We just returned from a 3 night stay at Beechwood close over new years. Having read mixed reviews about the hotel, we were skeptical, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. From the moment we arrived and right throughout our stay the staff were very friendly. We were in a large family room with just 2 of us, but it also had 2 single beds so would have been a good size for a family. It's about 20-25 minute walk into the centre of York, or about £5-6 in a taxi. Breakfasts had a pretty good choice of food and we can't fault the service, they even went out of their way to help us and recommend other places to visit in town for new years, despite their own party (which we ended up back at anyway!). The bed was really comfortable too!
The only downside was that our room was above the bar, but the noise level quietened down at a reasonable hour and we even managed to fall asleep while the last of the new years eve music was still playing. We went to the hotel's new years eve party. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was good. A bit of a mixed bag with the music and a few too many xmas songs for my liking, but that's not much to complain about, we had a great night!More
