“Would love to stay again”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

My husband and I stayed for one night on the 18th April as an anniversary treat, we booked into a suite. The room was amazing, the pool area was fabulous, the staff were what you would expect from a first class hotel as was the food. Other reviews say the hotel is dated but it works and I couldn't imagine what else you could do to make it better. My only criticism is that the hotel accepted dogs and we probably wouldn't have booked if we'd known but I am glad we didnt know as it didn't affect our stay but I still think the hotel website needs to be more clear on this. We will definitely return but unfortunately cannot afford a suite again so we are hoping the standard rooms are up to the same quality as the suites.

Dear AshfordMand,

Thank you for taking the time to write the review, I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay.

I will have a look at the website and make it clearer that we do accept dogs, I can assure you that all bedrooms are aired well after we have accommodated a four legged friend.

I do hope to meet you on your next stay with us.

Kind regards

Penny

My lovely Partner booked this as a surprise for my birthday along with a full body massage.
Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful. The food was first class. The hotel needed some updating but was comfortable and clean and would definitely recommend

Visited for a long weekend and took dogs which was great as a big field round back of hotel. Very dog friendly hotel. Hotel generally is a bit dated and needs bringing up to modern times, but most staff are friendly and helpful, although we did come across one who wasn't. The restaurant needs the inspector there to update menus etc as too much wide range and the restaurant is trying to cover everything but not getting it right unfortunately .

Room Tip: If you have dogs ask for a ground floor room with doors opening out to garden

Pretty looking hotel set in lovely grounds with adequate car parking abt 2 miles from Rye & 4 Miles from Camber sands. Take dogs and had a large field for early walks..
Mostly staff very friendly and helpful with exception of one who gave us a half empty latte and said she wd top up with water! on complaining the very helpful receptionist gave us 2 lovely lattee's. Enjoyed stay despite a few problems in restaurant area. I feel menu too extensive and trying to be everything rather than deciding what they are for evening meal, although breakfasts are excellent

Room Tip: If you take dogs , perhaps request a ground floor room with patio doors to garden. we were upstairs...

Following on from a family gathering in Peasmarsh in late March our party of 6 had originally thought that lunch would have to be taken at a local pub, or alternatively, travelling the 3 miles into Rye. Then I remembered the Flackley Ash Hotel a Georgian property (formerly marketed under the Best Western banner), situated at the top of Flackley Ash Hill with its entrance just off the Wittersham road.

Upon arrival we observed that there were many cars parked in the grounds which implied they were very busy and not having reserved a table we were somewhat apprehensive as to availability. However, the pleasant receptionist said they could accommodate us and for the next 45 minutes we enjoyed aperitifs in the comfortable surrounds of the Bar/Lounge area, whilst perusing the menu at our leisure.

An ample selection of dishes were on offer as we made our individual choices and in due course we were shown to our table. The food met our expectations, being well cooked and tasty, of adequate proportions and with top marks for presentation.

Overall, the impression was very satisfactory and for those seeking a degree of comfort in a pleasant setting with a view of the garden it has our recommendation. The standard of service provided was good and pricewise it fell within acceptable parameters.

Firstly, I am so grateful that Flackley Ash was able to accommodate us after being let down by another local hotel at the last minute. The receptionist was an angel. The room was nice, the beds comfy and the breakfast fantastic. However, once my euphoria that we had a bed for the night subsided, I couldn't help thinking how the place might be improved. The decor was OK but felt, well, a bit tired. A bit of advice from an interior designer could do wonders for the place. Other hotels have book shelves, games, magazines and other stuff on display to add character. The only real gripe was dinner. I echo a previous reviewer: £8.50 for 5 small prawns on an oil soaked muffin? £22.50 for a slap of fish with some potato on top? This is proper rip-off territory. If you are going to charge these prices, hire a chef who can cook. The Bell at Iden isn't far away, it's child-friendly and the food is excellent. All in all, though, still really glad we went there, but regretting the money we sepnt on dinner.

It looks very nice when you pull up in the car park. Upon entry you can see it well past it's sell by date. The rooms are tired, the furniture near knackered.
No hot water for showers, not once but twice. And when I asked the reception why, she replied "It is because everyone must be showering at the same time". At 10.30 in the morning. I don't think so!
We decided to go for a walk in the glorious grounds, only to be greeted by a mountain of rotting mattresses and scattered broken tables and chairs.
The food was ok and most of the staff were competent with the exception of the reception.
