“Beautiful, peaceful location but close to many sites”
Reviewed 30 April 2018 for a stay in April 2018

We had a wonderful few days at Downoak Abbey Lodge, which started with a lovely warm welcome and a rainbow over the fields. The lodge is small but perfect for 2 people. The bed was very comfy and the electric blanket - fabulous! We didn't really need it but I had to use it because it was so lovely. The only issue in the lodge (and it's a minor one) was the shower. The pressure was quite poor, and twice out of the 4 mornings I used it, it cut out part way through. Once I had to get my husband to bring saucepans of hot water in from the kitchen, and once I had just started my shower, so I waited 20 minutes then it was ok.

The surrounding countryside is stunning. We visited Battle Abbey and walked round the battlefield (the audio guides are a must, they really bring the place to life), Hastings (we visited the Fishermen's Museum, the Shipwreck Museum, the True Crime Museum - fabulous - and the Old Town), Rye (Knoops is a must for hot chocolate), Bodiam Castle and Dungeness, which had an amazing post-apocalpytic vibe to it.

I would definitely recommend this lodge for a couple looking for peace and quiet but close proximity to attractions. It was a fabulous break and I wish we could have stayed longer.

“Relaxing pad in the country”
Reviewed 10 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Once you spot the turning off the main road, you'll be surprised at the high standard this cottage has been finished to. The bathroom would fit fine in a luxury country pad. It's a fantastic relaxing little place, very cosy and safe. Step out on the terrace and you'll get great views of the rolling countryside or do a spot of stargazing at night. It's the best holiday cottage we've stayed in anywhere in the UK.

“A little piece of Heaven”
Reviewed 7 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

On arrival at the Lodge we were very warmly greeted by O. He showed us around and gave us useful information on the local area, pubs and places to eat. The Lodge is in the most beautiful, private location with superb country views and walks along the 1066 route. The interior of the Lodge is gorgeous and spotlessly clean. O certainly has great taste.
The kitchen is well equipped although we only prepared breakfast as we are out each evening we were there. The New Inn in Westfield is a short walk across the local cricket ground and serves lovely food. Bathroom is well appointed with a large walk in shower. The water pressure is a bit low but this was the only thing we could fault.
Would highly recommend the Lodge, we will certainly return.

“luscious location and facilities”
Reviewed 1 March 2016 for a stay in February 2016

Arrived in the dark, to a lantern of candles to greet me at the top of the drive, and lights around the Lodge. Everything is clean, slightly oriental in its design, minimalist and elegant. The galley kitchen is equipped for essential cooking , not much more. I would need a couple of more pots, jugs, bowls etc if staying there for any length of time, but thats because I prefer to cook rather than eat out. Splendid "wet room" a little disappointing that the water pressure was so low. I suspect that will be fixed by the time I visit again. Yes I will be!

“Wonderful”
Reviewed 22 December 2015 for a stay in December 2015

We had a wonderful stay at Downoak Abbey Lodge. From prompt, friendly and professional correspondence from Nat whilst booking to arriving to find it as lovely inside and out as the pictures. The lodge was spotless and so tastefully and thoughtfully decorated (so many things there that we'd love in our own house!). Little touches like Tassimo coffee, Sky TV and DVD's to watch really made a difference too and contributed to the feeling of staying somewhere that the owner really cared about us having a good stay. Outside is also stunning, with amazing views across the Sussex countryside, wonderful to pull up the blinds whilst in bed and watch the sunrise across the fields. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained too and all in all, we found it great value. We would highly recommend staying here and we'll also be returning! Thanks Nat. :)

“A lovely place for a relaxing break.”
Reviewed 6 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Nat, the owner, has renovated and decorated this small farm building very nicely. Just a stone's throw from London (well, 90 minutes' drive) we loved the peace and quiet and waking up to views over the East Sussex countryside every morning. Totally recommended for a few days in a lovely part of the country...

“Peaceful and beautiful”
Reviewed 24 August 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Downoak abbey lodge was wonderful. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we both fell in love with the place!
We arrived late friday evening and we really did struggle finding the place in the dark (we were driving around for some time!) but we found it and we were very pleased!

The lodge's interior design was beautiful, i would like to do my house up simular! Very modern and rustic.
The lodge is on the other side of the main house facing the other way so you have your privacy, even your own front area for parking.
Bed was very comfy, tv on a very useful stand to watch from wherever your sat. House was full equipped with cooking needs.
The only down side is there is no lounge but this was not a problem for us as we had lovely weather so sat outside a lot on the outside furniture.

We would recommend to stay here and would love to come back at some point ourselves !
