My wife and I spent the holiday season at Sand Dollar Villa, and stayed for a three weeks. The owners, Rafael Manrique and his wife Eda Cores, welcomed us warmly, showed us around, and immediately made us feel at home. The house is wonderful, spacious, well ventilated, air conditioned, tastefully decorated, with modern amenities and a spectacular view, both from the living room and from the well protected patio and pool. After giving us many tips and documentation on where to go and what to do, our gracious hosts left us to enjoy a breathtaking sunset, and the beach access from the property allowed us to experience a magical nighttime swim, under zillions of stars, with our movements creating sweeping constellations of bioluminescence in the warm ocean as we walked on a bottom of soft sand without ever encountering seaweed, rocks or other unpleasant surprises. On most days, we had the beach all to ourselves: a rare unspoilt tropical paradise at a time when any stretch of tropical beach is usually crowded with hotels and condo high-rises. During our stay, we enjoyed dinners at the only two boutique hotels in the area, as well as a cosy terrace-restaurant called La Promesa. A 45-minute car ride took us to Boquete and hiking on a mountain trail. We even enjoyed a sensational deep-sea fishing trip! Sand Dollar Villa is the perfect escape from Canadian winters, and we plan to make it an annual visit. Absolutely fabulous!
