“Avoid this Resort - It is a ripoff.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2009

Stayed in 3/2 lakefront townhouse for two nights in Oct. 2009

Safety and Security
- rear sliding glass door did not lock (latch broken and even if the latch were not broken the type of latch used did not appear very strong). As an accommodation(fix) to the poor latch a thin aluminum pry bar has been installed. Needless to say, we did not feel safe leaving our possessions inside the room while we traveled around town.
- inside door (this is a door after the card reader door) did not close properly
- the wiring for the gas fireplace remote control unit seemed unprofessional with contact connections barely insulated with electrical tape.
- no pot holders for use when removing baking pans (had to use a kitchen towel instead)
- tea kettle provided was poorly designed (shaped like a canteen):
- position of the spout lever is such that the steam from the kettle contents could scald you
- when you did manage to pivot the spout cover, the hot water ran down the spout on to the counter

Cleanliness
- rear porch had trash (macaroni and cheese leftovers on the deck)
- graffiti on roof of loft
- heating vents on the floors were bent and dirty
- several of the supplied portable fans were dirty and caked with debris. One fan had a cracked blade and did not function.
- several of the closets had maintenance supplies paint cans, caulk and caulking tools, cement trowel, and rags
- downstairs bathroom light and fan are attached on one side only so the unit slants down a couple of inches
- one spoon had an accident with a garbage disposal and should be replaced.

Inconvenience
- most of the lamps are not plugged into switched outlets so you must turn the lamps on by hand, which can be tricky if the room is dark.
- there are no overhead lights in the bed rooms
- one of the vcr/dvd players was connected to a switched outlet and will turn the dvd player on or off if you are not careful
- a couple of the electronics/appliances were unplugged: fireplace control, bedside clocks (closest outlet was behind the queen bed)
- the video settings (some custom blend from a previous guest perhaps) to the tv were awful (could they at least be set back to the factory defaults before the next guest arrives)
- high speed internet costs $9.99 /day . Not unusual, but I expected more for $389/night room
- I was charged $0.75 for a single local phone call (local calls should be free. esp. given the room cost)
- pier on the beach was closed when we were there.
- lack of a street signal near this resort makes turning left nearly impossible when the traffic is heavy on lake tahoe blvd.

Miscellaneous
- couches and chairs were old and cushioning insufficient in some spots. A couple of times I sat right down onto the couches internal frame.
- the coffee table was too high to put feet up (given there are no ottomans for such)
- many of the cabinet doors do not close properly

Positives
- great access to beach
- view from deck and living room is really nice, not the best because of the shore location, but better than most.
- a couple of the included fans were clean and useable.
- towels, sheets, blankets were clean

Thank you for your valuable feedback. Please accept my apologies for the issues you described during your recent visit. Though our lakefront units such as the one in which you stayed in are spectacular and receive rave reviews, we certainly did not meet these expectations with your visit. I have already spoken to our staff and we have remedied all of the areas you described in your review. Again, my sincere apologies for your stay's challenges. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally at jerry.bindel@astonhotels.com if I can be of any assistance to you in the future or if you would like to revisit Lakeland Village.
Thank you.

I cannot say enough bad things about our recent experience here. Not only did we have one of the loud, out-dated rooms in the lodge like other reviewers mentioned - but we had a bat fly right in our room through through the screen door we had just opened. The room did not look very clean and the swimming pool was cold and filthy! The staff was extremely rude and unhelpful. But the topper was the phone call my granddaughter received at our home 2 days after our stay. She was told by a Lakeland Village staff member that our credit card was being charged $200 because the housekeeping staff reported 4 pillows and a comforter were missing from our room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We contacted them immediately and told them how appalled we were. We were assured by Jennifer and later (2 times) by the manager, Jeff, that the charges would be credited back to our account. It's now a week later and no credits have been processed. WARNING- DON'T TAKE A CHANCE WITH YOUR CHARGE/DEBIT CARD HERE!!

