“Good view but old and noisy....”
Reviewed 30 May 2008

The location is perfect! it has a wonderful view of the lake, but the place is very old and it seems that they have not renewed anything since they opened it. So far is the oldest hotel in the area. It is imposible to sleep because you can hear the people on the upper bedroom walking at nights or the nextdoor neighbor's T.V. This hotel should be sold and rebuilted...ps: Go and look for breakfast outside!!

I took my husband this last weekend to Tahoe and Reno for Memorial Day. The weather was very cold and it even snowed a few times, but being from Tucson, Arizona we enjoyed it. The Lodge was very old and the carpets need to be replaced, however the view was wonderful and it was close to every thing. We stayed on the 3rd floor and didn't have any noise issues. We don't think we would chose to stay there again considering there are some any different options near by. We skipped the breakfast because it was very limited and walked to Heidi's right in front of the lodge (pricey but good food and great service.) We stopped at safeway on our way in and filled up the frig, saved money and enjoyed the food. We took a great fishing trip with Captin Dan and Captin Zack through the Tahoe Sports Fishing Co. and had a wonderful time. We went about 2 miles south of the lodge to the outlets and gots some new shoes for a great price. Then we went to the Grand Sierra Resort and stay in The Summit Rooms in Reno and really enjoyed our visit.

My husband and I stayed at Lakeshore Lodge for 3 nights during the second weekend in May 2008. Having read the reviews prior to making reservations, I felt comfortable with the minor shortcomings of the hotel in exchange for a lakefront location with a gorgeous view. We found a great rate on Orbitz for $99 per night.

It was so relaxing to enjoy the view from the balcony (a couple of pillows cushion the chairs), and breathe in the fresh mountain air. The pool and hot tub were also enjoyable, a good way to unwind at the end of a day's driving. The sunsets over the lake were breathtaking! The place is within walking distance to several restaurants, drug store, grocery store, and souvenir shops.

We were on the second floor and didn't have any problem with noise from other guests. The front desk staff were friendly and very helpful with sightseeing tips, restaurant recommendations, and requests for extra pillows. (There is a restaurant menu guide at the desk to help you decide where to eat).

Not having air conditioning was not a problem even though it was warm (around 80 degrees) since the humidity is fairly low. There was an oscillating fan provided in case we wanted a breeze, but most of the time we just left the balcony door open (which was screened).

On the downside, the hotel really needs new carpeting and bathroom fixtures. But since we paid a good rate, we were not expecting the Ritz. The only other uncomfortable issues were the bed location and the toilet.

We had a room with 2 queen beds (with comfortable mattress), where there was only about 4 inches clearance from the wall on one side (making a trip to the bathroom difficult in the middle of the night). Surely the King room would have more space. And in the bathroom, the toilet was fairly low and so close to the wall that the toilet roll doubled as an armrest. And we were hoping for a minifridge, but settled for using our cooler instead.

But even with those challenges, we felt that it was a great place to stay for the price, and found it very relaxing with a beautiful view. We would certainly recommend it as long as you are aware of the tradeoffs and are willing to accept the shortcomings.

  • Liked — The gorgeous view!
  • Disliked — The toilet is too close to the wall

I choose Lakeshore Lodge because I didn’t want the casino scene and I was looking for a hotel with a view. Lakeshore Lodge provided me with my two requirements!
I stayed for four nights and the staff graciously up-graded me to a 4th story room with a kitchenette and wonderful lake view. The hotel is right on the shore of Lake Tahoe, not across the busy street. Here's how close you are to the lake; hotel building, swimming pool, shore of the lake to take meandering walks, and then the lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
Have I stayed in cleaner and more well-appointed rooms in my hotel past? Yes. But somehow the quaint 70s kitchen, rough-hewn log furniture, the black gas fireplace/stove with the flickering flames and the pink bathroom fixtures were compatible with the ambience of the lake. The best part was opening the drape of the huge sliding glass door and seeing what the lake was doing that morning. One morning we opened the drape and saw a car puttering about the lake as a boat! It was an amusing sight!
I found the bed to be comfortable however the pillows are very flat. Ask for more pillows so you can pile them up. When traveling, I always sleep with ear plugs so the noise level didn’t bother me. During the day, I could hear the people in the next room talking through the adjoining room door. No biggie, it’s not like you’re paying a fortune for the room. . .I think it’s reasonably priced.
In the morning we had continental breakfast choices of various fresh fruit, muffins, danish, juice and coffee.
A worthwhile side trip is driving to Emerald Bay. We were at Lake Tahoe in April so the Vikingsholm trail and tour were not open. The view was stunning of the bay with a tiny dot of an island in the middle.

  • Liked — Gorgeous view. . .old Tahoe ambience
  • Disliked — Flat pillows

Hard to beat this 170 deg view on beach from So. Lake Tahoe, views from Tallac on west to Round Hill on Nevada side. Rooms are old with decent cosmetic updates. Nice gas Franklin stove warms large room well. Biggest drawback is the poor noise insulation from floor above.

Right on the lake! Amazing views!!! Private beach and pool. Walking distance to everything. Stayed in beautifully remodeled condo, unit 229. Charming and very comfortable. Had everything we needed. Was a perfect place to take kids. Beach right there made it so easy and fun. We even took advantage of the bbq's on the beach. A fun place to meet other people. Front desk staff was super friendly. Can't wait to go back during the winter to try out the fireplace. I imagine the view with snow is even more breathtaking!

don't expect to sleep. the beds are hard as sleeping on a rock. the view is beautiful and the service is friendly, just don't expect to sleep, we had booked two nights and couldn't wait to leave, if they replace the beds, this could be a great place to say.
