I found Cortijo Sabila by sheer luck when driving past on my way to Granada and looked for a last minute place to stay. What a surprise, hidden in the mountains.
Ray and Yvonne are superb hosts and made me feel like an old friend arriving home. And what a home it is! The house must be experienced to believe - a typical Spanish country mansion renovated with love (and I am sure also lots of sweat and tears). The house is furnished with carefully selected antique pieces which each carry their own story.
Yvonne is an excellent cook - do not even think of going to eat in the village.
Although Cortijo Sabila is highly rated as a boutique hotel, I can not think of it as a hotel. This is a home, with the doors open to privileged weary travellers.
I arrived as a traveller looking for a place to sleep for the night, I left as a friend.
Ray and Yvonne, I will be back to see the new rooms, the garden growing and maturing, the sun rising over the mountains.... and another dinner in the impressive dining room.
If there were six stars to be given, it would be well rewarded to Cortija Sabila - Home of Ray and Yvonne.

Room Tip: Luxurious white cotton linen, beautiful furnishings and individually decorated rooms. I will have to...

Yvonne and Ray were fabulous hosts who went out of their way to ensure that our stay was perfect in every way. The Cortijo Sabila is a superbly renovated Spanish country home. Amazing gardens and Ray and Yvonne's vision is yet to be fully realised. Now....about the cook....the food and the atomsphere was first class. You must experience the dining room. Can't forget to mention Oscar and Stanley (their Airedale Terriors) who take it upon themselves to welcome all visitors to their home (humans and dogs!).

We found it a little difficult to find the property but understand that improved signage is forthcoming in 2014. Wireless in the bedroom would have been handy, given the amount of time we spend on the internet!

All in all....nothing more to say but FABULOUS!

Very nice countryside location among olive trees. Very easy to find from the highway.
Nice room and up to date bathroom. Pleasant decoration in the hotel , with a combination of British- Andalous- style with a touch of Farrow & Ball so typical paint ! Very good and elaborated cooking done by the owner herself ! I will come back for sure !
"Cerise sur le gâteau", these charming people are dog friendly, which is very rare in Spain !!!

This is like a dream come true hotel. Small, luxurious, well located and a warm welcome makes it all so worthwhile.
Influenced by the many positive reviews the choice for Cortijo Sabilla was quickly made but ...we got even more than expected. Yvonne's enthusiasm radiates everywhere in the hotel and she has such inspiring ambitions we were so sad to have to leave after one night.
We had a lovely supper in the superb dinning room and enjoyed the lovely fireplace as if we were at home. Breakfast was thanks to the personal touch great ! We hope to be able to go back and see how the hotel will evolve. I envy all guests who will have summer warm evenings in this stunning landscape in this beautifull hotel !

Most of our overnight stops on this trip to Andalucia was unplanned. We rang Yvonne's doorbell hoping to have accommodations for the night. We planned to stay a night then continue to drive north heading to Madrid.

The Cortijo Sabila is enchanting! Yvonne has paid attention to every detail and it was perfect--from the roaring fire in the sitting room to the sumptuous home cooked meal that Yvonne prepared for us that evening! We met the other guests and exchanged experiences of the trip (very helpful indeed!).

The Cortijo's location was also quite stunning. As an avid photographer, it was a pleasure to wake up in the morning to watch the sunrise! Yvone also suggested sunset at El Torcal--stunning as well even if the wind whipped cold!

Yvonne was very helpful in planning our trip and with her advice we were able to do both Cordova and Granada instead of just one of the two. As we enjoyed the night's stay with Yvonne, we decided to stay another night and of course enjoy her awesome cooking one more dinner!

As we did not have a chance to meet Ray on this trip, we plan to hopefully return to Andalucia and knock upon Yvonne's door once again!

Many thanks, Yvonne, everything was perfect!

PS: There was no swimming pool, they rating system does not seem to allow me to delete the "swimming pool" comment, my apologies.

Room Tip: All rooms awesome! Just depends on the size you require.

We did stay 10 days in this lovely guest house. Yvonne and Ray made our holiday wonderful. We cannot emagine anything at all that should be more better. We will return that is for sure. Yvonne and Ray thanks again. We cannot give you a higher rate than a ten, but if that was possible we would do so. We share the wonderful reviews of the other guests. We think that those who like to have a perfect stay ( rooms, diner, breakfast, surrounding ) should go to Cortijo Sabila. Sjaak and Jose

In this day and age we have all become accustomed to extravagant claims and wide angled lenses. However, stop right there-
Cortijo Sabila is neither digitally enhanced, or exaggerated. It under-promises and over-delivers far in access of expectations.

The setting is outstanding - we arrived late at night to see a fairy tale palace beautifully lit, set amidst the hills, with a very warm welcome from Ray and Yvonne, and much needed refreshments after a challenging day - where would one get service like that in the UK?
- the drawing room, where drinks are served prior to dinner and also accessible throughout the day, is magnificent, vast, spacious and relaxing
- the bedrooms are unique - each one individually styled, as is the whole establishment and granted, it is the home of the owners - but it somehow defies description.
- we dined in a beautifully furnished traditional dining room with delicious food and unobtrusive service
- breakfast was served on a delightful inside terrace which surrounded an inner courtyard, complete with fountain, again serviced with leisure and so relaxing
- all the food was delicious, as was the wine, and both very reasonably priced, so as we wanted to chill out there was no need to look further!
- the location is perfect, just out of the cut and thrust of the south coast, but with excellent access to the motor-way network. There are so many places to easily visit within the day.
Cortijo Sabila is also set in acres of olive groves with the accommodation surrounded by a series of different gardens - a whole series where every guest could have one of their own - or meet in the communal space if feeling convivial. There is even an in house therapy service.
Cortijo Sabila is clearly making an impact on the local scene, while we were there we heard that certain times were booking fast - repeat bookings are already coming in for next summer.
If you want a touch of magic - book it soon.
