I chanced upon Firefly Villa while searching for accommodation near Sekinchan. I was initially apprehensive (can a B&B in a Malaysian kampung (village) be that good?) but decided to give it a try nonetheless.

The Villa is located way off the main road, and is very difficult to find without a GPS. Do not be fooled by the rustic, unpretentious surrounding which gives the Villa a very kampung or even run-down feel. Upon entering the building, it is a different world. The main and dining halls are spacious and tastefully decorated. The quad room is huge with comfortable bedding and equipped with 2 split a/c units to keep the temperature cool despite the scorching heat.

The breakfast is sumptuous and delicious, and beats many of the rather standardized buffet breakfasts in hotels hands down. It is amazing that the hosts bothered to prepare so much food for no more than 4 rooms of guests.

The host, Mr Afandi, is friendly, helpful, and is a good source of travel tips in the vicinity.

By the time I checked out, I have answered my own question. Yes, a B&B in a Malaysian kampung can be good, if the hosts want it to be.

We enjoyed out 2 nights here. The owners helped to arrange taxi to see the fireflies. Breakfast was delicious with lots of variety. The inn is a ways from town so on our second day we opted to stay at the inn and relax. We had fruit, snacks and noodle soup to eat. At dinner time the owners brought us some food they had prepared. This was very unexpected and gracious. We would suggest if you visit you have a car to get around. Highly recommend

Room Tip: We stayed in the room by the pool with a sliding patio door.

We stayed at this homestay a second time when we visited Kuala Selangor for birding. It is physically located in a kampong (village). It is definitely worth a visit for anyone who wishes to experience a kampong lifestyle. More so for anyone who is a birder. It is smack in Tanjung Karang one of the best places for migratory birds in Malaysia.
Despite being located in a kampong, Firefly Inn offers a 5 star service. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The beddings are exceptional. Mr. Appandi, the owner is a very pleasant person. His breakfast of nasi lemak with big prawns and mouth watering sambal is a relish.
We will visit this facility again without any reservations.

Room Tip: This is an excellent place for birders and for those who love to experience a kampong like lifestyle...

We just came back from a lovely and relaxing stay at the FireFly Villa. We really felt as being at home and shared the spacious and very clean Kings Room with our 2 kids. The villa is in the middle of nature, and far from crowded and noisy areas, but still close to many attractions (as: the Fire Fly Park, the Eagle Feeding, Bukit Melawati,..) and good restaurants in the neighbourhood. The kids also enjoyed the pool (1 adult + 1 kidspool) and wifi is complementary. It seems as Mister Apandi, who is very helpful and full of ideas re. your trip and planning, is recieving a lot of guests, so you might consider booking good in advance.

We had the family room for 2 nights. It has 2 queen beds which was just nice for us and our 3 kids. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was good and prepared and ready for us to dine at our convenience. How lovely! My kids enjoyed the space and roamed around looking at the goats, chickens and even picking up chicken and peahen feathers. We enjoyed ourselves and wouldn't mind returning for another stay if we have the opportunity!

What a surprise that was in store for both my wife and myself when we stayed at this property owned by Mr. Affendi and his wife. As a Malaysian we had my reservations about homestays. But this place far exceeded our expectations. The owner Mr.Affendi travelled quite a bit to guide us to his place in Sungai Gulang-Gulang. On the way he took us bird watching in the padi fields. Upon arrival we were given a welcome drink before moving into our room.
The room was immaculately clean and very pleasing. The choice of decor was tasteful. The Balinese bed was a treat. The sheets and pillows were also very clean. Coffee and tea as well as bottled water were provided in the room. The bathroom was spotless.
The breakfast was very delicious. In fact this was the best nasi lemak that we have ever eaten. The large prawns were super-fresh and juicy. The Malays cakes were also well prepared by Mrs. Affendi.
The house located in a kampung had a Balinese ambience. Mr. Affendi had goats, peacocks and jungle fowls in a natural surroundings.
Mr. Affendi also showed us the much sought Pita (bird) that was in his garden.
In short this small but 6 star service homestay was a memorable one for my wife and myself.
We would definitely return to this beautiful home without any reservations.

Room Tip: The deluxe room (for a couple) is excellent for the price we paid.

We arrived late at the villa but warmly welcomed by the host, en. Apandi. Fortunately the Google Map has shown the right direction despite the loacation is quite remote. At the car park area, we could see the Balinese-style entrance. We found the room spacious & toilet was very clean. The living area is very decorative and nice. For Muslims, there is a prayer room that could accommodate 7-8 pax per prayer. The best part for kids is the pool which is very clean. I would suggest this villa for small scale family outing or business retreat.
