“Superb service, comfortable rooms and delicious food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2011

We stayed here on a group tour of Kent. As part of a package arranged through Best Western this hotel was incredibly good value, but even at full rack rate it would be worth every penny. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the public spaces, especially the restaurant, are light and airy. The spa was a lovely extra, with a pool large enough to swim in, jacuzzi, steam room and saunas (although the decor is a little dated). The food is delicious and plentiful, and the residents' menu is the same as the a la carte, with several good vegetarian options (a couple of the most expensive dishes do carry a supplement). However, the highlight of this hotel is its staff. From the warm yet efficient welcome at check in, through bar and restaurant service, to check out the next morning, the staff were all cheerful, friendly and professional; it felt as if nothing was too much trouble - including a specially decorated table and birthday cake for one of our party. We will definitely visit again, and hope to be able to stay longer next time.

Staff could not be more helpful and friendly, even at 11.00 p.m. when we had to change rooms, having sat on the bed and been poked by the barely covered springs of a mattress so old and lumpy it was like a moon landscape. The sheets were not clean. The decor is pure Fawlty Towers: mustard yellow velour chairs with cushion to match, big blowsy tulip patterns adorning curtains and one wall. Plastic alliums in a vase. Red swirly carpet. Plastic marble-look tiling in the bathroom. Musty smells in the corridors. And scalding hot water (there is a sign but I still burnt my hand) but no heating in the radiators, although the receptionist who showed us to our room turned it on hopefully but nothing happened. We took the 11 p.m. room change in our stride. The room was next door which meant that we had no neighbours for the night which was just as well because when, next morning, the staff came to fix the room that we'd left, we could hear every tap running and every light switch clicking. Breakfast was half good, for example home-made granola and yoghurt--and half terrible--really undrinkable coffee. We had a fun stay anyway and the hotel's period decor and ambiance in no way marred it, but we won't be back. We wondered what this says about the state of the Best Western company as a whole, maybe soon another victim of the recession? If not, they'd better invest here in a big way and fast. Their staff deserve it.

Romantic weekend away with my wife for our 20th wedding aniversary. Did research before and this location stood out above all others. Contacted the hotel and was chuffed at the price. We had a room, dinner and breakfast deal followed by a room, breakfast deal for the weekend. With that came use of the spa facilities. We were upgraded for free to a superior room! happy with that. Well appointed room, No 50, not the best of views (looking inside on the location) and the shower was far below pleasant. Despite this our stay was totally relaxed with polite, unoptrusive staff; prompt and curtious room service. The evening meal was very good - varied and cooked to perfection. Good wine selection and extensive bar choice. Service was not rushed and extra portions were happily given. Spa staff were chatty and very happy to help - great massage, perfectly adequate sauna / steam / jacuzzi / pool. Could easily have stayed poolside ALL day. Breakfast was EXTENSIVE, in a spacious lounge. The venue is far enough from Rye that you feel totally in the counrty yet only a short taxi drive from the beautifull, historic town. The value for money was great - I felt welcomed, special and totally relaxed. I would seriously recommed that you visit this venue.

Room Tip: View room 1st, ask for upgrade.

I have just come back from a wonderful weekend break at the Flackley Ash Hotel. I was part of a group of 5 staying and 3 further joined us for the day on Saturday to use the spa facilities. We were a Hen Party but looking for a nice relaxing weekend with a good spa and good food and we found just that.

This is a wonderful find, although not spangley 5 star, it is a brilliant hotel. Rooms and reception areas were clean and comfy, the food was brilliant and the gardens were stunning. In regards to the food, you rarely find such an extensive menu for all inclusive guests, yet the choice for dinner and for breakfast was amazing.

The spa facilities had everything you need – pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Although not decked out in marble etc, it all worked well and was cleaned regularly and lovely to use. Although not the biggest spa, there was more than enough room for us and another group plus some individuals using the facilities to all do something without getting in each others way.

Whilst there we took advantage of the beauty and spa treatments on offer, and we all enjoyed them very much! The beauty therapists were wonderful, and so nice and friendly – they couldn’t do more to help us enjoy our stay. One of the treatments we had booked had been missed out on the timetable which we thought would be a problem as all time was booked out, however within minutes they had sorted it all.

I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff here for being to helpful, polite (and patient!). The Flackley Ash really is a lovely little English Hotel.

I stayed for 1 night in this hotel. There was plenty of parking available and well lit. Entering reception I did notice that the carpet in the lobby, especially around the enterance to the bar, was quite worn and wonderered if this was a reflection on the rest of the hotel. It definately was not, I was given a very well appointed clean and quite room with a comfy bed and well equipped bathroom. Due to my late arrival I didn't use the gym, or pool but had a look and it looked very nice indeed.
I had my evening meal in the bar and had freshly cooked fish and relaxed afterwards in the residents lounge which had a full size TV and as nobody else was using it at the time had full access to the remote control. The bar itself was small but had a reasonable selection of drinks available.
The breakfast selection was excellent.
If I am working in the area again I would definately try to book a room.

Room Tip: Get there before 9pm to use the leisure facilitie.

We stayed for three nights at the Flackley Ash and we were welcomed from the moment we walked in. Everyone we encountered was happy and friendly and couldn't do enough for us.

The room was spacious, as was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable, the shower always worked (always an advantage!) and the decor was nice.

We had some gorgeous food - they source local produce wherever possible - and it was served with a smile. Breakfast was a real treat with lots of options.

I was extremely fortunate in that my partner paid for me to have some treatments in the spa. If you are there and Pat is on duty, you must book a massage! I have used massage in my work for many years but I am not as good as she is! It was a lovely relaxing experience. Thank you Pat!

Ideally situated, The Flackley Ash is the place to stay if you want to explore the beautiful area - Rye, Tenterden and Hythe to name a few places nearby.

If I had to find fault - and these in no way detracted from our enjoyment - I would prefer cotton sheets (as most middle-aged women will attest!) as they are cooler. Internet no problem but if you want to use your mobile - please stand by the tree at the front of the hotel! They work very well here!