The resort itself is very nice, with a beach on the lake, pool, and large rooms. However, we rented a one bedroom unit in the Lodge, and will never do that again because of the noise. The room faced the road (the main road through South Lake Tahoe) and the traffic noise was extremely loud. Plus, we were on the first floor, and the noise from the person above us was so loud it woke us up from a deep sleep. It wasn't that the person was being loud...it was that the wood construction of the building magnified the steps, doors opening, etc. We travel a lot and have stayed in many hotels, and this by far was the worst in the way of noise from people above you.

Top that off with the maintenance staff who went through the hallway at around 6:30am with their walkie talkies blaring, not to mention other rude guests talking loudly in the hallway, and it made for a very unrestful stay.

We have stayed here before in a one bedroom loft, and it was fine because there was no one above us (we were on the top floor), and it faced away from the road. But we will never, ever book another room on a lower floor in the Lodge part of this resort, or one that faces the highway. If you are looking for a one bedroom only, and the hotel cannot guarantee that you won't face the road or have someone above you, book somewhere else if noise is an issue for you.

The larger units (2 bedroom and above) are in separate, smaller condo-type buildings, and are fine. It is only the smaller rooms in the Lodge that face the road and have noise issues.

Otherwise, we really like the resort. It is older and the rooms could use some renovations (the carpet made my socks black, but that's unfortunately not that unusual for a hotel), but having a mini-kitchen and separate living room are a real plus. We will definitely return here again, assuming we can get a guarantee for a room that doesn't face the road and is on the top floor.

Great location, its own beach, shuttle service, near resturants and a great Safeway market. Really nice folks that have great attitudes.
Townhome was very nice, 2 bedrooms with a loft, good well-equiped kitchen, big screen TV in living room. Every place looked different, all privately owned I was told.
Parking lot nearby had some loud folks that were having lots of fun later than I would like. I think security took care of them and sent them home.
On the way to the beach pool I followed a family that had just driven in from the street with a bunch of stuff that ehy took to the beach. I guess it is a public beach and pool?
You can't beat the location and there are some really nice units to stay in.

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2009

My family (two adults, two teenagers, one tween) spent one night at the Lakeland Village in August of 2009. Check-in went okay, though the kid working the counter wasn't as pleasant as he could have been. Our condo (#522) seemed nice enough at first -- not fancy and certainly not fresh or new, but nice-sized: two bedrooms, a full bath and a half bath at entry level; a kitchen and living room area on the next floor up; and a loft above that with two sets of bunk beds. Everything seemed pretty clean. But the problems came when night fell. First of all, there were nowhere near enough lamps to keep the main floor reasonably lit, and half of the ones that were there didn't work. The ones that did were equipped with bulbs so weak that you could barely read a book when seated directly next to one.

Then came the mice, one of which we actually found on the dining table.

Then there were the bunk bed mattresses, which were literally bowl-shaped -- I'm amazed that my sons got any sleep at all on them.

When I checked out, I was prepared to tell the desk staff about these problems, but since they never asked how my stay had been I decided to just write a review instead. (I did mention the mouse problem -- the person at the desk seemed neither surprised nor interested, so if you're planning to stay there in the future, make sure your shots are up to date and your immune system is strong enough to take a dose of hanta virus.)

All in all, I feel like we were taken advantage of by a facility that has no interest in the comfort (or even health) of its customers. Not recommended.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2009

After having such an amazing stay at Lakeland in April we set up three more nights in July and brought the entire family along. We had 10 adults and 4 kids and were able to sleep in a 5 BR unit with a loft on the beach. To those who were not with us last time, they were very impressed with the accomodations, the beauty and the proximity to the beach. I can't think of a place I'd rather be in the summer than setting on the deck at our unit while watching the kids play in the lake and at the beach and relaxing with family. Another magical stay to add to our wonderfaul experiences at Lakeland Village!

We rented a one-bedroom Pinegrove Townhome, but got upgraded to a two bedroom. Such a good value compared with hotels and such in the area. A bit back away from the beach, but we enjoyed being in the pine trees.
