We had a rather large (+-60 people) family reunion at Blanco as this was where we holidayed together nearly 40 yrs ago. While there is a somewhat decayed look about the place with lots of maintenance needed, the structure and routine of the place was perfect for a family getaway, and somehow the old worn look grew on us and we personally found it quaint in a way. Structured activities for kids were excellent with a bevy of very enthusiastic staff on hand as child minders, and this made it an excellent and relaxing break for all the parents. Food was pretty basic in quality, and adequate in volume although the service was a little trying at times, but then occupancy was pretty high over the May day weekend. The staff insisted on presenting a menu which offers a choice of starter but nothing else - we couldn't see the point in this. Most mornings found us scrounging the main lodge area for milk and sugar for our morning coffees in our rooms. Highlights were the beautiful walks and stunning Karoo scenery, and the fireplace in the lounge in the evenings. Take in some of the stunning scenery by going on walks, horse-rides, bike rides and drives in the area - I'd forgotten just how stunning the Karoo scenery is!!
