“Loved this Hotel and vacation”
Reviewed 6 October 2008

We arrived at the Lakeshore Lodge on a beautiful Saturday on Sept. 13, 2008. There were no problems and were able to check in early. The room was on the top floor, 403 and the only thing I would want anyone to know is the walls are pretty thin. We had no complaints as it was very quiet but were advised through this site to pick a top floor room. The hotel is located within walking distance of a Longs Drug Store and across the street is a Safeway Grocery Store. What more could you ask for? There are plenty of things to do and the front desk can fill you in on that. We are not skiers so this was the perfect time to go for us. The view from our room was amazing and were able to leave the curtains open to see the mountains from morning to night. We will definitely come back. Thanks to Blanca for making our stay the best! Very nice location on the beach. The young woman at the front desk was very nice and helpful. Every room has a lake view, although because the hotel is L-shaped, it appears the views are better from some rooms than others. As the photo shows, the building has a wing that goes toward the beach, so a couple of rooms have an view looking more down the beach than at the lake. Our room was on the third floor just before that wing so we had a nice view of the lake but the wing cut off our view of the September sunset. So, we went down to the beach, where the hotel provided chairs. The hotel has an elevator, so getting the luggage up to the room wasn't bad. The room was furnished with sort of a national park lodge decor, which their website shows well. Nice semi-private balcony with a couple chairs. The beds are queen only and were reasonably comfortable, but the pillows were old and quite thin. There is a gas stove in the room for heat (not needed during our stay). There is no A/C, and it was rather warm our first night, but we found an electric fan in the closet. Between the fan and the slightly open balcony door, we were fine. It gets quite cool at night (near freezing in early September) so the room cooled off nicely. The bathroom was functional--nothing special. My wife and I were both happy with our choice. It's hard to beat the view!

We began our one week, first ever vist to Lake Tahoe at Lakeland Village. We moved to Lakeshore Lodge because this unit was on the sand. This unit looked like it was just remodeled. The furnishings looked newer and definitely upscale. This is a one bedroom unit, which is privately owned and decorated. The sofa and chair were plush, the flat screen tv was a treat. The kitchen is upgraded with tile granite countertops and new appliances, which was clean and free of leftover food products, found in other vacation rentals we have been in. The bathroom was large and nicely decorated. All windows have beautiful lake views. Sit on the private deck and watch the lake and sand traffic. Very relaxing! We did tour other rooms, kindly allowed by the front desk clerk. Yes, other units seem to be dated, but the units we saw were in good condition. Unit #134 was definitely superior to any other unit we looked at. However, when making reservations you cannot reserve a particular unit. You can request this unit only when you check in. Too bad! I'm not sure I'd take the chance of getting another unit. Lake Tahoe is so beautiful, and surprisingly not overly crowded. There is so much to see, including smaller lakes such as Fallen Leaf lake and Echo lake - all with a big "wow" factor! The cool summer weather and chilly summer nights are a bonus! Don't tell anyone. Let's just keep it between us!

I could not believe what a dump this was. The only good thing was the view but it is not worth staying in this place. The rooms are old and outdate. The beds are hard. The bathroom was so small the door would hit the toilet when you opened it. Only a shower no tub. When out on the balcony there were spiders everywhere so had to make me wonder how many were also inside the hotel. HATED IT. STAY AWAY NOT WORTH IT.

I have never spent as much as I did on this room. At $187 inc tax I got a corner suite with a kitchenette. I was told this was the least expensive room and that I was upgraded for free because it was out of season on a weekday late in the afternoon. Staff was very friendly.

The room is homey with pine furniture and rustic decor. The room boasts a VCR and DVD player, sofa, coffee table, cable TV, full size fridge, microwave, kitchen sink, toaster, stove, oven and fireplace. Downstairs rooms share the patio with everyone else, upstairs rooms have a private patio with nicer patio furniture. Downstairs you walk out the sliding glass door onto the patio, onto the beach and into the bird poo, everywhere, tons of it. No romantic walks on the beack barefoot here, wear boots.

The room and kitchen was noticeably old. The furnishings were rustic and in good condition. The comforter had holes in it. The bathroom was tiny. The windows were old and anyone could slide them open from the outside. No AC. Breakfast looked icky so I opted to drive to the grocery store and buy some stuff to make breakfast with in our kitchenette. ;)

I had a similar room in San Diego for about $95 a night and even in Tahoe I wouldn't expect to pay more than about $130 a night for this room. You pay to be on the water, you pay to open those drapes in the morning and see the water. You can see the lake from almost anywhere, so read the reviews here and find a cheaper room, half the price 2 blocks from the water.

Unfortunately I didn't check TripAdvisor before booking and staying at this hotel. The hotel is old- and has not been updated in a very long time (maybe never). It was built in the 60s. Well to be honest the shower was remodeled. The view is beautiful, but you can see the lake from just about anywhere and it's not worth staying in a hotel for $180 per nite just for the view. We stayed on the third floor. The screen door was bent and didn't close properly. The sink drain was clogged. The hairdryer didn't work. The room did not look clean. Maybe because the carpeting was old. The terrace decking looked like it needed to be replaced. I doubt that it was ever cleaned. It looked like it was the oldest hotel (motel) on the road. We loved Lake Tahoe, but would never return to this place.
The best part of our stay was the staff . They were very friendly and helpful.
By the way if you're interested in a great place for breakfast- try Heidi's.It's only open from 7Am-2PM. It's located in the shopping center in front of the Lodge. We almost didn't go there because we thought it was connected with the Lodge. Fortunately we gave it a try and was very pleasantly surprised.

The location is perfect! it has a wonderful view of the lake, but the place is very old and it seems that they have not renewed anything since they opened it. So far is the oldest hotel in the area. It is imposible to sleep because you can hear the people on the upper bedroom walking at nights or the nextdoor neighbor's T.V. This hotel should be sold and rebuilted...ps: Go and look for breakfast outside!!
