Yes it is shabby and in need of a makeover, but looking past that, my room was comfy and very large. Haven't eaten here as the menu and price cannot compare with the pub opposite. Is like going back in time with the international hair stylist salon on the first floor (not open). Very grand staircases though up to the second floor (didn't risk the lift).

When we 1st arrived the car park was spacious & we thought great. Then we cam into the foyer and immediately the alarm bells started ringing, it was so shabby and looked in need of a good clean. The key we were given had a fob on it with our room number which was sellotaped together. got into the lift as we were on 2nd floor and as we came out of the lift the carpets were extremely worn and the floorboards creaked really loudly every step you took. Our room looked like it was decorated 50 years ago with peeling wallpaper that had a huge water stain on it hanging from wall and ceiling, the sink in the bathroom was cracked with 2 different taps on, the wallpaper was stained and very brown, the lino had no pattern left on it and the bath looked like it had been painted with gloss. The bed and the thinnest pillows on it as well as the thinnest mattress, so you couldn't get comfortable. Was informed there were no other rooms available so couldn't change. The breakfast room had carpet stuck together with black tape and the chairs were dirty and stained. It is the worst hotel I have ever seen and should be condemned. The staff were indifferent. Thank heavens for the beautiful pub across the road which did amazing meals.

Room Tip: There aren't any, don't stay

Was in this hotel for a Regimental dinner - superb, and an excellent breakfast the next morning. Located adjacent to the main road for Whitby, Redcar, Guisborough, Saltburn, and Staithes, this is the ideal place to use as a base.
All facilities are provided - wifi, TV, and lots of brochures in reception to assist the visitor, I shall always use this hotel when I am in the Teesside area.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 140, at the rear and very quiet.

First impression..grubby and shabby, and that was just the lobby/foyer.. room carpet had clumps of dirt, fluff etc on it so hadn't been vacuumed..decor was shabby and in need of an urgent uplift,TV didn't work so we were given another room,,this was a lot better.. although the carpet could have done with a good clean, wallpaper was ok BUT the paintwork in the corridors need a good dose of cleaning liquid, as did most of the hotel...room above was rather noisy..Breakfast !!!!! forget it,,best to go hungry,, tea in dining room was cold and stewed, cooked to order breakfast was luke warm, bacon done to a cinder, a long dark hair in the mushrooms (hair was not ordered), hash brown was like dried leather, the only edible item was the fried egg, by now I was past eating anything. Never again,, would rather pay the extra and go to a better grade hotel...Good point...staff were friendly and helpful

Our daughter held her wedding reception here, the lead up to the big day went smoothly with the hotels wedding planner always being helpful. The wedding day food, included drinks, staff and general structure of the day was great and well organized. The food in particular was fresh, good quantity, hot and well presented.
Overnight stay family room was clean comfortable and well equip, breakfast was lovely.
i do agree with other reviews that hotel needs a bit of TLC in places but overall it did not spoil our day the reception and function room facilities were very good.
a perfect day thank you Marton hotel especially Rita and Anne you were so helpful.

The hotel needs some TLC from the outside and Inside. The rooms were recently refurbished and look nice ( don't expect the ritz) but it's ok. The full English breakfast was lukewarm when it came out and the tea in the dining room was stone cold and tastied awful! The bar is ok priced overall I don't think we would stay here again but for £90 for 2 nights what do you expect?

I've travelled all over the world & never experienced anything quite so dire. At Check-in the receptionist was rude & unhelpful so we looked forward to getting into our room- big mistake! One room wasn't ready but could apparently be cleaned in 10 minutes and when we did get access the door was falling off the hinges. The other room was truly horrific. The bathroom was filthy, cracks everywhere & the 'shower' was rubber tubes stuck on to the taps. Everything was so grim we didn't want to look too closely for fear of what we might find. Broken wardrobes, mismatched beds & inexplicable stains helped add to the terrible experience. Breakfast was not as bad as it could have been & there were a couple of friendly staff members, but that's as good as it gets. Don't be seduced by the low price, this is not value for money & you couldn't pay me to stay here again.
