“Lock your Bikes & 8:00pm Curfew”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

First time at this location. This place would without a doubt be 5 star if it weren't for a couple of things.

1. No security at night time means you are a target. Since we were so close to the Lake and the road, 2nd night there someone came into our site and stole my $500 Trek Mountain Bike. Even with our trailer directly across from Camp Host, this didn't stop a thief from not only Stealing my Bike, but 4 others in the same night. LOCK YOUR BIKES!!

2. Imagine this if you can. It's 8:00pm, still light out, your by the camp fire with 3 families, kids, marshmallow roasting, all laughing have a great time and all of a sudden 3 Camp Hosts come over and say " Hey guys.....it's 8:00pm....quiet time please" Huh???

Are you [--] kidding me? The road noise was 3x louder than we were, not to mention, every surrounding camp sites were 100% awake and active. So what did we do? LOL, we walked across the street and sat at a picnic table watching the sunset Vs. staying in our Campsite. 8:00pm quiet time is just un-realistic for our tastes.

Over all this is a very nice spot, staff were nice, close to everything. Would we stay here again........probably not. It's just a bit too strict for us as we like to stay up til at least 11 or 12 by the fire and talk, look at stars and sip on our fav cocktails, laugh, etc...

Hope this info helps.

Right across from the lake. Everyone at the campground are great. Very reasonable price for a site. Have plenty room between sites. Not on top of each other. Lots for the kids to do. Close to the town and markets. Great place to sit around a campfire at night.

On a budget as travelling California. Came across this camp first and as the staff were so friendly and helpfull we decided to stay 4 nights in total. Great location and even though the camp is situated right beside a main road you really don't hear all that much. My main surprise is just the staff always happy and will give you friendly waves ask you about your trip, just what camp sites need! The showers and toilets are clean and the actual camp sites are very well spaced. Loved this place and would deffinitely stay again!

My Family and i Love to go Camping its something we've been doing for many years since we were kids and out of all the campgrounds we've been to i have to say this is by far the best place to camp especially if you have little ones to watch out for.. the campground is very clean and the staff and hosts are very friendly and you dont have to worry so much for bears coming on to camp sites there is always staff driving around at night making sure everything is ok this is more of a campgound in the city with houses, parks and school near by if you want a more woods kinda feel with bears then this is not the place for you that would be camp Richardson...but as for my family this will always be our favorite campground that we will continue to stay at every year..

mature trees good sized sites and right across the road is lake tahoe. No full hook ups which was a pain but we loved the location with the beach across the street. Bring your bike-you can bike to lots of nice places to shop, eat, browse..etc. We'd come back.

My huband and I were spending a week in Lake Tahoe. We wanted to camp close to Zephyer Cove as we were taking a sunset sailboat excursion out of the area. Well at Zephyer Cove campground it's $70.00 a nite on a weekday and for that amount of money we could stay in a hotel. Soooo we happened to pass by Campground by the Lake. We were pleasantly surprised. Great hosts answered all our questions ,gave us lots of info on places to see and a great resturant "Fresh Catch " at the marina. Beautiful place to sit on the water and watch the boats while enjoying good food. This campground would be an excellent choice for a family. Walking distance to lake with free beach access, kayak rental etc.Picnic area is all new. Library next door. Ice skating rink, indoor heated pool, gym, wi fi , basketball ,weightroom. Vistor center, museum, senior center within walking distance. We could not believe all the amentities,Would stay again with out question. Only dislike is if you get a space by the road there is a lot of traffic. We sleep with earplugs so this was not a problem. For the money you can't beat it . We camped in a 20 ft RV in space #66

Room Tip: Maybe get a space in the back away from busy HWY 50

Im not your typical camper, so when we started going campin here I loved it!! Its great!!! If you like to camp in the middle of nowhere, where the bears come out, then Camp Richardson is for you. I like Campground by the Lake because I have kids, I feel its safer here, as they have rangers walking through campground all nite. This summer will be our fourth time camping there and we love it. Its close to everything, walking distance, and right across the street from Lake Tahoe (the actual lake).
There isn't much privacy, but come on now, ur camping. If you want privacy then STAY HOME! Everything is very clean here, we enjoy it very much.

Room Tip: The campsites by the bathroom our my favorites. Downside? You can only have two vehicles per campgro...
