We had booked The Pavilions for the last day of our Tassie soujourn and as a celebration for my birthday. The staff, the service, the environment was without fault. The Pavillions are without doubt par excellence as they have just about thought of everything. The bath with a view over the river is the perfect place to unwind after a day in the gallery and surrounds. The scenerey is so perfect and soothing. Arrival to a complimentary bottle of sparkling sets the mood for a quiet drink on the balcony overlooking the river and just soaking it all up! As the restaurant is closed Sunday evenings it left us with the choice of a degustation lunch, which didn't appeal as we wanted to spend as much time in the gallery as possible, therefore a light lunch at the winery, which was terrific, left us with the decision of room service. Based on the selection which we checked out prior to arrival, we thought this a fitting way to spend the birthday evening. This was a great disappointment, the main course ended up in the bin! The sides and dessert lovely. A bit of a dampener on a perfect day and evening. We finished off our stay with breakfast at The Source the next morning and although nice, it wasn't noteworthy, overcooked eggs. All this said, we would return, the gallery amazing, the grounds superb, but only heightened by the attentive staff and the sublime environment. A great addition and either start or finish to you Tassie journey.

Room Tip: Room choice depends on your taste in art or architecture.

This was our second visit . The whole experience was wonderful , great service , the freely available services such as admission to the Gallery , Wine tasting , Beer tasting . use of the pool etc . Just loved it . The degustation lunch ws fabulous and not to be missed .The breakfast hamper in our Pavilion was also terrific . The lapses from perfection were 1] the unavailability of the restaurant on the Sunday night --- this was only noticed/declared after we had booked the room 2] The only food available on the Sunday night was a not too great room service menu 3] The decor in the Pavilion was not as stunning as in the pavilion we had stayed in on our first visit and the view would be musch better if a stack of trees were removed ---much better in original pavilions 4] the multiplicity of electronic controls for everything were over the top and in the end quite a nuisance and a pain in the derriere to work . Otherwise a not to be missed esperience -- we are coming back

Room Tip: Try to get one of the original Pavilions

We stayed in Sidney for one night as a birthday treat and combined that with our first visit to Mona and enjoyed it immensely. The pavilion was beautiful and the view from the pavilion and the spa bath in particular, were stunning. staff were charming and attentive. Only, minor thing and surprising in somewhere of this quality and price was that the bathroom needed a bit of attention - minor water damage on the wall by the spa and cracked tiles at the shower entrance.

Staying there meant we were able to take the museum at our own pace and fit in a winery tour as well. Loved it and would save up to go there again.

We stayed 2 nights and loved the entire Mona experience.
The pavilions, the restaurant, the gallery, the staff and the grounds, all brilliant!
If you can afford to stay at the pavilions I think it enhances the whole Mona experience. No need for gallery fatigue, a short nap and back for more!

We stayed in Brett, loved every second, world class accomodation next to a world class collection/building/facility. As a huge admirer of Brett Whiteley's work I just enjoyed sitting down and having an original on my wall even if it was only for 24 hours :) Well done MONA and all involved with her, especially David Walsh, should be bloody well Knighted by the Taswegian government that bloke.

Room Tip: Any of them are just great

Stayed 2 nights in Arthur over Xmas, which has stunning views and is enormous and beautifully designed. Bathroom is amazing. Service was generally very high. Sound system is great and has an excellent (albeit pricey) fully stocked bar. TV / Hi Fi remote system aged and clunky. The Source restaurant is magnificent (albeit v pricey) Museum is outstanding and a real credit to the owners.
Co owners daughter 'Olivia' is the hardest worker in the place and is delightful

Lowlights
Highlight windows on both sides including over bathroom were filthy and should be frequently cleaned as should bird poo down side of building (see photo)
At this price point internal blinds (cheap nasty winders) should be electrically operated
During Christmas day music was blaring through outdoor speakers from The Source restaurant directly towards pavillions whether you liked it or not.
Expensive room service food arrived tepid and was quite a bit lesser quality than in the restaurant

Room Tip: As Mona ferry does not automatically stop for Pavillion passengers at nearest wharf ask them to drop...

It was recently with utter sense of elation to return to MONA so soon after having first visited in March, and stayed again the night in Roy, an alluring 2 bedroom pavilion.
"Theatre of the World" the major installation earlier in the year had caused me such excitement, bringing alive the child within, awakening the sheer pleasure of being both in a "museum" so without pretence, yet so visually, emotionally stimulating, even playful. I was very curious to learn if the new installation "Red Queen" could induce the same wonderment, freedom of response, and memorability. The sense of contradiction and curiosity was again so ignited that it is now hard to imagine this would not become an annual pilgrimage.
Staying on site is the ultimate luxury but in many ways enhances the experience. The situation on the river, the great dramatic skies, the quiet before and after opening hours, the sheer feel of "home away from home" in the pavillions, a quiet space to come back to for contemplation before again foraying into the museum makes for something special. In short I most appreciate the rooms are so unlike a hotel and the museum so unlike the more usual reverential temples of art.
It is such a winning and clever concept. As others have observed, it could be just as easy to cosset yourself away, so comfortable and thoughtful are all the accoutrements to be found in the apartments, from fabulous books and music, to superlative beds and bathrooms, organic milk, local treats, gorgeous tub on the deck and a wine selection beyond compare. Throughout the complex, whether in the cafe, the dining room or the museum where many of the attendants are themselves art practitioners, there is a genuine sense of welcome, hospitality and openness to engagement. MONA alone is worth a trip to this magical little isle, yet there is also a treasure trove to explore beyond Hobart.
