This is a place were you are made to feel very welcome, and nothing is too much trouble.

We went for lunch on a Saturday and were graced with beautiful weather, which enabled us to sit outside to have pre drinks and coffee after.

We have found that we can not fault this hotel or restaurant, and will keep coming back.

The food, service surroundings are exceptional with some great detail.

We have just booked a private dining room to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary next year, we can't wait.

Keep up the good work Hambleton.

This has to be the destination of choice for any traveller crossing the Midlands.
We'd been here some years before, but nothing seemed changed, which led us to speculate what one most wants from a hotel: polite helpful staff, clean bedroom and bathroom, hot water, and a sense of being welcome? Hambledon provides all of these in spades (we would recommend the Bay Room, with its delicious glimpses of Rutland Water sparkling through the trees) though for anyone having difficulty with baths, the shower controls seemed to need a BSc in Technology.
The luxury of pretty rooms, squashy sofas, a cheerful fire and the quite exceptionally attentive staff made this a really happy stay. Dinner was as good as one would hope (£72 tasting menu) despite a disappointingly flavoured quail halfway through, but the breakfast....!! Perfect scrambled eggs, cafe latte (instead of the dreaded stewed percolator) and wonderful toast with thick creamy butter and home-made marmalade - we were sorry to leave.

Room Tip: It seems a shame not to go for one on the garden side, with a view of the lake.

Spent a weekend here for my birthday. Wonderful reception, superb service. All very discrete and 'low key', nothing ostentatious or flashy. Wonderfully relaxing with lovely views and walks on the doorstep. the food was really good, wine list had some reasonably priced wines right through to some really top end wines. HH is worth every penny for rest, relaxation, special occasion and luxury combined.

Just one night here this time, my wife and I, in June 2012. The usual lovely welcoming service, staff remembering us, and the room as delightful as usual.

One thing that we particularly like about Hambleton Hall is the range of rooms in different price brackets. For us it is Fern if we are feeling flush, Noel Coward if we have had an expensive few months!

The food was wonderful, as ever, with each course as good as the last. A great place for a retreat lasting a few days, set as it is in the beautiful countryside of Rutland with plenty to see.

We had two wonderful nights here with our Labrador Ella who was made very welcome. We took the Fern suite which is magical with stupendous views of Rutland Water. In fact the room was so good that following a long walk around (part of) Rutland we went to the room to order room service for our lunch. We had a beautiful salmon salad sitting in the bay window with a Fantastic view over the grounds and down to Rutland Water with our dog with us and fantastic wine and service. We ate at their superb restaurant each night even though we know the Finches just down the road is excellent. We could not have asked for more and even Ella (our Labrador) was spoilt with her own blanket and dog biscuits in the room on arrival. If you enjoy wonderful walking, fabulous food, delightfully dog friendly hotels with super surroundings don't stint on the price and just "go with it"!!

Room Tip: You do get what you pay for so if it is a special occasion splash out you will not be disappointed

We stayed at the Hambleton Hall for a brief weekend away from London. Very easy to get to actually, straight up the A1M.
As others have noted, the spot is really quite lovely and the village itself cute as a button with rambling stone houses, waving trees and lovely little pub - we dined at the pub for our second dinner - nowhere near as nice as the first but it was good to be able to enjoy an ale and walk back to the Hotel. Any other pubs would be a drive away.
Our room was a second floor, lake view room and I'd recommend this. The views were quite wow and impressed the Mrs.
The downstairs bar and lounge is good with a very affordable set of whiskys to enjoy in front of the fireplace.
The staff are a varied bunch of nationalities as you'd expect in a country house these days! They are all excellent however and clearly take pride in the hotel.
I'd recommend you order the bread selection, another very affordable treat given the overall cost of the hotel.
Also, ask them to make you up some homemade jam as it is ride from the chef's garden and excellent.

Beutiful location and building and therefore has the potential to be a lovely place to enjoy a meal, if it were not for the attitude of the waiting staff. Apart from a gentleman who appeared to be more manageria, the attitude of the other waiting on staff cast a cloud over our evening.

Our party felt as though we were an inconvenience to the staff which was very disappointing considering it was a special occasion for my mother's 50th. I felt almost compelled to apologise to the waiting on staff for asking them to serve my food and would have felt more comfortable going to the kitchen and serving myself...not what you expect from a hotel with a Michelin star.

Following the meal I had to search around the hotel to find a member if staff to serve us at the bar; all we wanted to do was to enjoy our evening, but sadly the staff quite obviously did not want to be there and therefore should not work in the hospitality trade!!
