Its an ancient church...old cypriot representations of jesus everywhere..the cathedral was so eerie and had immense character...I was a tiny bit uncomfortable because it had a very serious air, but i believe that added to the experience. Beautiful building and the drinking water area was so authentic...

This place needs a clean up, some reverence and TLC big style. We visited on the Saints (Andrew's) Day- myself from Scotland (where he is Patron Saint). A beautiful greek orthodox service was taking place inside incl. readings from women and with a "bishop presiding but outside was a tip with poor donkeys munching the insides of plastic bags (potentially a fatal and painful pursuit!). The stall holders were polite and not harassing, which I was surprised at and I managed to purchase a lovely warm jumper at a fair price in TL. The place could be so different with some TLC and mutual respect with it's beautiful seaside location and sacredness.

The monastery is situated at the tip of Karpas peninsula. Its location is interesting and wonderful Golden Beach is nearby.

Blimey, what a terrible shame and pointless place this is. And old ruin of an ancient monastery ruined by no money being spent on the place and it is all chained up and locked up so you can't even get in. The Turkish Cypriots seem more interested in putting up stalls outside to sell the usual tutt and rubbish you get at Tourist attractions. It is really sad to see the place in this state. We evening asked the local Police who have set up office who to get in and they said it is open. I tried to get them to come and see and show them it was locked but not interested. A 100% waste of time and effort and couldn't recommend enough not to bother to go and visit the place. All the building work around the area doesn't help much either. Even the donkeys think it is not worth the petrol to get there. On the plus side the trip past Golden Sands Beach was totally amazing.....
