More like a motel that a traditional hotel but good value all the same, very well located for all amenities with ample parking. The room was clean and spacious and the staff helpful and attentive. Only gripe was the loud noise from large pine cones dropping on the roof! Breakfast was good with a nice relaxed atmosphere in the small breakfast area. A great base for touring and easy to find.

My husband and I took two kids to Lake Tahoe for a trip and we stayed here for a couple of days. It was a nice trip. Kids loved this place to stay.

If you're ever on a long vacation with your wife, and if your long vacation includes lots of visits to scenic places where you're going to do lots of hiking, and if you're thinking, "Hey, South Lake Tahoe would be a good stopover on our way from Yosemite to Lassen," and if you continue to think, "And, an in-room jacuzzi might be kind of nice,"--both because you've been doing a lot of hiking, and because you're on a long vacation with your wife--and your left brain says, "I don't know, I like the Holiday Inn Express chain a lot, but they don't strike me as the typical kind of place that would have in-room jacuzzis, and besides that the room rate for this one seems kind of steep," but your right brain says, "Go ahead, splurge a little,"

LISTEN TO YOUR RIGHT BRAIN AND RESERVE THE JACUZZI SUITE.

Okay, so we haven't stayed in a lot of 5-star resorts, etc., but this was probably the nicest hotel room we've ever stayed in.

It's large. It has a really nice jacuzzi tub which just may be comfortably large enough for two. The jacuzzi is in its own room (along with the toilet), and there's a very nice gas fireplace in the wall between the jacuzzi room and the main bedroom. (Therefore, if complete privacy is a concern to anyone, be aware that it IS possible, if you want, to see through the fireplace into the jacuzzi room from the bedroom.)

The main bathroom (adjacent through a door to the jacuzzi room) has a large walk-in shower with two shower heads, a long counter with two sinks, a closet and a TV. Nice granite and tile throughout.

The bedroom shares the fireplace, has a comfortable king size bed, a chaise lounge chair, TV, refrigerator, microwave. Also a table with two chairs. Everything in the suite was like new.

Someone took care in designing this suite and did a really nice job with it.

The hotel certainly makes a nice first impression. This hotel seems to be an updated hotel, and it seems that the highest priority was made to make the hotel photogenic. Most of the interior decoration is quite new and updated, but both of the mattresses were obviously quite old, one in particular very saggy, probably at least 20 years old. The coffee maker could not be moved, nor could one easily fill it, since it's in a closet and there really isn't a way to pour water into it, other than from a cup, since you can't take it out. For reasons unclear to me, the hot tub closes at 10 PM, just when I think most people would like to use it (before going to bed). It's not as if there's a lifeguard there, and one needs a key to get in, so I don't understand the logic of having a hot tub (two, actually, since one is outdoors but also locked at 10 PM) which is inaccessible at the most convenient time for customers.
The breakfasts were standard HIX fare. The bacon was so thin, I think I could read a newspaper through it. No mention or benefit for Platinum status with Priority Club (not even a newspaper). Internet was free in any case and worked well. While on the main highway, all of the rooms are protected at least to some extent (by trees at least) from the highway, and none are right on the highway. So no highway noise, but there was significant plumbing noise.
This hotel is OK, but for $150 a night (discounted AAA rate), I think I expected more--like good mattresses.

This hotel is well located for the nearby gondola to the slopes, (about 10 mins walk with ski boots on.) Whilst the room were basic, the bathroom had clearly been updated. We loved being able to walk to nearby shops and restaurants, a rare thing in the USA! The roads in from the north of Lake Tahoe were spectacular if rather twisty. We left on the road to Reno which was again beautiful and less twisty.

Generally we go to Tahoe once a year to ski. We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express for about 5 years now, and have always been pleased with the experience. The rooms are kept clean and tidy and although not luxurious they are exactly what you need when on holiday. The staff are helpful and friendly and breakfast is good. The HI Express is also in a good location for walking to the shops and restaurants in the evening. All in all it's a great place to stay.

We had a very good stay here. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was very good too. The room (one king size bed) was a good size and the little kitchenette very handy. No view but the location is very convenient for the supermarket, numerous eating places and ski lifts. The Gondola is a 3-400m walk and the bus for the California base about 40m away. You can get the bus, in the opp direction, to the Gondola as well. Especially good value Sun - Thursday. We had a problem with the heater (fan never stopped) but this was quickly fixed without fuss the next day. Only small negative was the although the room was cleaned well they rarely emptied the rubbish bin! We also never left our towels on the floor but they were still replaced with clean ones everyday.
