This was a great find. In the hills overlooking the villages in the valley. Ideal place to unwind. 1.5 hrs from Florence, or La Spezia. 35 mins from Lucca. Accommodation, meals and wellness centre first class. Staff very helpful. Highly recommended

Absolutely amazing. Authentic and genuine. Great customer service and wonderful pool settings. Everything was perfect.

The drive there was pretty scary with hairpin turns and moving up the mountain but when we reached the top all we could smell was lilac and jasmine. The staff upgraded us to this amazing suite with a double balcony it is worth the challenge!

I preface this by saying I do not give out 5 stars very often, but they hit the nail on the head here every time. The resort is secluded and gorgeous. We are Platinum members and they upgraded us to a beautiful suite.

Tip #1 If you're looking for an upgrade, pay for the Valley Room initially, and if available you will get a much larger Valley room with a separate sitting area and two balconies. In comparison to our in-laws who got upgraded but had just paid for a normal room, ours was almost double the size. It is worth the extra money spent. Also included if you're a platinum member is a wonderful breakfast that can be enjoyed on one of the most beautiful outdoor terraces.

Tip #2 You MUST go to Cinque Terre. If you're not looking for any type of tours, Sunday was a lovely day. (BARGA is the train station you will go out of) No tours were offered but the train was empty and the 5 towns were much less crowded. (If you're looking for tours go on any other day) Its about a 2 hour train ride there, and when you arrive you buy the 5 town train hopper that takes you from one town to the next. It was lovely shopping, lovely restaurants, and lovely people! It was very easy to get from place to place, and we managed on our own just fine.

Tip #3 Do the Wine Tour at the Local Organic Vineyard. For a little slower paced day we started out using their indoor pool, Walk through Shower, and sauna and then headed to the Vineyard. It is a small local vineyard. It was wonderful, you learned just enough information to learn about their processes but not too much to be bored. It ends with a nice Italian food and wine tasting.

Tip # 3 Take a day trip to Pisa. It is a direct train out of Barga, check seeing the tower off your bucket list....but do not spend more then a day in Pisa...the city itself is rather run down.

Tip #4 Eat dinner at the Restaurant at the hotel on Saturday Evening. The food and prices here are excellent and very reasonable for a hotel. We had the risotto, Ribeye, and Filet and they tasted and were cooked to perfection. The reason I say Saturday is because it was so good we went back a few days later and all the food tasted differently. I asked if there was a different chef on and they said yes.

It is a $15 Euro Charge for the Train Station (Barga) and $20 Euro Charge for anywhere else. DO make all taxi reservations in advance, as it can take up to an hour for one to come.

This hotel is a small taste of heaven. It is outside the hustle and bustle of all the busy cities and was a nice change of pace for us. A lot of people recommend getting cars, my personal opinion is if you are just in town for a few nights don't bother. Most likely you will be having a glass of wine or two and getting to the hotel can be quite difficult. Rely on taxis and they will get you there very easily.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The front desk staff were exceptional and Massimo took WONDERFUL care of us while we were there. My only complaint was the ATM machine was not working one of the days we were there....other than that it was a wonderful stay and we will definitely come back.

Thank you for taking such wonderful care of us, and making us as Marriott Reward Members feel valued!!

One of the best hotel experiences for me. Amazing location in the middle of Tuscany mountains and small Italian villages perched on top of mountains.

Breakfast was really good too. Get a rental car if you are comfortable driving in Europe and you will be able to enjoy this area to its maximum. Definitely can spend atleast 3-4 days going around places and relaxing at this resort.

We spent seven days in the Renaissance and loved it, Staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean and comfortable with magnificent views over the valley to Barga, breakfast was good, dinner was OK but we only ate at the restaurant on one night as we wanted to try some local village restaurants. This resort is remote and it is essential that you have a car to help you get around. We did day trips from the resort and visited Lucca, Florence, Pisa, Montecatini Terme and Cinque Terre. Highly recommended.
