“Not for the Clausterphobic”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Stayed here four nights recently. There were two of us on a business trip. The room was clean, but very small. I have stayed in more spacious rooms in monasteries. Except for the free WiFi and flat screen TV with good cable reception, it was a lot like staying in a monastery and almost as quiet. The shower was so tight that it is hard to get the lower half of one's body very wet. There is one chair for the desk and that's all the seating accommodation except for the bed. The place was full with construction workers, cyclists, and speakers for a nearby Christian camp meeting--apparently those with a need for a clean bed and a shower for the low price find this motel meets their needs. It is family-owned and managed and efficiently.

The best thing this motel has going for it is the location: right on Rt 50/89 on the south edge of town, away from the mob scene that is Lake Tahoe Blvd. There are 3 restaurants (breakfast, pizza, and Italian) within walking distance. Less than a mile down the road at the "fork" is Raley's, KMart, Starbuck's, and CVS for the daily staples.

This is your basic 2- star motel with parking in front of the small rooms, free wi-fi, and a comfy bed. The polite (but not friendly) young owners appear to be putting in some work on upgrades on individual rooms and the grounds, and while it had a surface clean, our room had a funky, unexplainable smell and the furniture and bedspread looked worn. It wasn't the kind of room where i wanted to hang out and there is no common space in which to do so.

If our stay had had a bargain price attached to it, I might be writing a different review right now. But priced at $200+/night it was decidedly anything BUT a good value and I felt ripped off by the room shortage price gouging that was apparently going on that weekend. There are many, many nicer rooms available (typically) in SLT on any given night (not our's) and while I am all for the privately-owned business owner, in this case I would say plan ahead and make reservations at one of the larger places up on SLT Blvd. Or drive on another 2 hours and stay in the Sacramento/foothills area if you don't have the need to be in SLT the next morning.

Room Tip: Its a quiet part of town, and none of them have views, so the only rooms you need to avoid are the t...

Pros: clean, conveniently located and overall pretty well maintained.
Cons: expensive, tiny rooms and even tinier bathrooms

We had a pretty big group and while this hotel was pretty convenient, it was very expensive. I would look into renting a cabin or condo if staying in the area longer than 1 night.

I was in the Tahoe area for one night and needed a place to stay that was not going to break the bank. I was pleasantly surprised with this small classic motel located on us 50.

It was very clean and well maintained, the downsize would be the fact the rooms were small, but that certainly was not a great problem. The bed was very comfortable, the Wi-Fi was the fastest I've ever seen on any lodging, as noted in other reviews many good restaurants are very close along with grocery stores and other shopping.

I sometimes travel with a folding bicycle, and I was able to go right out the door to the back roads and easily get on to many of the bike trails in the area.

I would highly recommend this motel to anyone and it certainly is a great value!

Great price. Clean. Did I say Clean!... Convenient and affordable. Appears that the rooms have been recently painted and updated. I liked the decor. Different colors and decorations than most hotels. The room was a little on the small side but it had all that we needed: queen bed, refrig, Microwave, flat screen TV, high shower nozzle and good water pressure in the shower, air conditioner, and heater. (Yes, we needed both over the 3 nights we were there.) When we travel we are not in our room much but it is great to come back to a nice room to clean up, eat, and sleep with out breaking the bank.

Room Tip: Italian restaurant next door and Pizza across the st. Couple blocks to Raley's grocery store, 10...

It is about 32 miles (40min) from Kirkwood. Hotel is very neat, clean, and comfortable. The heater in the room was convenient for drying our gloves and socks (when kept on the bed, not the heater itself!).

As suggested by some, I asked for a "room in the backside", which turns out to be the rooms farthest from the road. My room was quiet and convenient. Bathroom had enough towels, and other utilities like toothpaste. I think you need to get your own moisturizer and shower cap.

I rate it as excellent because the features are excellent considering the cost.

Room Tip: Prices vary based on day of week, season, etc. If your dates are flexible, planning in advance and a...

We stayed at Apex Inn on February 2013, while visiting South Lake Tahoe.

The innkeepers, a nice couple from India, welcomed and treated us as if we are their close family.
They carefully listened to our need for a quiet room which we really enjoyed.
The room was great: clean, neat and quiet indeed.

Initially we booked the room for two nights but had to leave after one night due to emergency at home.
The hosts being so understanding, not only let us leave early without penalty as required by their policy, they also were very helpful and went out of their way to further assist us.

We plan to complete our unfinished tour at Lake Tahoe, and will definitely stay at Apex Inn and highly recommend it for its advantages.
