“Overall very relaxing and good experience.”
Reviewed 3 July 2009

I recently traveled to Lake Tahoe and i stayed here for a week through Interval International last minute getaway. Overall it was a positive experience. It had a nice pool with 2 Hot tubs and it was great.

Pros:
* Close to the Heavenly village, Shopping and Food.
* Nice rooms & clean rooms.
* Free internet and Free beach pass.
* Some nice activities arranged by hotel (we took a power walk)

Cons:
* Not a friendly front desk. (asked for a change in room type, and they couldn't help)
* No Room service. You have to pay if you are exchanging through Timeshare.
* Towel Service available, but not friendly.
* No parking. Only valet which costs $22/per day.
* Spa was not that great (Very small)

Still I would recommend this Place for its location, cleanliness and views.

We just returned from a 2 night stay at the Marriott Grand Residence in So. Lake Tahoe and were extremely pleased with the hotel. I've posted pictures because the ones I saw posted previously don't do it justice. We stayed in a 1 bedroom, 2 ba suite with a full kitchen. Here's why we LOVE this hotel:
1-Beautiful, updated, warm room with pull out sofa, leather chair, fireplace, dining table and kitchen.. Very roomy, beautiful kitchen w/ granite counters. Our kids ages 12 & 9 decided to sleep on the wide window seats on either side of the fireplace instead of the pull out sofa (see pictures).
2-Separate bedroom with its own fireplace, tv and a nice size jetted tub.
3-Beautiful hotel all around, and great location right next to cinema, gondola, shopping, many restaurants, Raley's, Starbuck's & beach. I asked to see the room first before checking in. I had asked for a lake view room but the rooms facing the lake don't have a water view. We were above the street, but in the distance we had a great view of two sets of snow capped mountains. We did hear a bit of street traffic at night, but not excessive. We always put the temperature control on "fan" for the benefit of white noise that helps us sleep at night. The pool view rooms would be nice too, or gondola view (& maybe a little quiter). I preferred the street/mountain view.
4-The bellman informed us that the laundry machines operate for free even though it looks like you have to put coins in, and room service provides Tide. Nice bonus since we just finished 4 days camping.
5-Beautiful, large pool, with two jacuzzis. The spa looked nice too with a variety of services. Also, I didn't notice that they advertised it online, but there is quite a variety of kids activities during the day and evening that are very reasonably priced. Ex: jewelry making for 1 1/2 hrs for maybe $15?, nature walks, nature crafts $10-15?, and other activities up to about $25 per kid.
6-No pressure or even mention of buying a time share.
7-Nice bath amenities from Bath & Body works.
8-Both rooms have their own bathroom, and one has a tub/shower, the master has a shower and a jacuzzi/jetted tub. There are also two fireplaces & tv's, one in each room.
8-Looks like every room has a balcony but ours was off the bedroom.

This is truly a beautiful hotel. We've stayed at some nice places, like Squaw Valley Resort and a comparable 1 bedroom room was at least $100 more. We also like Embassy Suites but thought we'd try something different this time. We want to come back to this Marriott every year now. The only thing negative would be the gal at the front desk who works in the afternoon because she was not very friendly. Everyone else was great. Also, there is a $22 valet parking fee per day which is a lot. However, when I compared Embassy suites rates without parking & breakfast, this hotel's rates were still less. And Squaw Valley is much more than both hotels. I think we got a better rate with AAA and because we stayed mid June, before summer high season. I do hours of research before booking a hotel, and thanks to tripadvisor we have been very fortunate on our vacations.

