good, if the hosts want it to be.
