“Chill out in a cosy luxury condo”
Reviewed 18 August 2010

We stayed two nights in condo #134 which we knew (thanks to Tripadvisor) to be the one to take. This was also what we were told at the check-in desk (friendly!) when we arrived around sunset, and we were lucky that it was available. It proved correct: what a great stay we had. Condo #134 is a ground-level apartment in a building containing 8 units. It is located on the far east side of the hotel premises and borders the first bungalow of the adjacent Lakeland Village: your neighbours are quite close but this does not disturb at all. A good thing about the Lakeshore Lodge in general is that is is off the highway and you hear no traffic (at least we did not).

The apartment is decorated in a modern yet cosy fashion. It has a modern kitchen with a huge fridge, flatscreen tv (which we did not use), comfortable sofa and a wood stove in the living room (also not used). A nicely decorated bathroom with good shower, and a separate bedroom with a comfortable bed. The bedroom has three windows looking out on the beach that can be obscured by blinds. The living room opens up onto a private wooden terrace (porch) with a small table and two chairs. Because it is covered by the terrace of the room upstairs you can also sit outside in case of rain. The upper level condo's do not have this useful feature. From the terrace you can walk right onto the beach and to the water.

The stay was great. When we arrived the sun and clouds offered a breathtaking sunset spectacle and I even had to interrupt the check-in formalities to go outside and capture it on the camera ;-) That night we unexpectedly enjoyed Elton John performing live (in Stateline), as we could clearly hear him and his band whilst sitting on the terrace! Next morning there were threatening thunderstorm clouds over South Lake Tahoe so we could not enjoy the private beach but we drove to Emerald Bay where we spent the whole afternoon in the sun. The small kitchen enabled us to make dinner; the ingredients can be bought at a Safeway that is conveniently located almost on the other side of the highway. Enjoying dinner with a good bottle of wine during sunset, peering out to the silhouttes of the mountains and the lake was one of the highlights of our California trip. And falling asleep to the sound and rhythm of the small waves was unforgettable too... The price we paid is rather high (but more in line with the luxury we enjoyed in #134 whilst it might not be the case for other condo's - you pay the same price and you do not know beforehand which condo will be assigned to you). However the experience we had made it all worthwile and make you quickly forget about the financials ;-)

While 134 seems to be favorite amongst Trip Advisor reviewers it is not always available. Do not fear, our other beachfront condos are just as cute and cozy. Sounds like your visit with us and Lake Tahoe was a success and we are so glad that we had something to do with it. Thanks for letting others know about your visit with us.

This is a very romantic spot. Keep in mind this is a 2 1/2 star hotel, so with that I gave it 4 stars out of 5 only because it would have been nice to have a mini frig in room. It is rated correctly and what makes this place so wonderful is the location of being on the beach. If you are looking for a clean spot to stay with the most amazing view then this is the place.

The beach was so beautiful and clean. We loved it! There is juice/coffee and muffins offered until 10 am, but I didn't try any. Coffee and hot chocolate are offered all day. Each room either has a balcony or patio. I would have loved a balcony but the last room available was on the bottom floor in the corner and it was perfect. Each pation/balcony is provided with 2 chairs and a small table. Enjoyed wine on the patio in the evening wrapped in a blanket and breakfast in the morning. It was breath taking. We even slept with the patio sliding door open to get the fresh air. It was perfect.

This hotel doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some other ones do, but the location was great. You just walk out of your room and there is a small patch of grass (very small) and then you on the beach.

Some people walking by in the morning were coming from Starbucks. Apparently, there is one close by and what a great relaxing way to get there.

We walked on the beach at night and early in the morning and wow! What a way to start your day or end your evening. Would not have had that experience without being right on the beach.

Drove over to Zephyr Cove and it was so pretty. Will definitely go back for a day trip and check it out.

Free wi-fi was great too. Any questions, please ask!

Wine on the patio or balcony in the evening at Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge is romantic! We are glad you have discovered our little Tahoe getaway. Next time come on a Thursday during the summer and enjoy free music on the beach too!

After searching a number of hotels in the South Lake Tahoe area, we decided on the Lakeshore Lodge & Spa primarily because the website indicated every room has a view of the lake. You do have a beautiful view of the lake but in comparison with other surrounding hotels we visited, the hotel itself was not nearly as nice for the same price. The carpet on the lobby stairs was very dirty, the elevator was not in good shape, and the carpet outside the rooms on the second floor needed repair, too. Our room was clean, spacious and the beds comfortable. The kitchen had all the appliances although they looked like they had come from a garage sale. All in all, it's a great location but I'd recommend it for spring breakers not someone who is looking for a reasonably updated, well-maintained hotel.

Yes, some other nearby hotels may be more modern and up to date but they do not have the private beach and full lake views that we do. August is our busiest month so we are usually not able to do any major carpet cleaning unit things slow down so we apologize for the appearance of the carpets. While the outside appearance of the hotel may not wow you, we do hope your room and the view will. Please give us another try next year to see what we have cleaned and updated!

