This is a beautiful, picturesque, warm hotel. If you are can, ask for the rooms overlooking the Sercchio Valley. They are located by the parking lot and not connected to the hotel. They are like bungalows, large with great views. Delicious food at their restaurant for dinner and a lovely breakfast. A lovely place to relax. This is also a Spa hotel, so enjoy that too! We would definitely return.

We just left the Renaissance after a five night stay. The second night there was a huge rain thunder, and lightening storm. When we got up the next day we heard people talking at breakfast about being stranded. We went to the desk and found out the road had been washed out and no one could leave the hotel. A couple of hours later they made an opening down a secondary road, but it was iffy. The internet, telephones, and a lot of the power at the hotel was out for the reminder of our stay. I doubt that any of that will be repaired very soon. It is a very isolated location, and with this problem it is extremely isolated. I would definitely check with the hotel directly if you are planning on going there very soon. If you want a place to relax it is fine. For seeing a lot of Tuscany, the location is not ideal. The indoor pool and steam was nice. Breakfast was also good. I just wish they had made some special accommodations for all our inconveniences, but nothing was done, and getting information was difficult.

WOW Stunning views, outstanding property and service. My wife and I stayed here in October 2013. Hands down top 10 hotels we stayed. I am a Platinum Premier Elite with close to 2,000 nights with Marriott. If you are looking to find a resort with class and style this is the one. The city of Barga is extremely cool, only 10 minute drive away and Lucca about 40 minutes. We totally enjoyed our stay and highly recommend. I also recommend having a GPS if driving. Maria was also very helpful with reservations, directions, etc. This is a definite hotel I would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

All the positives about the Hotel are true but AVOID the side rooms #16, 18 and 19.....there is no view at all and to get to these rooms you go up a slippery stone stairway whose railing is full of foliage teeming with hundreds of bees. Then at night the bees are gone but the stairway is unlit and you cannot see how many steps there are down. I slipped and luckily broke my fall....someone in the future may not be as lucky and may break a leg!

My wife and I are traveling throughout Italy for our anniversary. When we first arrived at the resort we were instantly filled we an overwhelming sense of complete relaxation. The very professional and curtious staff greated us and helped us settle into our room. We stayed and ate in the restaurant and had appetizers in the lobby. The backbone to our service and experience while in the lobby/bar was Massimo. He is a very friendly and kind local who runs the bar area. Massimo offered us great tips, advice, and background on the area.
The resort is situated in a remote part of northern Tuscany. We rented a car in Florence and quickly learned to drive the Italian way. There is some uphill driving, however even in rain and at night it is not too bad.
You can drive to Florence in about ninety minutes and Siena in two and half hours. The lovely Maria R. gave us a tip to drive to Lucca for a day trip. Her recommendation was spot on! She described Lucca as a "mini Florence". It is a forty minute drive there and worth it. The town is beautiful and not to big, around 4km from end to end. Also, we had one of our best meals while Italy for lunch. Thank you Maria.
The entire staff is very helpful and willing to provide any help and insight to whatever you may ask them. If you are looking to get away from it all but still want access to the major Tusacn areas, this is the resort for you.

Fortunately we decided to include Il Ciocco in our itinerary throughout Tuscany, the route to get to the hotel has wonderful sights, it deserves a couple of stops to take pictures and buy local food specialties. The hotel is in harmony with the surrounding nature, it's a great hotel close to Barga town. There is only one negative point in this hotel according to our experience, room temperature was extremely hot, although the technician came in to confirm it was turned off, we were not allowed to have air conditioning because it was disconnected due to the season. The window remained open whole night and the room was full of mosquitoes.Anyway, the hotel is great, hotel restaurant for breakfast and dinner was great.

Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco resort was refined, relaxing and the views were extraordinary.
We loved the switchback road that leads up the resort. It was a fun drive and once there the service and quality of the rooms were first rate. Other than one egregiously bad meal ( in the 'fancy' dining room - we returned the meal ) the food and dining room service were excellent. Ditto for concierge and desk help. Uniformly nice and prompt. The resort is a little over-weighted towards American corporate clients but management appears to be working hard to turn it into a truly international resort. While we were there there was a group of Swiss moto-cross riders. Not a particularly corporate group.

Our room was beautiful, luxurious and well maintained. The spa was very nice though I did notice some mould in one corner of the ceiling. They need to be more vigilant about that.

Internet and other support services were free and worked well. LIne speed was just ok. Again the concierge support was excellent. They were funny, charming and uniformly knowledgeable about everything including good advice about Venice, which is not exactly a local trip.

The area around Barga is beautiful and very sporty with good climbing. cycling, hiking etc. And the view of Barga and the surrounding mountains is endlessly beautiful. Don't miss Castlenuovo Garrifagnana.

Room Tip: ask for a view of Barga
