I organize a new monthly meeting for older folks 60+ at the Beechwood. The manageress Claire is very helpful and keen to provide a great meal .On the first meeting we thought 40 would come but 58 turned up.All credit to the chef and serving staff did well especially as there was another meeting on in a neighbouring room too ! There was a small delay for gravy but overall those who attended were happy and are still coming!Catering for unpredictable numbers is never easy so well done to the staff. Claire and Mark her brother are keen to help and if there are any difficulties happy to sort them out if told. A good place to meet and great for older folks in the community.

On arrival the entrance area was cluttered with several table tops - safety hazard if not worse.
No one was at the reception desk, but a chair was occupied by a dog.
When someone finally arrived his manner was brusk and quite rude - where was the warm welcome they so proudly advertise?
The front desk was very untidy. When handed our key we had to find our own way to the room, which as a family room still felt cluttered with very dated and worn furniture. Breakfast when it eventually arrived was poor. There were table cloths piled up from the previous evening's event. Tables were moved as we ate breakfast instead of giving guests the attention! There seemed to be too few staff to make sure guests needs were being met. No one seemed to have the ability or skills or in fact be bothered to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
Will not stay at this hotel again!

Spent four days in York. Lodge well situated with bus connections to city centre, also reasonable taxi fare distance. Nice garden, cosy bar, good restaurant. Some rooms somewhat small, but wouldn't hesitate to come back.

We booked a 3 night break through Superbreak. We walked from the train station, it takes about 35 mins. We were checked in by a very helpful lady, she pointed us in the direction of our room.
Room 8 - a bit dated, but adequate. Great shower.Small TV, but we were not there to watch telly. Bathroom was also dated, but spotless. Really good shower.
Breakfast - the hotel was not busy, so the dining room was quiet. Cereals, orange juice, yogurts, fresh fruit salad ect ,perfect. We ordered the Full Breakfast, it was served promptly, and very hot.
Bar - we did not use the bar.
We ate a Kapadokya 50, it was amazing. We also ate at Bombay Spice, very good. We stumbled, and I mean stumbled, across Boro Bora at around 11pm, it was jumping, great place.
We were in York on a Monday yo Thursday break, it was busy.
Lots to do, great designer mall, just jump on number 7 bus. Also, Monk Cross has a brand new Zm & S, and John Lewis, jump on the number 4 bus. Lots of pubs had quiz nights ect.
Great British Break

Booking in was easy and pleasant everything was explained to us lady on front of house was very friendly . My husband and I had a room at the front of the hotel, was very clean the bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was very good with an excellent selection to choose from including the usual good old English fry up,although the sausages could have been of a better quality . We had two evening meals which were average finding the meals from the specials board better in potion size although a bit over priced for something of the same calibre could be found in any chained pub.Overall our stay was pleasant and comfortable and provided a excellent location to explore the beautiful city of York.

We booked this hotel on a deal and as such it was excellent value for money. We walked slowly to York taking in all the sights which took us 1/2 hour so that's fine. There are a lot of lovely old buildings and York is a wonderful city to visit. We ate here on the first night and the food was good and plentiful also very good value for money. There is a good choice of breakfast which is cooked freshly for you. The staff could not possibly have been anymore friendly or helpful. My only downers were the bedroom and bathroom needed updating and the bed was very small, a small double, but the rooms are small so that is probably why...I thought it was the friendliness of the staff that make this place.
