“Time for an update?”
Reviewed 20 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Although set in beautiful surroundings and with access to the owner's lovely gardens, I'm afraid I thought this cottage was due some improvement. It is quite shabby and some items need replacing, notably the broken toilet seat which had been mentioned by previous occupants in the visitor's book. The bathroom shelf, where I wanted to put my toiletries, was grubby. The place mats were uninviting. Didn't have any matches to light the fire on the first evening so cold feet in bed. The owner was friendly and helpful so I feel a bit bad leaving this review, but I hope it may bring about some change for the better.

“Fabulous Location”
Reviewed 11 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We stayed here for a few days in early May and cannot fault the location! The owners extended a warm welcome then left us to explore the grounds and the many local attractions. This cottage and Plas Hen are away from the main house so ideal if you are noisy! The cottage soon warmed up when we switched on the heaters and we had plenty of fuel for the fire. The cottage could maybe use a lick of paint and TLC but for the price it was really good. We were out all day every day enjoying ourselves! Great for families as there is plenty of room for the kids to roam about - few mins walk to the river- and bunk beds in the second bedroom. Enjoy!

“A nice place to spend a week relaxing and as a base for exploring the area”

We enjoyed staying in Garden Cottage for a week in July. Good location with lovely views across to Cadair Idris, and nice to be able to wander in the estate grounds as well as down to the Torrent Walk, and up the hill behind the house. Dolgellau isn't far off for groceries etc, though we didn't cycle from the house as much as we'd anticipated (even as adults, let alone with the kids), as the local road traffic was a bit scary (not helped by the current roadworks on the main road into Dolgellau). We appreciated the use of the shed to store bikes though, and the front and back gardens were pleasant for relaxing. Lots to do locally - we went up Cadair Idris, cycled from Dolgellau to Barmouth along the off-road route, and in Coed y Brenin, and went up to Porthmadog for the Ffestiniog railway, as well as local walks such as the Precipice Walk. Very helpful owners, answering email queries in advance and then letting us in; the flowers and scones were a nice welcoming touch!

Liked best: views
Liked least: bathroom (functional but small and downstairs at the back). Parking - a bit scary reversing out into the lane from the space opposite the house as generally very quiet but then sudden farm traffic and low visibility
