We stayed at Beechwood Close Hotel a few weeks ago having purchased a KGB voucher for 2 nights.
On trying to book the hotel on the dates we wanted, we discovered that all the standard doubles were taken. We were offered a premium room for an extra £10 per night, which seemed very reasonable.
Unfortunately when we were shown to our room, there was nothing premium about it. I dread to think what a standard room would of been like. It was very tired and extremely dated, with an awful view of some pipes and a flat roof, and a dodgy sliding door to the bathroom. There was also a kitchen work top acting as the dressing table, and the door lock was rather confusing until I found somebody to explain it to us. I would also recommend to take your own towels, as the ones given to you are small and scratchy, instead of large and fluffy.
On the plus side, the bed was comfy, and everything was very clean (apart from some mould round the shower tray). The breakfast had a good selection of items available and the female staff were very helpful and friendly.
It was a 15 minute brisk walk into York.
Overall I am glad we didn't pay full price to stay here, but with the deal we got the price was probably about right for York.More
