The Old Ford is situated on the outskirts of Brecon with a stunning view of the Brecon Beacons. Picnic tables outside enable you to make the most of this on a fine day. Choice of real ales is limited but the menu sounded fine.
Choosing a simple battered cod and chips, I was not impressed to find a watery, mushy filling inside the batter, which may have started out as a frozen piece of fish but was destroyed in the cooking. My wife chose the pie of the day - chicken and mushroom - and was happy with the filling but thought there was too much pastry. While it wouldn't be fair to complain about the quantity or price of the food, we felt that an "average" grade was the most we could give.
Others have praised the food highly, so perhaps we were unlucky. The service was fast and friendly.

We, a family of eight, ate here this weekend. Our food was quickly brought to the table, piping hot, all at the same time by friendly, smiling waitresses. Every meal was terrific, well cooked, well presented home cooked, honest food. A real treat and great value.
Well done the Old Forders ! We look forward to returning.

We actually stumbled upon this place by accident, on our way off on a weekend away. It was a brilliant find! Stopping only for a quick lunch we weren't really expecting too much but boy were we surprised!
The pub is gorgeous, very olde worldy, but clean and roomy. The menu was much more extensive than expected and very resonably priced. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and welcoming.
I had the vegetable crumble - which was easily the best vegetarian meal I have every eaten out for lunch, and my partner had chicken, ham and leek pie which was also fantastic (and I dont even like pie!), both werev obviously home made and really delicious.
Certainly worth a visit, and we will surely be returning!