Last time I stayed in South Lake Tahoe was a few years ago with a friend and we stayed in a hotel at Stateline, which was fine: convenient for the casinos, gondola and nightlife, but a bit devoid of charm. This time I was returning with my mum - her first visit to Lake Tahoe, so wanted to stay somewhere that we could appreciate the natural surroundings.
I read the reviews on here with interest before booking my trip: quite a mixed bag I thought. Seems to me that there are a whole lot of people out there who expect to get a luxury 5 star hotel whatever money they pay. Well the Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge certanly isn't a 5 star luxury property, but nor does it claim to be, and nor does it charge those sort of prices!

Our primary reason to come to the area was for skiing and we found the Lakeshore Lodge to be an excellent base for us. The complimentary breakfast is a nice touch - sure, it's basic, but muffins, pastries, fresh fruit, juice, tea and coffee were all available and definitely saved us a few dollars. In the wee lounge there's also a free computer terminal for guests who didn't bring their own laptops: Really useful. The free ski shuttle picked us up right outside the front door in the morning and we could have arranged a pick up to go ski Sierra at Tahoe from here as well (we opted to drive instead, but the option was there).

Our room was one of the corner kitchen rooms - with a panoramic lakeview. Wow! The sunrise and sunset views are incredible! Inside the room we had loads of space - 2 big pine beds, a gas potbelly stove, table and chairs and a surprisingly well equipped kitchen. Having read some comments about the kitchen facilities of lodge rooms it's fair to say that my expectations were not too high, so to find a hob, oven, microwave and fridge freezer, as well as all the tools we needed to use them, was a real bonus. The only negative thing was the lighting levels in the bathroom. With the shower curtain pulled across it was like showering in the dark, but this is by no means the first hotel I've some across that has this problem.

Local amenites included a large Safeway supermarket about 5 minutes walk from the Lodge, as well as a pharmacy which doubles as a liquor store (woudn't get that in the UK!). There's also a few restaurants and takeaway food outlets in the immediate vicinity.

We are active people who like to walk so we headed off to Stateline one evening, It's not too far a walk (maybe half an hour?) but like so many places in the USA the pavements are not really used for walking and are not lit up at night. It's a really busy road and so it was quite scary. Advice... if you're going out after dark, take your car or take a cab!

Overall I was really impressed with the Takeshore Lodge and Spa. If you're looking for great views and a quiet location with good amenities close by then it absolutely performs. However, if you plan to go out every night to the Stateline area then it's probably better to stay in a Stateline Hotel.

Thanks for a great stay - I hope to be back soon!

I might be biased but I would have to agree with you. Lakeshore Lodge is a great spot for a relaxing ski vacation. We are centrally located, lots of amenities within walking distance, discount lift tickets, ski shuttles, grocery stores, etc. Sorry the bathrooms were so dark, we will look into that. Thank you for your review and for the accurate description of what we are and are not. We never try to misrepresent ourselves so it helps for people to know what to expect. Please come see us again the next time your are in the area.

We liked the Lakeshore Lodge & Spa and stayed in a hot tub suite. The location was wonderful -- just steps from the beach on the beautiful lake. Because it was July, the rooms got very hot at night. They should install ceiling fans - especially in the bedroom.
The kitchen was nice and equipped with pots and pans for cooking. Also, chairs and umbrellas on the beach would be wonderful! The hotel next door offered beach chairs and umbrellas. It was just too hot to be out in the sun all day without shade. Music on the beach Thursday night was soothing and fun. The casino's were 1.7 miles away - which was a long walk - there and back. All in all, the we had a wonderful time & Lake Tahoe was definitely worth seeing.

We spent a week here. The customer service was above and beyond! Never stayed anywhere with such great staff. Rooms are large and comfortable. Well worth the price. Views from ALL rooms to the lake. Balconies or porches for each room. You can truly relax and enjoy. We slept with the windows and doors open, listening to the lake. I can just imagine how wonderful it would be in the winter. This is definately where we will stay every time we go! Walking distance to resturants, grocery stores, pharmacy, gift shops.

Winters are beautiful here as well. When the weather allows I always recommend having your windows and doors open to enjoy the fresh air and relaxing sound of the lake. Our staff has been with us for a long time and we are very proud of them. Thank you for your review!

Well, I was expecting a little more from the reviews and title that it was a Spa. I was expecting an actual nice hotel. But instead it is nothing more than a motel. It was a little shabby … especially the elevator!! The room was big and it was fine …. nothing fancy … just pretty basic. The private beach was nice. The staff were excellent!! They were so helpful at giving tips on traveling around. And if you want to be in the busy part of South Tahoe, then the location is great. Lots of restaurants nearby. Although, you do have to drive to the casinos and Heavenly Mountain, which is fine if you don’t mind that. Overall, it was an old motel, and not all that nice, but it is a fine place to sleep if you don’t mind something average.
