“Very good!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2011

The hotel was on the west end of the busy touristy strip area, so it was in a quieter location that we liked. We requested the lake view, but it turns out it was partially blocked by a building. It was still nice because we could see the sky changing colors at sunset, and it was rather quiet which was surprising because the main road can be seen from the room.
The room was large, and had a microwave and mini-fridge as well as a coffee maker. We also had a small balcony which was nice. The full bathroom had its own room, with an additional sink outside in the hallway to the closet. There was also a small sink next to the microwave and min-fridge in the room.
Parking was free in their lots. The entry door to our building had a room key swiper to unlock the door--but t was broken, so the door was never locked. I was a little uneasy about that but when we mentioned it they told us a new one had been ordered. The room key was required to get into the other side of the building and into the pool area.
The pool and hot tub were awesome! We used them at night, and both were heated nicely and not very crowded.
There was no complimentary breakfast but that may have been typical in the high-traffic area in which we were staying. We chose the hotel based on reviews and price, as the other ones seemed excessively high just for a hotel.
There were plenty of restaurants around, many within walking distance. The lake was just across the street. Beds were comfortable...but the pillows were the worst, hardest, most awful pillows we've ever used! Free Wi-Fi, worked well.
We asked for late check out (so that we could go to mass) the night before, and were told that they weren't sure if they could accommodate us with our request because it would depend on the cleaning staff who showed up for their shifts in the morning. All we were asking for was about an hour, and the hotel booklet in our room mentioned the possibility of late check out...so we were surprised by the answer. We were told to call the front desk in the morning. They did offer to keep our luggage for us and let us use the changing room near the pool if we needed, but we were hoping to be able to return to our room after mass, microwave our leftovers to eat, and brush our teeth and clean up before hitting the road. All in all they were able to accommodate our request, but it seemed like it shouldn't be a problem as the hotel certainly was not fully booked when we were there and it was unlikely that it would be the next day...and we were only asking for an hour after reading the hotel booklet. However, all of the front desk staff were very helpful, and also offered to mail a letter for us when we could not find a post office (the one on the map provided by the hotel had closed a few months prior). They also helped us with restaurant, church, and sightseeing suggestions, and they had coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby as well as a binder with tourist information.

Room Tip: Even though it was a partial lake view, it was worth it (maybe there are full views)

Thank you for your very good headline and exceptional review. The level of detail will no doubt be very helpful to readers. Sorry about the hard pillows. We have to do a better job of identifying hard and soft pillow choices. The criteria we use in granting late check-outs is as long as it does not inconvience the next arriving guest. Once again we will work to do a better job in handling requests of this nature.
Best Regards,
Dan

We stayed here for 3 nights in a double queen-bed room, room was too small to put two beds.
Worst thing is that water was leaking from the ceiling, close to the air conditioner. Luckily it was not right above the bed, otherwise we would have slept in a socked bed. It was very difficult to keep our 10 month old daughter away from the wet area of the carpet.
Only plus is that you can see the lake from your room if you take a lake-view room, but the balcony was too small and you can hardly stretch your leg while sitting there.
Overall, not worth for the price and we will never be back here.

We sincerely regret that you did not enjoy your stay with us. Please accept our apologies for the apparent condensation dripping from the fan coil unit in your room. We experienced a few unusual humid days. We log everything and have a record of the guest in room 204 reporting this problem at the time of check out. Since this is the only notation we have of this nature we assume this was your room and have applied a refund of one nights room charges against your credit card. We hope you will accept this gesture in the spirit in which it is being conveyed.

Note to readers. Every ones perception is different and important. Our lake view double queens measure 325 sq. ft. This is considered large by hotel standards but not as huge as our 500 sq. ft. Great Rooms located in our pool bldg. Balconies in our lake building measure 4’ by 10’ and accommodate 2 chairs and a small side table. This is a great space for morning coffee for two and/or a glass of wine at sunset.

This was our 4th time staying at this Inn. Always clean and well kept. Staff friendly and very helpful, and can get discounts on things like a lake cruise. Only shortcoming would be a lack of a continental breakfast or something similar. No snacks either, both of which make this place a bit pricey, though the lake view is likely what one is paying for. Pool and tub cleaned daily.

Great comments. Thank you so much.
When we leased out our restaurant building, we opted to offer a full sit down breakfast rather than a free continental. Consider our bed and breakfast package for an excellent value.

Dan

We stayed at the Inn by the lake for a few days and loved the location. There were road improvements outside but the hotel staff did their best to minimize the disruption in any way they could (providing ear plugs, if required)
The hotel is not new but appears to have been recently decorated and upgraded, very tastefully leaving the old character in place. The room was spotlessly clean.
The room we had overlooked the lake and hotel pool, a great view!

Room Tip: The room over looking the lake also over look the pool which has a hot tub that is open until 11, qu...

Thank you, we love our lake view mid-town location. While it has been quite near the Inn lately, Caltrans is continuing its Trout Creek to Ski Run Blvd. enhancement project of new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, landscaping and streetlights. The results will be fantastic and enhance the bike paths and ADA access throughout mid-town.
Best Regards,
Dan

We stayed here over July 4th weekend for 4 nights. We arrived a little early, but the desk staff was awesome and check-in lasted about 1 minute.

The hotel rooms are small and outdated, but the bed was comfortable and we were well rested our whole trip. The bathroom was big (about 75% the size of the room), with a noisy fan that we used to drowned out the noise of some July 4th party people.

Our room faced the parking lot. Not a big deal for us because we were only in the room for a short time each night and morning. I could see how this might bother some people.

Overall, we had a good time on vacation and REALLY ENJOYED the weather in South Lake Tahoe. If you don't mind a little older hotel with nothing super fancy then I would recommend Inn by the Lake.

Room Tip: DO NOT leave food out. Ants. The Cafe next door is great. Also, if you are not a people person do...

Your comments are very much appreciate by me and I am sure our readers. Can't help but get a kick out of the fact that older buildings in Europe are charming and anything in the US over 20 years is outdated. Yes the Inn is "dated" specifically 1982 which makes it one of the newest hotels in the Tahoe Basin. In addition to having great guests we have great owners who allow us to reinvest cash flow right back into the Inn. Glad you enjoyed our fantastic weather and thank you for your recommendation.
Best Regards,
Dan
