Milkwood Lodge is situated in a gorgeous little cul-de-sac of lodges, in a small wooded area away from the main road. It has its own lovely little garden and large decked area tucked privately to the rear of the property. It also has a rotary line for outside drying of clothes.
The Lodge has a large hot tub placed on the deck. We booked when the hot tub was not being provided (we knew it wasn't being offered when we booked, so we weren't disappointed), but now it is up and running, and we look forward to using it on our next holiday there.
The Lodge also has a Sauna; however, we didn't get around to using it as there were so many other things to do in the area.
The surrounding scenery is absolutely astounding, I have never seen such a pretty place!
The lodge was absolutely immaculate when we arrived, and many things such as washing up liquid etc., were already there when we arrived – along with cakes in the fridge!
The lodge itself is comfort orientated, everything about the place screams comfort!
The beds are lovely and comfortable, and the large sofas are gorgeous to stretch out on after a busy day exploring. The lodge itself very well furnished and has everything you could possibly need, including a very large fridge freezer, a massive range cooker and a huge amount of work space in the kitchen. The kitchen also has a washing machine and dryer.
The inside of the lodge is very large, great if you like a bit of space to yourself at the end of the day. The heavy floor length curtains block out enough sunlight to ensure that you wake when you're ready, not when the sun comes up. There are ceiling fans in the master bedroom and living room, an absolute blessing on warm days. I also have to note the sound system on the TV, wow! Absolutely brilliant!
Recycling is a must, and they use a system of bins, which simplifies the process even further.
We took two dogs with us, and they absolutely loved it there, plenty of places for walking and exploring. The beach in Barmouth is a great place to take them.
A car is a necessity, as the nearest shops are around 10-15 minutes away by car, but everything you could possibly need can be found in the small nearby village in the post office/spar.
All in all, it was one of the best holidays we have ever had, and I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who wants to go on holiday to completely relax in peaceful surroundings.
Thank you Philip & Pamela for allowing us to use your gorgeous home.
This place is truly a treasure, and we look forward to returning next year if you'll have us.
We stayed with 2 children in April and it was excellent. We were sad that the hot tub was no longer in use as that would of made it for us. Although there is a sauna actually in the lodge which we used.
We were about an hour away from Snowdon which was a little more than we anticipated but that was fine.
The lodge was larger than we thought and has everything that you could need.
It was clean and tidy although the only down side that I can pick is that I’m allergic to dogs and could tell that dogs had stayed at the lodge due to my allergies ( which it does advertise ) so that was more my mistake.
The place was very quiet and ideal to get away from everything. There are no restaurants or shops that you can walk to, but they provide a number of a taxi
We had a lovely stay. Thank you
Lovely location with breath taking walks on your doorstep. Car essential if you want to explore even locally although Asda do deliver shopping to the lodge! Facilities are excellent although personally I think much more could be made of the space available as the lodge is very spacious compared to others we have visited. Not sure on the sauna - maybe better used as a second bedroom? Understand the reasons for stopping the hot tubs but we enjoyed this feature and it made New Years Eve and many a cold night and think its is a added attraction to the lodge. Probably in need of a décor update as there is a smell of damp at times especially in the master bedroom, but not overpowering. We used it as a base to explore. Barmouth is only a short drive with a stunning beach, Dolgellau is very pretty and the Cross Foxes Pub near Dolgellau was dog friendly and very welcoming. I cannot fault the lodge, yes there were instructions for most equipment but we did not find them 'in your face' they were there if needed. Would recommend for dog lovers, quiet weekends or a base to explore this area. Thanks to the owners for making this a lovely New Year.
Can’t explain how amazing the place is. It was just the perfect place for my fiancé and I to stay for a week. Cozy warm with plenty to do in the area.
Will definitely go back for sure!
We had a very comfortable and most enjoyable three night break at Milk Wood.
The facilities and cabin were excellent and extremely clean throughout. The kitchen was so well equipped that it put most household kitchens to shame. There was a brand new cooker and washer, dryer and dishwasher.
The whole cabin is spacious and the log burner was an added bonus.
The bedrooms have lots of storage and the beds comfortable.
The person who has reviewed this as a one star before this review is frankly the most stupid person ever.
How on earth would anyone know how to work appliances, tv, sauna, hot tub etc without instructions. Unfortunately some people are stupid enough to put nappies etc in the toilet and this will lead to huge repair costs for the owner as well as the impact on other guests whose holidays would have to be cancelled while the problem is sorted.
There were no bad smells and the owner never intruded on our space.
So as this idiot has titled his review ‘please read’ then yes, read all the other excellent ones and have a great holiday.
Many thanks Phil.
I would to start on a positive as the rest of this is unfortunately going to be negative. The cabin is situated in the most beautiful location with stunning scenery. The facilities which are of use such as the hot tub and sauna are fantastic.
However, on the hot tub rules and regulations state you can only use it at certain hours. The hot tub is checked every day by the owner who turned up within in the hours of allowed use. The owner should of been more considerate and informative of what time he would be arriving so we wasn't put in an awkward situation.
The decor is 20 years out of date and curtains and coven covered in dust and cobwebs. There is damp smells coming from sauna and rear door area.
The rules and regulations are beyond a joke. If you don't follow them strictly, you will lose the deposit you have paid in advance. Rules include things like 'don't put nappies or condoms down the toilet' this is a sign which you are greeted with infront of the toilet. That is just one of the rules so you can imagine some of the others which are also stuck around the cabin.
Despite the issues this just needs ripping out, cleaned and redecorating and would be the perfect retreat. Also, if the owner didn't treat the guests like employees or servants.
