“Great Tahoe location”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

The Marriott Timber Lodge at South Lake Tahoe has the perfect location for a Tahoe vacation. The rooms are comfortable, offering all you could need. There are many activities right at the resort, so there is no need to go searching for what to do. Shopping and restaurants are nearby as well. This is a great place to visit!

Room Tip: The Alpine building is the best. The top floors are great, although there are no balconies there, b...

We spent 5 days at the a Timber Lodge in a 2BR suite and were not impressed. Unlike most hotels we've stayed in, such accommodations would have included at least one balcony: in this case, none. In fact the "2BR suite" was simply a 1BR with an available connecting room. The furnishings and common areas were small and basic, the "gas fireplace" barely held a flame, and the room, facing the gondola, was noisy until 11pm and then again, as it partly faces the ever packed highway, noisy again at 6am.

If you like Casinos, they're a block away. If you like walking on trails and quick access to nice beaches, be prepared to drive.

The restaurants around the area were either traditional joints (Burger King, Jamba Juice etc) or local 20+ Year tired places. With the exception of Jimmy's and Kalani's the restaurants were of very poor quality. Even the highly rated Base Camp Pizza was a 45 minute wait and then 30 minutes for the appetizer to come out, then the pizza was very basic. Order take out if you must!

The pool area was crowded, albeit with a decent sized pool and 4 hot tubs, the number of rooms in the property making it seem like there was no space to breathe. The food available at the pool was limited to a handful of choices and it was better to order takeout from the nearby restaurants and go pick up to bring back to the pool than to order from the menu, although the drink prices when you could get a server (1 for the whole pool area) - ($4 for a glass of wine) were good.

We ended up mainly using the property as a room-only place - ie. we were out visiting state parks and other parts of the Lake most of the time. As a family of four with teenagers, we disliked the "Stateline area" intensely and would, if we visited again, rather be up north in Incline at the Hyatt or a rental property, with their private beaches and nearby available great restaurants.

Those loving food, relaxation, and reasonable noise, I suggest you avoid thIs part of Lake Tahoe.

Just spent 7 days at Marriott Timber Lodge in a typical studio unit, which comprised of a King Bed, Sleeper Sofa, & Kitchenette. Our room was in the Alpine building and had a view of the pool with no balcony but did have windows that partially opened. We really enjoyed our stay here because of the flexibility it provided for our trip. As previously stated from others it is the middle of everything, thus allowed us to visit the casino's one night, made it easy to go to the beach, hike, and tour all of Lake Tahoe. So If you are interested in having a rustic getaway in the woods this shouldn't be your choice.

We really liked having the option of just walking to dinner and listening to music within the heavenly village on evenings we didn't go offsite for dinner. I felt all services that we used were very good, the valet was very prompt in bringing our car around(we texted our number to them), the concierge was very helpful(provided restaurant suggestions, activity suggestions, and the Marriott Top 20 Hikes), and we utilized the maid service a fews days during our vacation for a Tidy clean that was just fine.

The only thing, that I could see as an improvement area, Marriott Vacation Club has started to do at different resorts is put in a Adult Only pool and spa or Adult only times. Because the footprint of the resort is small and the pool/spa area is also small, kids were constantly running back and forth from the pool to the hot tubs at all times of the day and night. This is typically not an issue for me as I travel with my three younger children but I could see how this could be frustrating for an adult only vacation that wants to get in the spa without kids splashing around at 9:00pm. Beyond that the pool remodel was great. All in all I would go back to the resort in a heartbeat as it provides such flexibility for a Tahoe vacation.

We stayed here for 5 nights as part of our Marriott Vacation Club stay. The property has been recently renovated. The rooms and amenities are excellent. The kitchen has brand new GE appliances and sufficient silverware, stemware and cooking utensils.

The pool was heated to 85 F even though it was in the high 60s and 70s during the day. The exercise room had 3 cross trainers, 3 bikes and 3 treadmills and different size Swiss Balls. They also have a Life Fitness equipped weight room. The bathrooms opened directly into the pool area.
The staff is efficient but not really enthusiastic and warm. We received limited information from the concierge about activities that were in the vicinity but not in South Lake Tahoe (for e.g. he didn't know anything about bike trails/rentals in Tahoe City). However, when I left my jacket at the pool, a staff member turned it in and security delivered it to my door. Parking is all Valet and it was included in our time share and it was fairly efficient as long as you called 10 minutes in advance.
There are a ton of restaurant/bars at Heavenly Village and at State Line and if you are into Casinos they are just a block away on the Nevada side. You can take the Gondola to the top of Heavenly mountain from outside the hotel. Excellent hiking nearby in the Van Sickle Bi-State Park and the Tahoe Rim Trail South. Children's activities are also very good at the children's center.
We rented bikes at Anderson bike rental and rode along the trail parallel to route 89 to Pope Beach and a historic site. There is also very good white water rafting about 1 1/2 hours away on the American River in case there isn't sufficient flow on the Truckee river due to the drought.

Room Tip: The rooms in building 6 were right next to the registration desk and weren't much of a walk and...

We stayed here with our children in a suite. We were really comfortable, and the amenities were great. The separate bedroom was a perfect way to grab so alone time as the kids relaxed in the living room area. The restaurants in the area were great and easy walks. Overall, we were pleased with our accommodations. .

I spent 12 days at The Marriott Timber Lodge in June...Ive been meaning to write this review because I did have such a nice rekaxing time there. I stayed in the suite that offers a kitchen and a separate bedroom with a hot tub and then a separate shower bathroom. I had some friends come visit me from Reno and they have a two year old daughter...so the staff set me uo to accomodate them. The Timber Lodge in the summer is like a Village in Switzerland and the Gondola from Heavenly goes up the mountain offering spectacular views of Lake Tahoe.
Im going back as soon as I can!!!!

This was our first trip to Lake Tahoe and we could not have picked a better hotel. This was beautiful, clean and in the middle of everything. Our one-bedroom unit was large and with a full kitchen we could have stayed a lot longer than our two nights. The staff was friendly and helpful and the concierge had great suggestions on how to get the most out of our time. We took the gondola to the top of Heavenly Mountain by going just a few steps from the lobby. The views were magnificent. Since the lodge is just about on the state line, a short walk brought you to the casinos. The little "Heavenly Village" had everything you could want within a few minutes walk. If we go back to Lake Tahoe we will definitely stay here..
