We've been to eat at the Brown Trout on numerous occasssions which is what this review is about really - the food. The menu suits all tastes including vegetarian options, and is very reasonably priced. If you are staying there they will make up packed lunches if you're going off to do a spot of fishing in Loch Watten. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We loved it and I'd highly recommend eating there. It does get busy but it's well worth waiting five minutes longer for that delicious food!

We spent two nights at this lovely hotel a short distance from the most northern tip of the UK mainland; 2 1/2 hours drive from Inverness. Quaint fresh decor and a very warm welcome made us feel at home immediately. The decoration is fresh and interesting. the hotel definitely has a fishing theme and we met others staying there who go there regularly for the fishing. We used it as a base to go north to John O' Groats, the Queen Mother's Castle Mae, and it is an easy drive to have a day trip on the ferry to the Orkney Islands, though sadly we didn't have time for this. The breakfast was magnificent and very filling with a choice you fill n the night before, served from 7 - 9.30, and evening meals though a bit pricey for us were well worth it and served until 8pm - all home cooked, very good quality.

We were desperate to find a place in the area that accepted dogs and this place came up trumps. The first night as we were eating alone, they allowed our very well behaved elderly collie into the dining area, otherwise we left her n the car because she would have barked in the room..

There were lots of leaflets about the surrounding areas and the staff were very helpful with ideas and comments. It is a tiny bit out of the way but that's great for those who want to be off the beaten track.

We were very happy here and if we stray that far north again we will likely go there again.

Visited the restaurant many times over past 5 years. Recently was end August and start of September. It never fails. The food is simple but plenty of it (what portions!) and beautifully cooked and presented. It states this is not a fast food place and time is taken to cook your meal fresh. It's worth the wait. Staff friendly and it feels like a home from home. So if in the Wick or Thurso area its worth the drive.
