“Perfect isolation”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

We were here in July 2013 and absolutely loved it. After the 5 hour boat ride from the dock in Sianoukville (and a few failed attempts at finding the right place to meet the boat driver), you find yourself in paradise. It was unlike anything we've ever done before and it was perfect. It is not built up, there is no running water or electricity (but for some solar power) or paved trails. We didn't wear shoes the whole trip and we hid our watches so we could truly immerse ourselves in what Lonely Beach had to offer.

Dani was a laid-back, generous host who took us on a long hike through the jungle, as well as walked us across the island to meet a boat back to the mainland after our four days. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about the beach and the grounds. Even the basic menu was appreciated because it eliminated another decision one normally has to make multiple times a day: what to eat.

We experienced some stunning thunderstorms and crystal clear days in warm sea water. I cannot overstate how intimate and peaceful the setting is. Dani has created a true escape to paradise which I highly recommend.

Room Tip: All face the ocean, all are perfect.

I loved this place from the moment we crash landed the dinghy to shore, sending my backpack into the turquoise water. Luckily Dani, the French owner, had swum out to the main boat a few minutes earlier, a special bag strapped to his tanned body. "Put your valuables in here in cases we capsize, the sea is choppy today". We capsized and my iPad et al were fine - this was an amusing start to a great three days alone on a paradise beach.

Dani is a Travelling Legend - an old-style hippy backpacker who's been on the road for 35 years. He has a passion for Asia and speaks fluent Cambodian. He did everything to make my stay special.

What a beach - 1km of soft sand and palm-fringed. The jungle provides a scenic backdrop. The water is warm and safe for swimming. Fluorescent plankton come out at night, along with a million stars. A few dogs keep one company on the beach. Otherwise I was alone.

The bungalows are simple but great - large bed, terrace, hammock, separate 'jungle shower' room. The place is eco-friendly throughout. No electricity, no generator - the power comes from solar panels. Don't expect wi-fi or any mod-cons. The food is yummy too - huge Khmer dishes of whatever is available (all supplies come in daily from the mainland).

I recommend the 4km hike to the nearest village - an atmospheric fishing community where the folk are happy to pose for the camera.

Downsides? Half of the beach has not been cleared recently of plastic bottles and other detritus that floats in from Thailand. Food prices are probably 50% higher than on the mainland, but fair enough. Come here if you want complete peace and quiet. These places are few and far between.

Room Tip: There is a dorm for those on a budget.

Lonely beach is a unique and magical place. You are right on the edge of the jungle and you have a beautiful beach just for (almost) yourself. Dani is the nicest guy that will help you with everything and you can notice all the love and work he has put in the place (and the garden :))

The bungalows are basic but good quality and they have great balconies with sea view and hammocks.

During the day you can relax, go snorkeling, or just soak in the beautiful surroundings. At night you have just the sounds of the jungle and the stars. Don't forget to swim in the dark for the lightning plankton!

All in all: there are not many places like this left and staying in lonely beach for a few days is an experience you will never forget!

Friendly and professional staff, nice accommodation, nice view, perfect beach, paradisaic atmosphere (Too many qualities to list). You haven't seen Kho Rong if you haven't been to this place, this is definitely worth the price and travel!

The beach here is absolutely beautiful, so is the surrounding landscape, magnificent sunsets, fresh air and awesome bird sounds. It takes 4hrs by boat to get to the island, a long boat trip, slow boat. The accommodation is very basic with Kmer bathroom, but normal toilet. The bungalows are clean, bed clean and comfortable. The food is basic, some tasty, and well priced. Make sure you take lots of insect repellent, and a torch at night to walk around from the restaurant to your cabin. We had to ask for clean towels each day, so make sure you ask for those. An awesome place, but lacks infrastructure.

Lonely Beach has its own boat transfer service so arrange this with them beforehand. The boat ride is 3hrs long but allows you to enjoy the views of the sea, busy coast and provides a good opportunity for pre-beach sunbathing. Dani, the resort manager, is kind, warm and cheerful. He's also fluent in many languages, including German, French, English and Cambodian. The resort itself is basic, it allows you to experience island life as it should be. No frills, no modern amenities like air conditioning or hot showers but you can't expect more if you're looking for a pristine, lonely beach, true to its name. The waters are crystal clear, the sand powdery to the touch and the photos you take away are postcard perfect. The food is also surprisingly better than most high rated restaurants, which made the whole experience even better. The sunsets are beautiful, the starry nights and fluorescent plankton in the water at night, simply magical. The nights spent in the bungalows let you be as close to nature as possible, with spiders, geckos and birds all around. Highly recommended resort for those looking for a romantic, idyllic and quiet getaway.

As long as you understand how Basic this place is going to be, and are ok with that, then you must visit! We stayed in the dorm for 3 nights in April 2014.

The beach and it's surroundings can only be described as paradise. The most amazing sunset Iv seen in 2 months travelling and nature right on the doorstep. The owner was a lovely guy who was happy to chat to us :)

Would have been even better if there was an offer of a boat trip or guided walk to break up the days of sitting on the beach (as pleasant as that was!)

The food on the whole was really nice and reasonably (ish) priced.

Would recommend :-)
