Stayed here based on price on Hotels.com, but booked through hotel directly for an even better rate. Not a good start when we were told reservation had been cancelled by us, but no issues since other availability and same rate. Inn is very dated but clean. Rooms are comfortable and spacey. Front office staff friendly and location is central to most Tahoe activities.

Stayed only one but wish it had been more. Nice location - able to walk on the beach in the morning. The balcony was a perfect place for a glass of wine while watching the sun go down. The room was great - bed was very comfy. If it is "dated" as some other reviewers have said - it wasn't a big deal. Very clean and well-appointed. Wifi was strong and consistent.

There is a bus stop not far from the hotel where we were able to get into Stateline without worrying about parking (daughter was participating in the 100 mile biking trip around the Lake and we wanted to be at the finish line).

All in all - a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a "Lake View"

Your very constructive comments will no doubt be helpful to readers. You captured the essence of Inn by the Lake. Incidentally, the Inn does date back to 1982 which accounts for our prime location directly across the street from the lake. The barriers to entry are quite high in the Tahoe Basin. Thus, there are but a few lodging properties in South Lake Tahoe newer that our INN.

Dan

I booked this trip over a month ago and when I made the reservations I made it seem like the full amount was taken out but when I was checking in they said that I had to pay for one more night. I almost didnt have the money to cover the other night. I guess I should have checked to see how much was taken off my card but they shouldn't have made it seem like the full amount was going to be taken off my card. Other then that it was an ok stay besides the fact that the toilet was running constantly.

We were here on a Groupon trip and it was worth every penny! I would snatch that deal again in a second! 2 nights, 2 breakfasts/person each day, 2 games of bowling!

We were in the building overlooking the pool and hot tub but we still have a beautiful view of the lake from the room. So happy that the rooms were VERY clean, although a tad retro (only reason my rating isn't "excellent"). Their hot tub and the room were HUGE (Love it!). We ski and need a lot of room to put our gear. Love the small kitchenette, perfect for keeping leftovers cold and heating them back up. The bed was comfy too!! Every time we went to the desk with a question they were so kind an and enthused to help us. We'll be back for sure!

Delighted you enjoyed your stay during our spring shoulder (value season) period. Our owners are great and allow us to plow back into the property the bulk of the cash flow we generate. We kinda like our retro feel and focus our expenditures on guest comfort, facilities, amenities and grounds. Check out our Tahoe Bowl for a real retro experience. Opened in 1959 we have carefully restored this 16 lane full service Family Fun Center at a cost of over $550,000. Although it is fully automated you still have to throw that ball down the center of the lane just like in the old days!

Dan

Seems like a bit tag worn. Just an average 2.75 stars hotel, really. I didn't go to the hot tub, so I can't judge that, but my room was in a different building and who wants to go outside in cold weather with a wet bathing suit? No breakfast for the $$$. Good beds/linens. You will get rest here. Don't bother with getting a good view of the Lake from your hotel because the highway is between the hotel and the lake and you just get the noise from the road all night. Had problems with the room and helped was immediate.

We certainly regret that you were disappointed with your recent stay and wish to apologize. We have a variety of room types available at different price points located in our two guestroom buildings. Photos and detailed descriptions are available on our website. Prior to opening our restaurant we did offer a continental breakfast. However, the majority of guest comments called for a full array of breakfast options. We aim to please and feel bad when we fall short. Thanks for sharing.

Dan

After having read many of the reviews claiming this property is "dated", I was expecting far less than what we actually received. Inn by the Lake is not a Grand Resort and Spa, so if that is what you are expecting, go elsewhere...It is on the other hand, clean and comfortable and reasonably priced given the area. It is right across the street from the lake, which is beautiful (you do have to look beyond the road because it does run between the hotel and the lake). I enjoyed the noise from the cars because I do not like silence at night. The room came with a fridge and microwave (which I wish I would have realized before we came up or I would have packed additional snacks). The room was "up-to-date" as far as linens go. Was the furniture a smidge dated, yes...but it is not enough so to call the entire hotel "dated". Overall, this was a great trip for my family. Places like Inn by the Lake make it possible to go on long weekend family trips without it costing an arm and a leg! I would definitely recommend staying and will more than likely be going back.

P.S. You MUST try MacDuffs Public House which was about 100 yards from our room. DELICIOUS!

We stayed here for a wedding along with the rest of the wedding guest. It was definitely a step up from some of the other places we've stayed in Tahoe! The room was very big and spacious! It was clean and bed was comfy! The small balconies were a nice feature especially since the weather was so beautiful in March! The only reason I gave a 4 rather than 5 is we were the only guests from the wedding that got stuck on the other side of the hotel away from our friends with a view of the trailer park rather than the lake! Lol! The location was ok but you'll have to cab it to the strip if you're going out/back. I think we would definitely consider another stay here!

Thank you for your kind comments. Lake view units, while they cost a bit more, can be reserved in advance. Let me know prior to your next visit and we would be happy to upgrade your reservation.