We really love this hotel and the location. The rooms are nicely laid out, and the kitchens are fantastic. Rooms are clean. Other reviewers are correct that the staff is not friendly. We've stayed a few times and that is a common theme. One of the most frustrating exprienciences during our May trip was that a GameBoy was taken from our room. My husband realized within 30 minutes of leaving the room that it was left on the kitchen counter. We went back. Housekeeping had already been in. The GameBoy was gone. We are not blaming housekeeping - someone could have leaned into the room and grabbed it when housekeeping was doing their thing. The part of it all that bothered us was that we did report it to the front desk, without accusing anyone. They had "security" come up which was a man with a little pocket notepad. He took very sketchy notes and for the most part, acted disinterested. The front desk staff was the same way. While we did not expect to get the GameBoy back, we did expect a formal report to be written and filed so that if other guest's things went missing, the hotel could try to pinpoint the problem.

So, keep your valuables with you or locked up!!

This place looks nice, but they don't communicate well with each other. We called 4 times to combine our 2 reservations and all that happened was a bunch of transferring to different people. When we arrived the unknowledgable front desk was confused and was not helpful. We had to switch rooms in the middle of our stay. The second room we were in had hair on the the toilet seats of one of the restrooms (the room had 2 restrooms), urine in that same toilet, and had a very awkward odor. When we called down to inform them, they sent housekeeping to our room promptly which was good, however, nobody seemed to care that we were inconvenienced so much. Our fireplace wasn't even working and the maintenance had to come up two separate times to try to fix it. After all this, not a single associate apologized. I doubt they even made any notes that any of these things happened because they seem to have terrible communication. The best people we encountered were the valet. Keep up the good work Valet.

The only thing that lets this one down is the service we got at check in. We recently stayed at the Grand Residence on the first part of our honeymoon. We arrived late evening and didnt really get a welcome or even a smile. I think that this may be just the one person that lets the team down as everyone else we saw throughout our stay was very friendly.
Valet parking is expensive and we were not advised of this beforehand by our travel company, however the valet guys were great and at least we knew our rental car was safe!
The hotel does not have a restaurant or bar however there are plenty near by aswell as a supermarket across the road and given there are fridges in the rooms its no problem to just buy your own food and drinks anyway.
Rooms are excellent as is the pool and hot tub facility. Location wise you could not get better as its right next to the gondola. All round a great stay!

My wife and I have stayed at the Marriott Grand Residences twice now. It is by far the best place to stay in South Lake Tahoe. All of the rooms have been remodeled and are first rate. We had a 1 bedroom suite with a pull out bed from a compartment in the wall. The kitchen is fully equiped and perfect for a longer stay. While this is a Vacation Club Property The staff was very friendly and accomidating.I even recieved a call before our visit wanting to know if there was anything that they could do to make my visit special.( A very nice touch). The hotel is directly at the base of the Heavenly Gondola. It is really convienient and saves you a great deal of time getting started each morning. The one thing that I would request would be a room that does not face the street. It can get noisy at night. Request a room on the back side of the hotel. We had a great time at the Grand Residence and would deffinatly stay there again.

Hard to beat the location for skiing in Heavenly - it is right next to the gondola and there is free ski storage in the ski shop in the ground floor of the hotel. The hotel complex is very attractive, pool area looks great - though bathrobes in the rooms would be useful for getting to and from the pool in winter! We found all the staff extremely helpful. We arrived at midday and could get into our room straightaway, unlike some other reviewers. We had a one bed studio which was small by US standards - kitchen area was largest part of the room and extremely well equiped but it was a bit out of proportion to the rest of the room and we would have liked more storage space and hooks for wet ski kit etc - rooms not really designed with skiing in mind. The bathroom was ok and looked clean but smelt a bit strange. Agree with previous reveiwer that pillows were uncomfortable. Also our room was above one of the shops in the village who had a speaker just under our window playing music all day. Luckily it stopped in time to go to sleep but it was still very annoying.
The village is pretty but a bit soulless and needs more restaurants and bars - there were never any tables at Fire and Ice (the Marriott restaurant) either for apres ski drinks or for evening food - but we were there in a holiday week so it may be better other times. Also $22 a day for valet parking is outrageous. But we enjoyed our stay overall and would probably go back - it looks like one of the better places in Heavenly both for location and for standard of accommodation.
